Sunday Programs - 9:45 am - 10:45 am
Childcare services are available at the POP Nursery during Sunday morning programs. Resurrection and the Afterlife in the New Testament St. Monica Room Central to our Christian faith is a belief in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Dr. Candida Moss, noted Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame, helps us understand the significance of that belief. On December 13, we will discuss Gospels 1: The Resurrection of Jesus. Facilitated by Sonya Phillips and Mike Brown.
Scripture in “Action” St. Elizabeth Room
Ever think about getting more out of church? Tired of rushing to run errands between masses? Take time for yourself - spiritually and physically! We discuss the Sunday readings including historical context, how they relate to us in present day, and seek ways to apply God’s message to our daily lives. No classes on December 20 & 27. Led by Tom & Elsbeth Germanson.
Religious Education Jesus lived a life on this earth. He ate, he drank, and he walked down the street. Do you know him as a person? Or is he just a historical figure to you? It is crucial that we move beyond the façade of the story of Jesus Christ. We must delve deep into his life and teachings. We must allow his Spirit to flood the thoughts, words, and actions of our daily lives. In order to do all this it is necessary that we come to know the Gospels intimately. Saint Jerome once wrote, “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.” The great tragedy in the modern environment is that people know more about their favorite music group or sports players than they do about Jesus Christ. Get to know Jesus. Read the Gospels. Never let a day pass without pondering a few of the precious words in those four books. Don’t just race through them. Choose a small section and read it slowly. Reflect on the meaning. Then reread it and ponder those words. Allow the words to penetrate the hardness of your heart. Allow the words of the Gospels to erode your personal prejudices, to wash away your narrow-mindedness, to banish your judgmental tendencies. You don’t have to read five chapters a day-just a small passage. But allow the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, Alive and present in the Gospels, to sink their roots deep into your life. (Rediscover Catholicism, Matthew Kelly)

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call Did you know that there are parishioners who stop by the church on a regular basis for the sole purpose of checking out the closet in the Sacristy where the altar server robes are hung? As many of your know, clothing does not always get hung up nor put in it’s proper place by our children/teens. We end up with a heap of robes and cintures on the floor, some of which needs to be washed. These kind parishioners perform a very helpful, but needed task. Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected]. They may be edited for space consideration.
Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24)
A Wishbone and a Prayer Like most holiday traditions, breaking the wishbone comes with many tales of origin. More than 2,000 years ago, Etruscans believed fowl could predict the future. Ancient Romans split chicken clavicles in search of good fortune. And in 16th Century England the custom was called “merry thought.” Today, breaking the wishbone adds fun to
holiday gatherings, but its magic to grant a wish can’t compare to the power of prayer. Prayer is the most precious gift we can give one another. Families praying together before a Thanksgiving feast- or a simple bowl of soup- multiplies the gift. Our Apostolate of Prayer Ministry is like that. When you ask for prayers, we share your
requests with all our sisters throughout the U.S. We are humbled by your sacred trust in us to hold your intentions in our hearts. In this season of thanksgiving, pray with us for blessings received and ask God’s blessings
for people in need. (Sisters of the Divine Savior, [email protected], sistersofthedivinesavior.org)
