To be officially recognized as a credentialed teacher in the state of California, you will need to satisfy a series of requirements assessing and documenting your qualifications. These credential requirements will be completed as you concurrently complete coursework for your Master’s degree. In addition to submitting the following documents to the USC Rossier staff throughout the year, keep and file copies and receipts for your own academic and professional records. During your final semester in the MAT-TESOL program, you will compile and submit a formal credential recommendation request and accompanying packet of documentation verifying your qualifications to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Basic Skills Requirement Satisfy the requirement in one of the following ways:Pass CBEST examPass CSET: multiple subject plus writing skills examPass CSU early assessment program or CSU placement examsAchieve qualifying scores on your ACT (English score of 22+ or Mathematics score of 23+) Achieve qualifying scores on your SAT (English score of 500+ or Mathematics score of 550+) Achieve qualifying score of 3+ on AP English and 3+ on either AP Calculus or AP StatisticsPass an out-of-state basic skills equivalent examination

MAT-TESOL Credentialing continued

Tuberculosis Screening Obtain a signed or official document from your health provider stating you are free from communicable TB. The USC Engemann Student Health Center offers walk-in TB screening Monday through Wednesday.

How to submit:Upload a PDF copy of your negative TB test result to your USC Rossier personal portal.If you receive medical services outside of the USC network, you must also file your TB results with the Engemann SHC Office of Immunization Compliance at [email protected].

Subject Matter Requirement Pass all subtests of the CSET exam in your chosen subject area.

Satisfy the requirement in one of the following ways:

Certificate of Clearance Your Certificate of Clearance consists of a background check and professional fitness clearance. This two-step process requires you to: Get fingerprints done at a Live Scan facility Complete the online recommendation for the Certificate of Clearance, which includes a physical fitness questionnaire Learn more: https://www.ctc.ca.gov/docs/default-source/leaflets/41-ls.pdf?sfvrsn=0Note: A Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) is required to complete the Certificate of Clearance. International students are responsible to secure employment in order to apply for a SSN or ITIN, if they do not already possess one.

How to submit:Apply for a Certificate of Clearance directly with the CTC at: https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/submit-onlineOnce you receive your Certificate of Clearance by email, upload a PDF copy to your USC Rossier personal portal.

DUE PRIOR TO THE END OF YOUR FINAL SEMESTER

The following items are required prior to the end of your final semester in the MAT-TESOL program in order for USC to formally recommend you for a preliminary teaching credential after all mandatory documents are submitted and final grades are posted. Your credential recommendation request will be submitted by your credential analyst to the CTC after final grades are posted. You will receive notice of your credential approval directly from the CTC via email. For support, please contact the USC Rossier Credentialing team at [email protected].

Please note: All items must be compiled into a single digital or hard copy credential recommendation packet and submitted to your credential analyst during the credential recommendation process in your final semester. Individual item submissions will not be accepted.

United States Constitution Requirement

How to submit:If taking the exam, send a PDF copy of your passing exam score to your Credential Analyst. If using academic coursework to satisfy requirement, ensure you have official transcripts on file from your CSU or the university where you took a U.S. constitution course. Submit the “U.S. Constitution” form to your credential analyst for approval.

EdTPA: Teacher Performance Assessment and Portfolio

How to submit:Select USC as your score report recipient at the time of your exam. Submit EdTPA via Edthena.

Course must cover infant, child and adult CPR. AED is not required.

How to submit:Scan your fieldwork logs from both semesters of student teaching.Submit a PDF copy to your credential analyst as part of your credential recommendation packet.

Credential Recommendation Request Form

Complete and submit this form AFTER all other items have been completed and compiled into a single file. This form will initiate the credential recommendation process and indicates to your credential analyst that all documentation and deliverables are ready to verify with the CTC. How to submit:Submit as cover sheet of your credential recommendation request packet. Packets must be compiled as a digital file and emailed to a secure inbox ([email protected]) or compiled as a hard copy file and delivered to your credential analyst’s office.
