Weekly Outline Marty’s Marvelous Adventure Week 6 Marty – On the Way to 60! Marty’s Weekly Highlights These are extension activities that can contribute to the sixty minutes of structured physical activity recommended for preschoolers. Center/Small Group: Let the children practice their balance skills further by repeating the Beanbag Balance in Lesson 1 with other body parts, including their back, face, hip, and any others you and/or the children can think of! Activities Marty Milk Overview A. Today we’re going to learn about Marty Milk and all of the ways he moves as a Mighty Mover. Are you ready to learn and move with Marty? Let’s go!

Mighty Moves:

Balance • (Ask the children to balance on one foot and then the other.)Strength/Force – heavy, light • (Ask the children to pick up their beanbag and scarf, one ineach hand. Ask them which one is heavy? Which one is light?)

ActivitiesMiguel’s Auto ShopA. Today we are going to go with Marty to visit Miguel the Mechanic’s auto shop where he fixes cars. Miguel is going to teach us about different car parts and we are going to help out in the auto shop. Are you ready to go?

First, we need to check out the car.

Lift• the hood. Is it heavy or light?Look • under the car. Get on your hands and knees.Check out the windshield wipers. • Sway your arms back and forth like windshield wipers.Change the tires. • Stomp heavily to roll the old tire out of the way; tiptoe lightly to roll thenew tire into place.Put air in the tires. • Take deep breaths in, and blow out.Test the blinkers. • Open and close your hands.Test the horn. • Push your hand forward like pushing on a horn and make a sound likea horn.

Now the car needs washing.

Carry• the bucket of water. Is it heavy or light?Wash the car. • Move your arms in a circular motion.Clean the top of the car. • Stand on your tiptoes to reach the top.Dry the car. • Move your arms back and forth gently.Check to see if it is clean. • Hop on one foot around the front of the car (Activity Mat), hopon the other foot around the back of the car. Can you hop heavily? Can you hop lightly?

The last thing Miguel does is fill the car with gas.

Let’s help him fill the car with gas. • Squeeze your hands together like a nozzle.

Gas gives the car energy to go. Good food gives our body energy and makes us healthy.

Let’s • zoom around the room like a car full of gas. Now zoom back to your mat.

Today Marty is going to take us to the supermarket (grocery store). We are going to visit five different sections and explore all sorts of food. Inside the store there is a lot to see, so let’s get going!

( ♫ Start Music – Track 11)(Hint: The first time you do this you may only make it through a few sections.)

BakeryThe bakery makes lots of yummy foods. Pretend to be a round roll. • Make• your body long/tall like a long loaf of bread.Some breads are hard. Can you • move around your spot like you are hard/tense?Some breads are soft. Can you • move around your spot like you are soft/relaxed?Let’s • gallop to the meat section, and then gallop to a different spot.

Meat SectionMeat comes from different animals. Steak and hamburger come from cows. • Move like a cow.Chicken and turkey come from birds. Can you • move like a chicken?Seafood comes from the ocean. • Swim like a fish. Do the crab walk (hands and feet onground, stomach and head facing ceiling, back to the floor).

DairyLots of foods like Marty Milk• ™ are in the dairy section (e.g., yogurt, cheese, and butter). All ofthem are made from milk and make you strong; make a muscle.Milk comes from cows. Can you • squat down and pretend to milk a cow into a bucket?Squeeze, squeeze, squirt, squirt.Stand • up and twist to place your bucket down and pick up a new bucket.

ProduceFruits and vegetables come in all different colors. If you are on a green spot, lead the class in•making the shape of broccoli and dance around.If you are on a blue spot, lead the class in making the shape of a blueberry and • jump up and down.If you are on a red spot, lead the class in making the shape of a strawberry and • skip around your spot.If you are on a yellow spot, lead the class in pretending you are a banana • stretching towards the sky.

Dried goodsLet’s help the grocery man stock the shelves.•Pick up• your favorite kind of bean (beanbag). Reach to put it on a shelf in front of you, thendrop your can of beans.Pick up• your can of beans. Can you balance on one foot while you hold it? Can you stand onthe other foot while you hold it? Can you balance it on your head? On your shoulder? On yourother shoulder?

(If time permits and children are engaged, name other body parts to balance their beanbag on.)
