Probability and statistics
This year long course introduces you to the ideas of probability(semester 1 and the beginning of semester 2) and then usesthis to teach some ideas in statistics and data science.
The probability part will be lectured by Jonathan Jordan andRobin Stephenson. The data science part will be taught byProf Oakley.

The “lecture” slots for this course in semester 1 are Mondaysat 10 and Tuesdays at 12.
Lecture notes have been made available. These cover all ofsemester 1 and the continuation of the probability intosemester 2.
The notes are not complete: solutions to worked examples andproofs of theorems are omitted, and will be done “live” duringthe lectures.

You should have a look at the questions before the class sothat you have a good idea what you want to ask about; this isa much better use of the time available than if you only lookat them for the first time in the class.
Homework will be set after tutorials on five occasions, to behanded in on the following Monday via Blackboard. The planis that the homework deadlines before Christmas will be on theMondays 19 October, 2 November, 16 November, 30November and 14 December. I will set two questions to behanded in and marked as homework, for feedback purposes.
