REPENTANCE - THE THRESHOLD OF THE KINGDOM To a disciple who became so discouraged about life the Master told him a story of how, when he was a child, he was led by his mother to a place where he saw an old temple with stained glass windows and said: “Mother, the temple looks so ugly with horrible windows.” His mother didn't say a word, but led him into the temple and asked him to look at the windows again from insides. With sunshine going through, the windows were sparkling with beautiful images. His mother said, “Child. Things will look beautiful if you look at them from insides.” Repentance is the first and important message Jesus announces as he begins to proclaim the kingdom of God. From Greek word: Metanoia, meaning ‘change perspective’ the message of repentance calls for a shift of mentality and ways of thinking, so that the beauty of life can be seen. God does not need you and me to feel guilty of our sins. That’s not the goal of repentance. God needs you and me to shift our posi-tions, the positions of mind, so as to see the beauty of the kingdom of Light which is penetrating into all realities of this dark world (Mt 4:14). The men of Galilee are also called to change the perspective of their profession. From being fishermen they are called to be fishers of men. As we experience darkness in the world that comes from divi-sion, hostility and fear, we are called to follow the spirit of Christ who walks into the realities of human life, and with Him, we also proclaim the Kingdom of God.
