We made paper bag pumpkins with happy and sad faces. W' e sang scarey songs. We know spooks and witch- es are just pretend people , though. For Show and Tell time this week , Viana Petricei brought in a Jamaican doll. Linda Murp h y had a nice selection of play foods good enough to eat. Cathy Cutro brought in a musical box radio and many pictures from her trip with her family to the North Pole. Billy Hoase brought in a record of "The Ten Little Indians . " On our science table there are some big seed pods belong ing to day lilies and milk weed. Wo heard about how the seed pods take care of the baby so eds until they are readv to be dr ipped in the earth. We ai'e noticing the ben itiful colors on the trees around the school and are making a collection of leaves to paste on a picture. Another two weeks have gone by in Miss Brook' s grade two. The robm is filled with interesting charts , long and short vowel sounds , names and abbreviations of days of the week , a chart of the seasons of the year , with the months involved ; different kinds of sentences and many contracted words we see in our reading. In Social Studies we are studying Indians of the early days of our country. The bulletin board is aglow with pictures of them. Dom- inick Martucci brought some f ; ne ones that are up on the board with Miss Brooks ' pictures. On the nature walk we found pine cones , colored leaves and pine branches. These decorate the walls. Another exhibit shows the differ- ence between a town and a farm. We are comparing those with the way Indians lived in the days of the first colonies. We had a spelling review test of all the words we have studied so far , and soon we are going to write some sentences made from these words at Miss Brooks ' dic- tation. We are ready for the first big test in the arithmetic book. We just had lots of work on values of money. So far we have studied about pennies , nickels and dimes. The reading groups have had vo- cabulary tests and comprehension pages to do. We are half through our p honetics book , and are lear- ning how sounds feel by holding fingers to our throats as we say the sounds. It helps a great deal. Monitors the past two weeks were Debra Tarsitano , Robert Pre- vete , Raymond Okiec, Vincent La Monica , Kathleen Holdy, Roy Fults , Anna Markey, Theresa Mc Clean , Frances Petrillo , Gary Pal- ma and Charles Stark. In Special Events we had a birthday for Frances Petrillo , Ray- mond Okiec and Steven Kapner. Charles Stark' s cat had 12 kitten. -.. The big Columbus Day Parade in New York City was attended by Raymond Okiec and Frances Pe- trillo , who also went to the Pea- body Museum i n Connecticut where she saw diinosaurs (who^ and skeleton), Indians , animals in their natural habitats and rep- tiles. Cristy Violand showed an envelope purse she made from two paper plates and string. Debra Tavsitano brought records which we are enjoying. Noreen Carroll , Rosemary Camalleri, Gerri Glea- son and Charles Stark brought books for class reading. Gerri also brough t records. Edward Turbush came to our class from Yaphank , and Ralph Lucano went to California. Ed- ward is most welcome , and Ralph is missed a great deal. Roy Hult' s famil y had two bad times. First , someone removed T.V. t ubes and caused a near explosion, then the water and heat didn 't work , so they had to stay awhile ii- Blue Point. Also , Joseph Pa- tera ' s baby brother is home now and weighs about seven pounds. Joseph is happy to have him home. Finally, our pictures came , and they are very good. ¦ M. * Mr. O'Connor ' s grade five this week learned about cotton and to- bacco crops in the colony of Jamestown in Social Studies. We read that these two p lants are " money crops. " Thomas Johnsen found out that a " money crop " is a plant that is sold to another country for the money that it brings in. Jimmv Richards said that three very important things happened to the Colony of Jamestown in 1619. Slaves were brought in to pick to- bacco; women came to the colony from England, and a group of laws were made up for the colony b y elected representatives called the House of Burgesses. Next week we will see how the colony of Jamestown grew into a large and prosperous community. NATHANIEL WOODHULL

Mrs. Seibert's kindergarten classis ready for Halloween. We madepaper bag pumpkins with happyand sad faces. W'e sang scareysongs. We know spooks and witch-es are just pretend people , though.

For Show and Tell time thisweek, Viana Petricei brought in aJamaican doll. Linda Murp hy hada nice selection of play foods goodenough to eat. Cathy Cutrobrought in a musical box radioand many pictures from her tripwith her family to the North Pole.Billy Hoase brought in a recordof "The Ten Little Indian s ."

On our science table there aresome big seed pods belong ing today lilies and milk weed. Wo heardabout how the seed pods take careof the baby soeds until they arereadv to be dr ipped in the earth.

We ai'e noticing the ben itifulcolors on the trees around theschool and are making a collectionof leaves to paste on a picture.

Another two weeks have goneby in Miss Brook's grade two. Therobm is filled with interestingcharts , long and short vowelsounds, names and abbreviationsof days of the week , a chart ofthe seasons of the year , with themonths involved ; different kinds ofsentences and many contractedwords we see in our reading. InSocial Studies we are studyingIndians of the early days of ourcountry. The bulletin board isaglow with pictures of them. Dom-inick Martucci brought some f ;neones that are up on the board withMiss Brooks' pictures.

On the nature walk we foundpine cones , colored leaves and pinebranches. These decorate the walls.Another exhibit shows the differ-ence between a town and a farm.We are comparing those with theway Indians lived in the days ofthe first colonies.

We had a spelling review testof all the words we have studiedso far , and soon we are going towrite some sentences made fromthese words at Miss Brooks ' dic-tation. We are ready for the firstbig test in the arithmetic book. Wejust had lots of work on values ofmoney. So far we have studiedabout pennies, nickels and dimes.

The reading groups have had vo-cabulary tests and comprehensionpages to do. We are half throughour phonetics book , and are lear-ning how sounds feel by holdingfingers to our throats as we saythe sounds. It helps a great deal.

Monitors the past two weekswere Debra Tarsitano , Robert Pre-vete, Raymond Okiec, Vincent LaMonica , Kathleen Holdy, RoyFults, Anna Markey, Theresa McClean , Frances Petrillo , Gary Pal-ma and Charles Stark.

In Special Events we had abirthday for Frances Petrillo , Ray-mond Okiec and Steven Kapner.Charles Stark's cat had 12 kitten.-..The big Columbus Day Parade inNew York City was attended byRaymond Okiec and Frances Pe-trillo , who also went to the Pea-body Museum i n Connecticutwhere she saw diinosaurs (who^and skeleton), Indians , animals intheir natural habitats and rep-tiles. Cristy Violand showed anenvelope purse she made from twopaper plates and string. DebraTavsitano brought records whichwe are enjoying. Noreen Carroll ,Rosemary Camalleri, Gerri Glea-son and Charles Stark broughtbooks for class reading. Gerri alsobrought records.

Edward Turbush came to ourclass from Yaphank , and RalphLucano went to California. Ed-ward is most welcome, and Ralphis missed a great deal.

Roy Hult's family had two badtimes. First , someone removed T.V.t ubes and caused a near explosion, then the water and heat didn 'twork, so they had to stay awhileii- Blue Point. Also , Joseph Pa-tera 's baby brother is home nowand weighs about seven pounds.Joseph is happy to have him home. Finally, our pictures came, andthey are very good.

Mr. O'Connor's grade five thisweek learned about cotton and to-bacco crops in the colony ofJamestown in Social Studies. Weread that these two plants are"money crops." Thomas Johnsenfound out that a "money crop " isa plant that is sold to anothercountry for the money that itbrings in.

Jimmv Richards said that threevery important things happened tothe Colony of Jamestown in 1619.Slaves were brought in to pick to-bacco; women came to the colonyfrom England, and a group oflaws were made up for the colonyby elected representatives calledthe House of Burgesses.

Next week we will see how thecolony of Jamestown grew into alarge and prosperous community.
