Welcome The Stranger

We have become accustomed to seeing pictures in the media and stories on the news about immigrants from Latin America and refugees from Syria fleeing violence and destruction in their own countries, trying to make their way to a safe place. We have also seen the reactions of people who want to keep them away from their countries, who fail to welcome the stranger and the helpless children. Have we forgotten Jesus’ call to comfort the homeless and the stranger? “They shall bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations . . . to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the L .” In the three readings for this day, we are told that we are to welcome these strangers, to welcome the discipline of the Lord, which leads to peace, and to “strive to enter through the narrow gate” into the glory of God’s own homeland, the reign of God. Safe Environment Training

If you are a volunteer at St. Elizabeth, you need to be current with your requirements, of fingerprinting and of attending a Safe Environment class.

Safe Environment Training Class certification needs to be renewed every three years.

We are offering this training in our facility as follows:

RCIA Program

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is for those interested in learning about the Catholic faith, and for

those wanting to complete the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation.

RCIA is a process through which one gets to know our Lord Jesus Christ, as revealed in Holy Scripture and in Holy Tradition.

From September 22 through Pentecost, the RCIA group meets Sunday mornings from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, in the St.

John the Baptist Room. For more information, or if you would like to register for the program, please contact the Parish Office at (408) 262-8100.

Please be aware of the barricades around the Main Entrance of the Church. For your safety, stay away from this area!

The main entrance doors to our Church will be closed at all times during the construction process.

Only the side doors to our church will be open and accessible for public use. Please be very careful when you walk in during this construction time. There are signs posted for your protection and your

safety!

Our target of completion for this project is October 31. We ask you all for your prayers!

For what is our hope or joy or crown to boast of in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming if

not you yourselves? For you are our glory and joy.

If you win the hearts of your co-workers, they will follow you energetically and devotedly, because they know that you love them sincerely and deeply, and that you would willingly make sacrifices for them. If you do not lead them with love, you will have to employ the worst method--force.

To win over the hearts of co-workers, the leader must dare to allow them to share closely in his or her work, and to have confidence in his or her authority. The leader must be humble with co-workers, yet retain the dignity of his or her position, mix with them informally while retaining their respect, and request obedience from all when decisions have been made.

Do not forget that your co-workers are human. They are individuals and children of God, so only God has absolute authority over them. They should not be thought of as mere possessions or productive machines.

Sunday, August 25, 2019 Dear Parishioners:

May God grant you abundant blessings and may His grace be with you, in your homes and those of family and friends. When we talk about salvation, we all under-

stand that it is to be close to God, in the Kingdom that Jesus announced to us, and which we frequently find in the Gospels which we read and hear at daily Mass and on Sundays. Being a Christian is precisely living with a lot of hope, not as an idea of what the future will be, but with the certainty of getting to where the saints and elect of God are. It is not a place that is reached automatically just by calling ourselves Christians, or by being baptized; it is not about having a certain name but about living our sacraments, which we have received with dignity and which are a source of salvation. We do not receive the sacraments to fulfill a ritual of our religion; we receive them because we have faith and confidence in what the Church brings to us, with the presence of God in each one of them - we are invited to live our daily lives with love and fidelity. It is true that we do many good deeds constantly, but many times we also do the opposite. When we offend, we criticize, we despise others and we get carried away by the call of self-ishness, we put aside the grace which we have received. We give bad testimony of our faith and we disfigure the face of Christ in us, confusing others as to what Christian life means, and hindering the search for the Kingdom that Jesus with so much love calls us to find. No one reaches the Kingdom of heaven through a wide door. That is the door which anyone can see, regardless of the life they lead. The wide door can be seen by the nonbeliever, the one who seeks only the pleasures of life, the one who hates and despises, the one who lives badly and even blasphemes and despises God, perhaps because they have driven themselves away from life’s true love. But it is not that God despises anyone, but that He summons men from all over the earth to live a life of faith and to fall in love with the life He gives us every day, to come and drink from this fountain of grace that calms the anxieties of the heart (Isaiah 66:18-21). Discover the narrow door to walk the path of compassion, of respect and peace, of doing good works and of being an apostolate every day with the family, in living with friends and helping those needing charity and having a close relationship with God with daily prayer (Luke 13:22-30). Chúa Nhật, ngày 25 tháng 08 năm 2019 Các Giáo hữu thân mến, Nguyện xin ân sủng và bình an của Thiên Chúa luôn ở cùng Anh Chị Em, Gia đình, cũng như thân nhân

và bằng hữu của Anh Chị Em. Khi nói về Ơn Cứu Độ, ta đều hiểu rằng đó là sự gần gũi với Chúa, trong Vương quốc Chúa Giêsu đã loan báo cho

chúng ta, và là điều mà ta thường tìm thấy trong sách Thánh mà ta đọc và được nghe trong Thánh lễ mỗi ngày và vào những ngày Chúa Nhật.

Đời sống của người tín hữu chính là cuộc sống của vô vàn hy vọng, không phải chỉ trông chờ vào tương lai, nhưng với sự xác tín rằng mình đang cùng hoà hợp với các bậc Thánh và những người đã được Chúa chọn. Đó không phải là nơi mà đương nhiên ta có thể đạt được khi tự gọi mình là Kitô hữu, hoặc qua Phép Rửa Tội, cũng không phải là khi ta mang tên Thánh hay tên nào khác, nhưng là việc sống với những nhiệm tích mà ta đã lãnh nhận với phẩm chất cao quý, là nguồn ơn cứu độ. Chúng ta nhận lãnh các nhiệm tích không phải chỉ để chu toàn bổn phận của người Công giáo, nhưng lãnh nhận vì đức tin của chúng ta, xác tín vào những gì Giáo Hội mang đến cho ta, với sự hiện diện của Thiên Chúa trong từng nhiệm tích ấy- chúng ta được mời gọi để được sống hàng ngày trong tình yêu và sự trung thành với Chúa.

Nói rằng chúng ta thường xuyên thực hành những điều tốt đẹp quả thực là không sai, nhưng cũng có nhiều lúc chúng ta làm chuyện trái ngược. Khi bị mất lòng, ta chỉ trích, coi thường những người khác; chúng ta bị lòng vị kỷ làm mờ mắt, quên hẳn mất những ân sủng mà ta đã từng được lãnh nhận. Chúng ta đã làm chứng xấu cho đức tin và làm méo mó sự hiện diện của Thiên Chúa trong chúng ta, khiến những người khác ngộ nhận về cuộc sống của người Kitô hữu, đồng thời cản trở việc tìm kiếm Nước Trời mà Chúa Giêsu đã tha thiết mời gọi chúng ta đi tìm với bao tình yêu mến.

Chẳng ai có thể vào được Nước Trời qua cánh cửa thênh thang, cánh cửa mà ai cũng có thể thấy được, bất kể đời sống của họ ra sao. Cánh cửa rộng có thể được nhìn thấy nơi những người không có niềm tin, những người chỉ biết tìm lạc thú trong cuộc sống, những người chỉ biết hận thù và khinh mạn, những người có cuộc sống tệ hại và thậm chí còn báng bổ và xem thường Thiên Chúa, có lẽ vì chính họ đã tự tách mình ra khỏi những yêu thương chân chính của cuộc sống. Tuy vậy Thiên Chúa đã không xem thường ai, nhưng Ngài tập họp mọi người trên toàn cõi địa cầu, để trải nghiệm đời sống đức tin và yêu thương, với cuộc sống Ngài ban cho chúng ta hàng ngày, để đến và uống từ nguồn suối ân sủng có thể làm êm dịu những tâm hồn lo lắng (Isaiah 66:18-21).

Hãy khám phá ra khung cửa hẹp bằng cách bước đi trên đường lối của cảm thông, của tôn trọng và hòa bình, thực thi những việc tốt lành và các công tác Tông đồ mỗi ngày với người thân, bằng hữu, giúp đỡ những ai cần đến sự phục vụ bác ái, đồng thời giữ sự kết hợp mật thiết với Chúa qua lời cầu nguyện hàng ngày (Luca 13: 22-30). Chúa Nhật Thứ 21 Thường Niên - Năm C Phấn Ðấu Qua Cửa Hẹp

Bài đọc 1: Is 66:18-21 Chúa mời gọi mọi người vào Nước Trời, vào cõi sống muôn đời, để hưởng vinh quang của Người. Nhưng ai muốn vào, phải phấn đấu hy sinh. Bài đọc 2: Dt 12:5-7;11-13 Chúa là Cha luôn thương yêu sửa dạy chúng ta là con cái Người. Chúng ta cố gắng làm theo Lời Người, để được nên công chính và sống bình an. Tin Mừng: Lc 13:22-30 Trong Tin Mừng, Chúa Giêsu cho chúng ta biết: muốn vào Nước Trời phải qua “cửa hẹp”là phải hy sinh từ bỏ mình, vác thánh giá hằng ngày đi theo Chúa.

BUÔNG BỎ Sư phụ hỏi học trò: Nếu như con phải đun một ấm nước, lửa cháy một lúc rồi con mới phát hiện ra rằng củi không đủ dùng, con sẽ làm thế nào? Một đệ tử nói rằng, phải nhanh chóng chạy đi tìm thêm củi. Một người khác lại nói sẽ đi mượn tạm củi của người khác. Có người lại đề xuất ý kiến đi mua củi về rồi đun tiếp. Lúc này, sư phụ mới nói: Tại sao không đổ bớt nước trong ấm đi? Các đệ tử lúc này mới ngộ ra ẩn ý của thầy. Ví dụ nhỏ này cho thấy, con người thường không nỡ bỏ đi thứ gì, thay vào đó, chúng ta sẽ tìm cách giữ thật chặt hoặc ôm thêm những gì có thể ôm vào người. Nhưng sự thật là, ở đời luôn có những việc không như ý, rất nhiều khi, chấp nhận buông tay, bỏ thứ này, chúng ta mới có được thứ khác. Điều này đặc biệt đúng với những thứ cảm xúc tiêu cực. Buông bỏ khổ đau, buông bỏ thù hận, buông bỏ tranh cãi, buông bỏ ảo tưởng, buông bỏ dục vọng, buông bỏ sự dối trá khoa trương... Chỉ có dũng cảm “buông” hết thảy những gì chấp nhất, thế giới nội tâm của chúng ta mới trở nên rộng mở, quang đãng, cuộc đời mới vì thế mà trở nên tươi đẹp và đáng sống.

Queridos feligreses:

Que Dios les conceda abundantes bendiciones y que su gracia este con ustedes y en los

hogares de familiares y amigos.

Cuando hablamos de la salvación, todos entendemos que es estar cerca de Dios, en el Reino que nos anunció Jesús y que nosotros frecuentemente encontramos en los Evangelios que leemos y escuchamos en la Misa diaria y en los Domingos. Ser cristiano, es precisamente vivir con mucha esperanza, no como una idea del futuro sino con la certeza de llegar a donde están los santos y elegidos de Dios. Pero no es un lugar al que se llega automáticamente solo por llamarnos Cristianos, o por estar bautizados, no se trata de tener un nombre sino de vivir con dignidad los sacramentos que hemos recibido y que son fuente de salvación. Nosotros no recibimos los sacramentos para cumplir un ritual de nuestra religión, nosotros los recibimos porque tenemos fe, confianza en lo que anuncia la Iglesia y en la presencia de Dios en cada uno de ellos y que nos invitan a vivir con amor y fidelidad las acciones de la vida diaria.

Es cierto que hacemos muchas acciones buenas constantemen-te, pero en muchas ocasiones también hacemos lo contrario, ofendemos, criticamos, despreciamos a los demás y nos dejamos llevar por el llamado del egoísmo. Y es así como hacemos a un lado la gracia que hemos recibido y damos mal testimonio de nuestra fe y desfiguramos el rostro de Cristo en nosotros, confundiendo a los demás de lo que significa la vida cristiana, y dificultando la búsqueda del Reino que Jesús con tanto amor nos llama a encontrar.

No se va al Reino de los cielos a través de una puerta ancha que cualquiera puede ver independientemente de la vida que lleve, la puerta ancha la puede ver el que no cree, el que busca sólo los placeres de la vida, el que odia y desprecia, el que vive mal e incluso quien blasfema y desprecia a Dios, quizá porque viven alejados del verdadero amor. Pero no es que Dios desprecie a nadie, sino que convoca a los hombres de toda la tierra a vivir una vida de fe y a enamorarse de la vida que Èl nos da cada día, solamente, a venir y beber de esta fuente de gracia que calma las ansiedades del corazón. (Isaias 66:18- 21). Descubrir y encontrar la puerta angosta dirigirse por el camino de la compasión, del respeto y la paz, del buen trabajo y apostolado cada día en familia, la convivencia con amigos, atención de la caridad con cualquier persona y el trato cercano diario con Dios en la oración. (Lucas 13:22-30).

Da la Bienvenida al Extranjero

Ya casi nos hemos acostumbrado a ver fotografías en las redes sociales e historias en los periódicos de inmigrantes latinoame-ricanos y refugiados sirios escapando de la violencia y la destrucción de sus propios países, intentando hacer una vida mejor en un lugar más seguro. También nos ha tocado ver las reacciones de las personas que intentan mantenerlas lejos de sus países, que se oponen a ayudar a los extranjeros y a los niños indefensos. ¿Se nos ha olvidado la enseñanza de Jesús de ayudar a los desamparados y a los extranjeros? “Traerán todos a sus hermanos y hermanas de todas las naciones . . . a Jerusalén, a mi monte santo, dice el Señor”. En las tres lecturas de hoy, se nos dice que debemos ser hospitalarios con los extranjeros, dar la bienvenida a los discípulos del Señor, lo cual nos lleva a la paz, y a “entrar por la puerta que es angosta” a la gloria del reino de Dios. Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe

Hay quienes quieren negar los derechos de los inmigrantes latinos que llegan a los Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor. Esta injusticia es extraña ya que los hispanos llegamos al territorio estadounidense en 1513, 73 años antes de la llegada de los primeros anglosajones. Estos fueron Ponce de León y compañeros quienes buscaban una mejor vida en la famosa fuente de la juventud. Eventualmente los hispanos dejaron de buscar la ilusoria fuente y en 1565 en la fiesta de san Agustín (28 de Agosto), Pedro Menéndez de Avilés fundó la primera ciudad en Florida. Gracias a su santo patrón esta ciudad ha podido so-brevivir ataques de invasores británicos y piratas, amenazas de huracanes y tempestades para convertirse en la ciudad más vieja de la Unión Americana. ¿Pero quien fue este santo? Agustín, fue un obispo africano, quien después de una vida desordenada se convirtió en uno de los santos más importantes de la Iglesia, gracias a las oraciones continuas de su madre santa Mónica. Invitamos a la comunidad a compartir con el Grupo de Oración Resurrección y Vida todos los miércoles a partir de las 7:00 pm en la iglesia. Nos reunimos para aprender más de la palabra, dar gracias a nuestro Padre Dios por las maravillas que hace, venimos a ofrecerle alabanzas y también tenemos conferencistas que los invitamos a darnos testimonios de fe, esperanza y caridad.

Programa de RICA

Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) es para los interesados en la fe católica, y para los que quieren recibir el Bautizo, la Primera Comunión, o la Confirmación.

RICA es un proceso por el cuál uno se familiarizá con nuestro Señor Jesucristo,

según fue revelado en la Santa Escritura y en la Santa Tradición.

El grupo de RICA se reúne semanalmente el martes de 7:00 pm a 9:00 pm en el Salón de San Gerónimo a partir del 24 de septiembre hasta la festividad de Pentecostés. Para mayor información, o si desea registrarse en el programa por favor llame a la Oficina Parroquial al 408-262-8100.

Entrenamiento de Ambiente Seguro

Si es voluntario en Santa Elizabeth necesita tener las huellas digitales y también asistir a este entrenamiento de Ambiente Seguro. La certificación debe ser renovada cada tres años.

La clase es el sábado 28 de septiembre, en la iglesia a las 10:00 de la mañana. Clase será en inglés.

Construcción del Pabellón ya Empezó

La construcción del Pabellón ya empezó esta semana.

Por favor tenga cuidado con las barricadas que están a la entra-da de la iglesia. ¡Por su protección y cuidado no entre en esta aréa de construcción! Las puertas principales a la iglesia estarán cerradas todo el tiempo durante este periodo de construcción. Solamente se usarán las puertas laterales como entrada a la iglesia.

Rogamos a todos tener mucho cuidado al caminar durante estos meses de construcción. Hay avisos al rededor de esta zona de precaución, pedimos que tengan mucho cuidado.

Les damos las gracias anticipadamente por su cooperación durante estos meses de construcción.

La fecha que estamos viendo para la conclusión del pabellón es el 31 de octubre. Pedimos sus oraciones.
