Priest’s message IT GOES AND IT STAYS

The Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven is an impor-tant feast of great significance. However, it may bring us mixed feel-ings of nostalgia and hope, because it seems a separation. But ... will it be? Jesus Christ was leaving Peter as head of the Church and as his Rep-resentative. But he was also leaving his Mother as Mother of his Church, since being the Mother of Christ, she was also the Mother of her Mystical Body, which is the Church. That is why, immediately after the Ascension, She gathered them and encouraged them, praying with them in expectation of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. And Jesus gave them an order, a final order: "Go, then, and make disciples of all nations" (Mk 16: 15-20). Jesus left and left us that instruction to make disciples of his wherever we go. True, then, that Jesus went up to the heavens, but that departure was not really a separation. Because ... does not He continue with us? Of course. He is present in the Holy Eucharist. And although we do not see it there, it is alive and well complete, with all its being of Man and all its being of God. And his Eucharistic presence was not enough, because he also left us saying: "And know that I will be with you every day until the end of the world" (Mt 28, 20). Does it sometimes seem that he was not there, or that Was he asleep? But what is it, is! What would Jesus' Ascension to Heaven be like! Jesus, the Sun of Justice (Mal 3, 20), ascending radiantly in view of those present. The impact was so great that, even after Jesus disappeared, hidden by a cloud, the Apostles and disciples continued to stare at Heaven. They were in ecstasy! It was, then, when two angels interrupted them and "awakened" them: "What are you doing there looking at the sky? That same Jesus who has left them to ascend to Heaven will return as they have seen him go away "(Acts 1,11). This fact of the Angels is of the utmost importance, because it refers to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. They tell us that Jesus will return in the same way as he departed: in glory and from Heaven. He will come, then, as Judge to establish his final reign. We recognize this every time we pray the Creed: again he will come with glory to judge the living and the dead, and his Kingdom will have no end. But above the nostalgia of his departure, the mystery of the Ascension of Jesus Christ is a mystery of faith and hope in eternal life. The same physical form in which the Lord said goodbye-going up to Heaven-shows us our goal, that place where He is. And there we have all been invited, to be with Him. He had already told us when he announced his departure: "In my Fa-ther's House there are many mansions, and I go there to prepare a place for them ... I will return and take them with me, so that where I am, you too" ( Jn. 14.2-3). The Ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven in glorious body and soul awakens us the hope of our future immortality and the longing for Heaven. There we will enjoy Him and in Him of a complete happi-ness, perfect and forever. Beware of leaving your place empty!

La Fiesta de la Ascensión de Jesucristo al Cielo es una fiesta importante y de gran significación. Sin embargo, pueda que nos traiga sentimientos encontrados de nostalgia y de esperanza, porque parece una separación. Pero… ¿lo será?

Jesucristo estaba dejando a Pedro como cabeza de la Iglesia y como su Represen-tante. Pero también estaba dejando a su Madre como Madre de su Iglesia, ya que siendo Ella Madre de Cristo, era también Madre de su Cuerpo Místico, que es la Iglesia. Por eso, enseguida de la Ascensión, Ella los reunió y los animó, orando con ellos en espera del Espíritu Santo, el Consolador.

Y Jesús les dio una orden, una última orden: “Vayan, pues, y hagan discípulos a todas las gentes” (Mc 16, 15-20). Jesús se fue y nos dejó a nosotros esa instruc-ción de hacer discípulos suyos a donde vayamos.

Cierto, entonces, que Jesús se fue al subir a los cielos, pero esa partida no fue realmente una separación. Porque … ¿no sigue El con nosotros? Claro que sí. El está presente en la Sagrada Eucaristía. Y aunque no lo veamos ahí está vivo y bien completo, con todo su ser de Hombre y todo su ser de Dios.

Y no le bastó su presencia eucarística, porque además nos dejó dicho: “Y sepan que Yo estaré con ustedes todos los días hasta el fin del mundo” (Mt. 28, 20) ¿Verdad que a veces pareciera que no estuviera, o que estuviera dormi-do? Pero de que está, ¡está!

¡Cómo sería la Ascensión de Jesús al Cielo! Jesús, el Sol de Justicia (Mal 3, 20), ascendiendo radiantísimo a la vista de los presentes. El impacto fue tan grande que, aún después de haber desaparecido Jesús, ocultado por una nube, los Apóstoles y discípulos seguían mirando fijamente al Cielo. ¡Estaban en éxta-sis! Fue, entonces, cuando dos Ángeles los interrumpieron y los “despertaron”: “¿Qué hacen ahí mirando al cielo? Ese mismo Jesús que los ha dejado para subir al Cielo, volverá como lo han visto alejarse” (Hech. 1,11).

Este dato de los Ángeles es de suma importancia, porque se refiere a la Segunda Venida de Jesucristo. Nos dicen que Jesús volverá de igual manera a como partió: en gloria y desde el Cielo. Vendrá, entonces, como Juez a estable-cer su reinado definitivo. Así lo reconocemos cada vez que rezamos el Credo: de nuevo vendrá con gloria para juzgar a vivos y muertos, y su Reino no tendrá fin.

Pero por encima de la nostalgia de su partida, el misterio de la Ascensión de Jesucristo es un misterio de fe y esperanza en la vida eterna. La misma forma física en que se despidió el Señor -subiendo al Cielo- nos muestra nuestra meta, ese lugar donde El está. Y allí hemos sido invitados todos, para estar con El.

Ya nos lo había dicho al anunciar su partida: “En la Casa de mi Padre hay muchas mansiones, y voy allá a prepararles un lugar... Volveré y los llevaré junto a mí, para que donde Yo estoy, estén también ustedes” (Jn. 14,2-3).

La Ascensión de Jesucristo al Cielo en cuerpo y alma gloriosos nos despierta la esperanza de nuestra futura inmortalidad y el anhelo de Cielo. Allí disfrutare-mos con El y en El de una felicidad completa, perfecta y para siempre. ¡Cuidado con dejar tu lugar vacío!
