disconnectingand connecting instruc-tionsAll Masterpact circuit breakers have fourdrawout positions and can be operated inthese four positions. The circuit breaker iscaptive in all positions except "withdrawn".To connect or disconnect the Masterpactcircuit breaker, first insert the of rackingcrank.Insertion of the racking crank can beprevented by the following stationaryassembly accessories:■ padlock■ key-lock■ racking interlock

note : Disconnecting and connectinginstructions are summarized on a stickerprovided with the installation instructions .The sticker must be affixed to the door of the

CONNECTED position

TEST position

DISCONNECTED position

WITHDRAWN position

cubicle .■ In the CONNECTEDposition, the primary and secondarydisconnecting terminals are engaged, andthe circuit breaker is ready for service.

■ In the TEST position, the primaryterminals are disengaged; however, controlcontacts are connected to permit operationof the circuit breaker. The TEST position isused for testing circuit breaker operation andcontrol system functions as provided. In thisposition, the circuit breaker is not suitable forinternal inspection or any maintenancefunction.

■ In the DISCONNECTED position, theprimary and secondary disconnect terminalsare disengaged and separated by a safedistance from the corresponding stationaryterminals

■ In the WITHDRAWN position, bothprimary and secondary contacts aredisconneted. The circuit breaker may beremoved for complete accessibility.note: a racking crank maintened inserted orbreaker not completely disconnectedprevents the extraction of the right rail.

notes :■ a closed circuit breaker is automaticallyopened prior to being connected ordisconnected during a racking in or rackingout operation.■ the circuit breaker may be operated in allfour positions.

installating the breaker inits stationary assembly

note : a racking handle remaining insertedin its racking slot or a breaker not fullydisconnected prevents the extraction of theright rail

1 pull the two extension rails by theirhandles

2 install the breaker on the two extensionrails making sure that the four breakersupports located on the two sides of thecircuit breaker are correctly engaged in theslots. See page 6 for other means ofhandling

3 to move the breaker from the WITH-DRAWN position to the DISCONNECTEDposition, push the breaker into the stationaryassembly until it stops. As a safety feature, the racking crank cannotbe engaged if the breaker is not in theDISCONNECTED position.caution : do not press on the control unitwhile pushing the breaker in.

1 engage racking crank into its racking slotnote : the operation is possible only if :❑ breaker is in DISCONNECTED position❑ drawout mechanism padlocks have beenremoved❑ Kirk key lock has been unlocked❑ compartment door is closed

note : in case of racking interlock, press the"compartment door closed" sensor located atthe front of the drawout mechanism tosimulate a closed door

2 turn the racking crank clockwise until theCONNECTED position is reached on theposition indicatorwarning : as the fully connected position isneared, more force will be necessary to turnthe crank. Continue cranking until two "click"sounds are heard (locking the breaker in theconnected position)

3 remove the racking crank and put it backin its storage hole

charging instructionsAll basic breaker and drawout operationscan be performed from the front of thebreaker.Suitable electrical and mechanical interlocksare provided to prevent incorrect operationof the breaker. Manually operated breakershave multiple charge-close provisions whichallow the following possible operatingsequence : charge-close-recharge-open-close-open.To manually charge an electrically ormanually operated breaker, push or pulldown on the charging handle. The handle isshaped to make manual charging easy, when the breaker is located in either a low orhigh position within a switchboard enclosure.Six full strokes can be used. When thespring is fully charged, the yellow "charged"indicator will appear in the stored energywindow on the breaker front cover. When the mechanism is fully charged, thehandle stops and will return to normalposition when released.

Manually Electrically

closing instructionsAll that is required to close the breakerlocally is to push the mechanical "Push-to-close" pushbutton. Pre-charged breakersmay be closed remotely via a spring releasesolenoïd which is standard for electricallyoperated breakers and optional for manuallyoperated breakers. Before attempting to close the breakerlocally, the yellow stored energy windowindicator must read "charged".

note :■ The closing coil (XF) withstands acontinuous voltage, providing antipumpingfunction. If the breaker is not ready to closewhen the closing order is intended, inhibit itand try again as soon as the breaker isready to close■ to inhibit the antipumping function, wire inseries the ready-to-close switch (terminals251 - 252) with the closing coil.

opening instructionsOpening the breaker locally is accomplishedwith the mechanical "Push to open"

pushbutton on the breaker front cover .

Breakers may be opened remotely via eithera shunt trip or an undervoltage trip device

depending upon the application require-

ments.

16

resetting instructionsThe mechanical fault indicator indicatesthat an overcurrent has occured andprevents reclosure of the circuit breaker untilreset.

caution : in case of tripping due to overcur-rent or ground fault, the fault must becleared before any attempt of resetting

Breaker can be closed only if :■ it is opened■ charged■ pop-out type fault indicator is correclyreset■ no opening order is intended
