DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
On behalf of the MBiotech program at the University of Toronto, I would like to extend my thanks to you for considering our students for a co-op opportunity with your organization.
Since the inception of the program in 2001, it has been our goal to be Canada’s foremost biotechnology graduate program and an international partner in the global health sciences industry. Our students, who come from around the world, bring to our program a strong background in biological sciences coupled with a strong work ethic, leadership skills, and an ability to work effectively in a team environment. We have a superb teaching faculty in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Management, all of whom aim to contribute to a truly interdisciplinary curriculum aimed at preparing graduates for a high-level internship and for employment beyond.
What can MBiotech do for you? Our founding director, Dr. Paul Horgen, used to remind students and employers that “An MBiotech student can do anything”. While our focus involves the health sciences industry, the list of employers and former positions, including in clinical trials, consulting, medical affairs, project management, marketing and quality control, is a testament to the depth of student talent and commitment.
Please review this Student Profile Directory and visit our website (www.mbiotech.ca) for more details on our program. And if there is anything we can do to help, do not hesitate to contact us.

CO-OP RECRUITMENT & SCHEDULING
As part of our unique program, students take up to three consecutive work-terms with top employers across Ontario and beyond. All internships are arranged through our Placement and Employer Relations Coordinator, where each placement is full time and a minimum of 4 months in duration. As such, co-ops can be extended/renewed up to a maximum of 12 months. Placement time is flexible and is coordinated throughout the calendar year.

Cooperative Education Tax Credit
The Co-operative Education Tax Credit (CETC) is a refundable tax credit. The CETC is available to employers who hire students enrolled in a co-operative education program at an Ontario university or college. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers the program on behalf of Ontario through the federal income tax system.
The CETC is based on salaries and wages paid to a student in a co-operative education work placement. The maximum credit for each work placement is $3,000. Most work placements are for a minimum employment period of 10 weeks up to a maximum of four months.
For full details, please visit the Ontario Ministry of Finance Website at: www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/credit/cetc.
