…from the Office for Life, Peace and Justice

Pope Francis encourages the faithful to celebrate the season of creation and implement the message of Laudato Si. In order to do this, we have planned two gatherings. First is the “Loving God through Creation” webinar which will be held on Wednesday, S e p t e m b e r 1 6 t h a t 7 p m . V i s i t h t t p s : / /www.sdcatholic.org/event/loving-god-through-creation-webinar/ for more information.

The second is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi Mass which will be held on Saturday, October 3rd at 10 a.m. at The Immaculata Parish, San Diego. Auxiliary Bishop John P. Dolan will be the main celebrant. Mass is open to attendance but seating is limited. Reserve your spot by clicking here. The Mass will also be live-streamed. For more information visit https://www.sdcatholic.org/event/feast.

San Lorenzo Novena and Mass

The Diocesan Commission for Filipino Catholics (DCFC) will be celebrating the annual feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint and martyr, with novena prayers and fiesta mass. BABY SUPPLIES NEEDED

Here at COLFS, we're helping pregnant women in many different ways including providing a newborn outfit to moms who have come in for an ultrasound exam. Unfortunately, we're running quite low in this department and we're in need of restocking. With limited access to services during this pandemic, it's vital we are here for these women and their newborns.

In particular, we are in need of new clothing items to fit newborns (gender neutral colors would work best!), in addition to Size 6 diapers. Items can be delivered to either office locations. Or, for your convenience, you can order right from our COLFS Amazon Charity List. For information, call the Mission Valley office of COLFS at (619) 692-4401.

PARISH UPDATE - COVID 19

In early September, we received a letter from Bishop McElroy discussing the easing of restrictions due to COVID-19 here in San Diego County. He stated that some parishes will elect to continue outdoor services, some parishes will have a mix, and some parishes will resume indoor services. We are lucky here in Old Town that we have been able to safely transition to outdoor services. As we look at the statistics related to COVID-19, we can see that the restrictions have been lifted in spite of the fact that the number of community outbreaks in places including churches are still in the danger zone. All the other numbers are not in the danger zone, but community outbreaks are still above the numbers that the State of California has deemed acceptable. After discussing this with our clergy (3 of 4 of us are over 75) and parish staff, it seems prudent to maintain the current practice that allows us to celebrate Eucharist every day. We will wait a few weeks to see if the numbers improve before making a decision to go back into our Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Peace, Garrett Galvin OFM and Deacon Robert Fitzmorris
