4MASTERS & MBA FAIRS CATALOGUE | Cross-media campaign strategy

EFFECTIVE MARKETING WITH OUR CROSS-MEDIA CAMPAIGN STRATEGYOur Masters Fairs and MBA Lounges are part of a cross-media information campaign for the promotion of Masters and MBA programmes. The campaign’s media mix is complemented by the Masters portal www.master-and-more.de - the most popular portal for Masters programmes in Germany – and the print publication MASTER AND MORE Guide (Germany, Austria/Switzerland and Great Britain). The study portals www.master-and-more.ch, www.master-and-more.at, www.masters-and-more.co.uk as well as the portal www.mba-lounge.de for MBA, EMBA and executive education Masters further enhance the online offer. With its cross-media approach the MASTER AND MORE campaign and MBA Lounge campaign are particularly effective for institutions of higher education as they offer several points of contact with potential students.

REVIEW 2011 – VERY SUCCESSFUL, HIGHLY SATISFIEDIn the past year, we held MASTER AND MORE Fairs in the student cities Münster, Stuttgart and Berlin. They proved very successful for participating institutions because:

100% of the visitors were interested in a Masters programme. Fair visitors were very well prepared and had many specifi c questions for exhibitors. Most of the visitors had registered online in advance for consultation sessions and presentations. Exhibitors were optimally supported by the fair organisers.

CROSS-MEDIA CAMPAIGN STRATEGY

“I am a regular exhibitor at fairs and this fair is certainly unique among education fairs. I can’t fi nd anything to critique!”EBERHARD VON MASSOW, MARTIN LUTHER UNIVERSITY HALLE-WITTENBERG

“Very high levels of activity, many interested students, plenty of high-quality conversations. A successful fair!”JESSICA WERNER, INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

WHY RECRUIT STUDENTS FROM GERMANY?

• Germany is one of the largest student markets in Europe with 2,377,000 students.

• 4.8% of all German students are studying abroad (out-going); the most popular countries for studying abroad among Germans are Austria, The Netherlands, Great Bri-tain, Switzerland and the USA.

• 70-80% of all Bachelor students would like to continue with a Masters programme after their fi rst degree.

• Many Bachelor students in Germany will not be able to start a Masters programme due to a drastic shortage of university places.

• There is still only a limited number of Masters programmes available in English lan-guage.

• Many high-school graduates in Germany will not be able to study the desired sub-ject due to restrictions in Bachelor programme admissions.

• German students receive a student loan for studies abroad.• 70% of MASTER AND MORE Fair visitors in 2011 indicated that they consider going

abroad to obtain a Masters degree.

FACTS AND FIGURES ON MARKETING IN GERMANY AND THE UNITED KINGDOM

WHY RECRUIT STUDENTS FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM?

• The UK also has one of the largest student populations in Europe with 2,501,295 students.

• Tuition fees for Bachelor and Masters programmes have drastically risen from just over £3,000 to up to £9,000 per year. Many students are unable or unwil-ling to afford such increased prices and leave to go abroad to study.

• Recent research shows a huge increase in student mobility - 72% of university applicants in the UK consi-der studying abroad, but the majority still feels ill-infor-med about the possibilities.

• UK students easily integrate into programmes taught in English language.• Unemployment for Bachelor graduates in the UK is presently very high. Studying

abroad is widely seen as benefi cial to job perspectives. • The top fi ve study destinations for UK students going abroad are the USA, France,

Ireland, Germany, and Australia.

WHY RECRUIT STUDENTS FROM AUSTRIA?

• Total number of students in Austria: 350,247• With 180,000 students Vienna is the largest

student city in the German speaking region. Focus your marketing activities on Vienna alone and you will reach more than 50% of all students in this country.

• In Austria there are only a limited number of English language Masters program-mes available.

• The annual per capita income is high with $49,000 per annum. • Students in Austria have a high level of English language skills. This makes it parti-

cularly interesting to recruit students for English language Masters programmes. • The most popular destinations for studying abroad among Austrian students are

Germany, United Kingdom, USA, Switzerland, and France.

FACTS AND FIGURES ON MARKETING IN AUSTRIA AND SWITZERLAND

6

WHY RECRUIT STUDENTS FROM SWITZERLAND?

• Total number of students in Switzerland 213,855• 4.7% of all Swiss students are studying abroad (outgoing).

The most popular destination countries for Swiss students are the United Kingdom, Germany, France, USA, and Italy.

• 21% of Swiss students are international students. This international target market has a strong interest in Masters programmes at universities outside of Switzerland.

• The annual per capita income is very high with over $80,000. This means that pro-grammes at higher fee levels are generally feasible for this target audience.

• Switzerland is a relatively small country, which means that the diversity of study programmes offered is limited. Promoting your more unusual or specialised pro-grammes is thus particularly interesting to this audience.

• Swiss students typically have a high level of English language skills. This makes it particularly interesting to recruit students for English language Masters programmes.
