NOVEMBER 26, 2017 OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
A VIEW FROM THE PEW
Come, Let Us Adore Him!
The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, formerly re-
ferred to as "Christ the King," was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an
antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God out of man's thinking
and living and organizes his life as if God did not exist. The feast is intended
to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ's royalty over individu-
als, families, society, governments, and nations.
Today's Mass establishes the titles for Christ's royalty over men: 1) Christ is God, the Creator of the
universe and hence wields a supreme power over all things; "All things were created by Him"; 2)
Christ is our Redeemer, He purchased us by His precious Blood, and made us His property and pos-
session; 3) Christ is Head of the Church, "holding in all things the primacy"; 4) God bestowed upon
Christ the nations of the world as His special possession and dominion.
Today's Mass also describes the qualities of Christ's kingdom. This kingdom is: 1) supreme, extend-
ing not only to all people but also to their princes and kings; 2) universal, extending to all nations and
to all places; 3) eternal, for "The Lord shall sit a King forever"; 4) spiritual, Christ's "kingdom is not
of this world." — Rt. Rev. Msgr. Rudolph G. Gandas

NOVEMBER 26, 2017 OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
East Honolulu Food Festival
Aloha Mary, Star of the Sea
Families,
On April 28, 2018, Mary, Star of
the Sea Schools and Church will come together to
host the Thirteenth Annual East Honolulu Food
Festival. Close to 2000 people attend this family-
oriented event, which highlights the culinary
talents of 20 great local chefs, features exciting
live music, rides, games, and other fun activities
for the keiki, and hosts a Silent Auction.
The food festival is our main fundraising event.
Last year, the funds raised went towards: reach-
ing out to local homeless shelters, developing our
Parish Youth Ministry, upgrading technology
and firewall systems, building and furniture up-
grades. This year, we plan to use the funds
raised to continue facility upgrades, new sound
system, continue our outreach to local homeless
shelters, and contribute to scholarships provided
by the Mary, Star of the Sea Scholarship Fund at
the Augustine Educational Foundation.
The support of the school community has played
a key role in the success of the Silent Auction in
the past, and we are asking for your help again
this year. All donations are tax deductible to the
extent permitted by law. This year, we are
“going green” and implementing an online
auction. We are so excited to have the ability to
showcase your company logo with a direct link to
your website in full color on our online program
guide, online auction and ticket sales page. Your
$500 or more donation qualifies you for this
benefit.
Please know that we greatly appreciate your sup-
port. If you have any questions, feel free to email
[email protected] or call
(818) 324-6210.

The Stewardship Corner
In keeping Jesus message alive in our hearts, we
give thoughts to “what is a Steward?”
“One who is entrusted with the management of
property, finances, or other
affairs not his own; an administrator.”
During this Season of Thanksgiving, let us remem-
ber that everything we have is from God. All of
our Time, our Talents, and our Treasures are a
Gift. Let us manage these gifts which have been
entrusted to us and share these gifts to serve God,
our Parish, our families and our communities
graciously.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

SUNDAY SCRIPTURE READINGS:
FIRST READING: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17 - In this reading, God
speaks to Ezekiel announcing both comfort and judgment because the
shepherds, or leaders of Israel, have not cared for their subjects. God
promises to become their shepherd.
SECOND READING: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28 - The Death
and Resurrection of Jesus is at the heart of Paul’s faith. He writes
about what God will do in the future, based on what God has al-
ready done. The Death and Resurrection of Christ is the founda-
tional belief of the whole church, past and present.
GOSPEL: Matthew 25:31-46 - Today’s Gospel speaks of the coming
of the Son of Man. The scene is the last judgment where we see people
who prepared well for the coming of the Son of Man, and those who did
not. All people will be judged on the mercy they show to the hungry,
thirsty, naked, and so on, whether they are Jesus’ disciples or not.
