WHAT WOULD HELP STUDENTS TO PREPARE• Mentorship and chat sessions• One platform for all the information with one username and password• Life covering information, like the weather and how to prepare yourself for it.
HOW TO IMPROVE HOUSING
HOW TO IMPROVE THE INTRODUCTION PROGRAMME• Practical information about the campus: from coffee machines to bike parking• Selection and training of the coaches• (online) Booklet of the start-up projects & highlights of the IP
“I feel that I am on the right place: there are endless opportunities here, just
need to grab them.”
“Classes are a bit overwhelming at first”
“I first chose what I liked to study, then looked at ranking websites and chose the universities and then searched for
programme information on the website”
“I miss information about the quarter system and how to pick courses, the
more practical things.”
“The student blog at the faculty website was a nice way to taste the
programme and the faculty”
‘After my meeting with the programme coordinator and students in the programme
I decided to go for it. happy about the organisation and how international it was’
O&S aboutadmissions/application:
quickly andwell answered
Well appreciated:programme ontacts for
specific questions
ADMISSION
Most students gettheir admissionwithin 2 months
For some students,admission took longer
“Sent my application in December and got my admission at the
end of April”(Marine Technology)
“Give the access to Brightspace before,
or develop a centralised platform for everything, for
Dutch and international students, where we can also
contact and socialise with each-other before arrival and link it to the alumni
portal as well.”
• The online application process is very clear.• Osiris is great and notifies by email when something is wrong.• Studylink is unclear, but not needed frequently.
“Non-EU students search for good universities with low tuition fees or scholarships. If another
university has the same ranking but a lower tuition fee, we go there.”

Students who registered in time didn’t have any problems.
Students who didn’t register, or too late, had a lot of problems.
“At my arrival the kitchen was dirty
and the sink didn’t function and it
took 3 weeks to repair it.”
“I feel too old to live in a student
house so it took a long time and lots of effort to find a
temporary home.”
“Because of the VPN access I
could watch the housing youtube- videos in China. That was great!’”
Fine! It is allorganised
“I knew that everything would be fine with my visa, only because others told me so. Otherwise I would have had a lot of stress.’’
“In China we cannot pay a large amount at once so it takes time to pay the fee.”
“The moment I decided to do a master, my father started a
financial planning’”
Payment works well, though there are some exceptions
Deadline for housing payment doesn’t reflect reality
Long distance mentors (IDE,
ISA, Delft Global)
Delftulipcan be
overwhelming
Good weeklysessions
The video was helpful
“We had a whatsapp group with the Indian
students. All the information was
transmitted, even chatsessions on
Delftulip. They also organised sessions
on Youtube”
“The distance faculty mentor (IDE)
helped me to prepare everything and gave a lot of information, even
about what mentality to bring.”
“I received e-mails but didn’t know what was
important and what not’’
KEEP IT DOALBLE• Make it an obligation, also for Dutch students • Keep it do-able after the IP and present essential information
HOW TO IMPROVE ARRIVAL
Pick-upservice/
guidance
The IP bag is needed
upon arrival
5 day bike service withSwapfiets
POSITIVE NEGATIVE• To meet students and teachers of your own faculty• To receive practical information to start the first quarter • Faculty rally (CEG) to get to know the faculty
• The many games (IDE) were too exhausting after the IP• Sometimes Dutch students were not present
“Make sure that if you refer to cultural
differences that you compare all kinds of
cultures; don’t offend just one or two.”
“The Dutch newcomers didn’t get an introduction, while they were new as
well.”
Easy and clear, just follow the signs
No trains due to constructionsNo pick-up service
“ISA helped dus at Schiphol and had already
picked up our keys”
“It was unclear if there would be a pick-up or not.”
IP program: campus rally, my ip-app, start-up project, repetition of activities, welcome package, ip teams, group project, registration (bank, insurance, municipality), collection of residence permit and campus card
coaches: most were really good, some were not good at all. A successful IP depends a lot on the coach.
“Really fun and packed with activities!”
