Those looking to sell their homes maywonder if the demographics support theirdecision. After all, we have been hearingthat the so-called Millennial Generation(aka “Echo Boomers” and “GenerationY”) has as little interest in buying homesas they have in purchasing automobileswith gasoline engines. If so, where willthe demand come from to support higherhome prices? It seems that the generationraised during the recent housing boomand bust is just as interested in homeown-ership as their parents are. According to arecent survey of young adults betweenages 18 and 34, fully 93% of the millen-nials questioned indicated that they planto buy a home at some point, while 43%already own a home.

After months of intensetraining, thousands of dedi-cated and determined run-ners will soon participate inthat historical race fromHopkinton to Boston: the117th Boston Marathon. Ithought I’d shine the spot-light on two Marshfield resi-dents running the “Big Run”on Monday, April 15:Katharine Kaplan andDaniel Curtin.
Katharine Kaplan has en-joyed running ever since shewas a child trying to keep upwith her marathon-lovingdad. The Plymouth nativeand Marshfield resident willrun her first full marathon asa representative of her em-ployer, the MetropolitanBoston Housing Partnership(MBHP), an affordable hous-ing and homelessness pre-vention organization servingGreater Boston. She current-ly works as a program man-ager at MBHP.
Kaplan is one of four run-ners that make up TeamMBHP, all running the 26.2miles to support the organi-zation’s programs. Kaplanand her teammates will runthe marathon while drawingattention to and supportingaffordable housing and serv-ices for those most at risk ofhomelessness.
For Kaplan, this experi-ence has combined two ofher passions: running andher work assisting some ofthe region’s more vulnerableresidents. “I’m really gratefulto have the opportunity tomake a personal goal of minea reality while raising moneyand awareness for MBHP, anorganization that I have beena part of for over 7 years,”says Kaplan.
To date, Kaplan hasreached the midway point ofher fundraising goal of$5,000. To learn more aboutTeam MBHP, and to con-tribute to this cause and helpKatharine reach her goal, go

Since its inception in 1990,the Dana-Farber MarathonChallenge has raised morethan $56 million for the BarrProgram. To support Daniel’steam and contribute to theDana-Farber MarathonChallenge, visitwww.RunDFMC.org or call617-632-1970.
