Thank you for your interest in LCO’s Master’s Certificate in Osteopathy (MCO). This study is intended for active body work professionals interested in expanding their practice into the field of manual osteopathy. What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a natural and drug free approach to health. It is a recognized system of diagnosis and treatment that looks at the structure and function of the body. It is based on the diagnosis and treatment of structural disturbances (somatic lesion) which are often caused by occupation, lifestyle, diet, aging, physical and mental stresses and trauma, such as with sport injuries. Osteopathic medicine as a profession came into being in the mid-19th century through the revelatory teachings of Andrew Taylor Still. Having lost four of his children to disease and deeply disappointed with the health care model of his time, Dr. Still developed a set of basic principles which to this day are considered the fundamental tenets of osteopathy:

An osteopathic manual therapist will focus on the joints, muscles, and spine. Osteopathic manual therapy means that both assessment of the somatic dysfunction and treatment are carried out with the hands.

Osteopathic manual therapy is effective in optimizing the function of every body system, from muscles to the circulatory, nervous, lymphatic, respiratory and immune systems. It is regarded as one of the most effective drug-free therapies for headaches, back pain and conditions of the musculoskeletal system.

Master’s Certificate in Osteopathy (MCO) program outcome

Course Overview:

Applied Anatomy & Physiology provides students with the information they will build upon in any further health care studies and clinical experience. Anatomy is the study of structures associated with the human body. Physiology is the study of function of each of these structures. This course covers terminology, structure, function, and interdependence of the human body systems. Included are a study of cells, tissues, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, lymphatic, cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive systems. Systems of the body are reviewed with an emphasis on how they work separately and together when organ and organs systems function normally. Particular emphasis is placed on the advanced anatomy of the Musculoskeletal System, including the spine and joints.
