Mark Rebuck, Coordinator of Religious Education For the past year, our Parish Transformation efforts have focused on the “weekend experience”, i.e. making the most of the time when most of our members are present. We have worked hard to ensure that every person who comes to Mass at Saint Joseph receives a warm greeting and is given the information they need to participate fully in the liturgy. We have also taken steps to continually enhance our homilies, including periodically offering thematic homily- series. This was most notable last Lent, when we preached a well-received series on Reconciliation. Beginning this month, we would like to hear from you, our Mass attendees, regarding our homilies. We’d like to know how effective they are in explaining the Word and helping you draw connections to your daily lives that bring you closer to the Lord. On the second weekend of each month ushers will be handing out Homily Feedback Forms to three random attendees at each of the Masses. If you are given a form, we encourage you to share your candid, constructive feedback that we can use in creating future homilies. Thank you in advance for your support!

Reading Dogs are back to visit with our second graders! Last week was the introductory session during which the students learned about the program and about safety around dogs (how to meet/greet a dog, what to do if a strange dog approaches, and what to do if they see a lost dog). The students look forward to a year of reading to the dogs!

Fourth graders performed another STEM experiment in which they determined if M&Ms and Skittles float. Students made hypotheses and observations, drew conclusions, and offered explanations. They had a fun time learning with candy!

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK We would like to thank:

M. C. Walker Realty

for sponsoring an advertisement in our parish bulletin. Please patronize the businesses that underwrite all of the

publishing expenses of our weekly bulletin.

CAREGIVERS - Day of Prayer and Care “We commend all those engaged in every aspect of caring for the disabled, the chronically ill, and the dying...In your reverence for the bodies and spirits of your brothers and sisters, you are continuing the healing ministry of Jesus.” Living and Dying according the Voice of Faith: A Pastoral Letter to the Catholics of the State of Michigan (1997).

Most of us know of someone who is involved in providing direct care or responsible for the care of a family member, a neighbor, or friend. That someone may be you. Caregivers often describe their service as simply “doing what needs to be done.” However, the hours spent on care can leave little time for relaxation, spiritual renewal or connecting with others. Volunteers in the Cumberland/Perry Deanery parishes are planning the 6th Annual Caregivers’ Day of Prayer and Care to honor these very special men and women Saturday, October 26 at Trinity High School, Camp Hill. Please share this announcement with caregivers you know. There is no cost for the day, but registration is required. Contact Madeline Beitzel by email: [email protected] or 717-307-9266 for more information.

The Tribunal of the Diocese of Harrisburg will be giving presentations within the diocese concerning marriage, divorce and annulment according to Church teaching. These presentations will be helpful for divorced Catholics, those divorced who wish to marry Catholics, those parish leaders involved in the RCIA process and any others who may have a vested interest because of family or friends.

Sept. 16 - Saint Joseph, Hanover, 7:00 PM Sept. 30 - Diocesan Conference Center, Harrisburg, 7:00 PM Nov. 18 - Diocesan Conference Center, Harrisburg, 7:00 PM

No prior registration is required. For further information, please call 717-657-4804, ext. 304, or email: [email protected]

Come see how your faith blossoms when you’ve got some amazing, insightful, supportive, and fun women as companions on the journey! On , in Room 306 at the Parish Life & Education Center, women gather to listen to an episode of the

Baby Bottles Are Back! The weekend of October 5/6, begins our annual Baby Bottle Campaign to support the women and families served by Morning Star Pregnancy Services. Pick up a baby bottle as you leave church that week. Then fill them up with change, bills, checks or all three! Return the filled bottles by the end of October to the bin in the church narthex. Join fellow parishioners in supporting the pro-life mission of Morning Star in our area. To learn more about Morning Star and how you might help, visit www.supportmorningstar.com. Thank you for your generous support of Morning Star!
