Inset Day We would like to remind parents that Friday 16th November is an Inset Day and the school is closed to students.

Anti Bullying Week Next week is Anti Bullying week (12-16 November). For this topic, we are looking at how kindness impacts people, how small acts of kindness can go a long way. We will be showing students different video clips in form time each day, promoting kindness around school and encouraging students to make a difference to someone in some small way. During form time this will be discussed and staff will offer Yellow Reward Slips for students that go above and beyond in kindness. The following articles below are interesting reading at home: 7 Acts of Kindness from the couch and the BBC news report about bullying and the relationship between adults and children. Please see below a link to articles related to this topic: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-46140135

Library event Our fantastic and dedicated librarians delivered a Halloween event in the library during the last week of term. We had a display of new horror and thriller books, information sheets about horror within Literature and a ‘create your own’ horror bookmark competition. By the end of the week, the majority of the books had been enthusiastically taken out by students; this is brilliant! Well done to Alice, Nathan and Jack on a very successful event.

Robot Rumble Intermediate Round A number of our students competed at the day-long Robot Rumble Intermediate Challenge today, Friday 9th November, alongside schools from all over Hertfordshire. The day started off with the team presentation, where the students introduced their robot, KARA J22-M18, to a panel of judges, confidently explaining their design and testing process. Each round involved a series of the 3 challenges, with a chance to improve the robot before going again into the next round. Despite setbacks, our team managed to attempt all games and came through as a team. The students acquired many fresh ideas on how to approach the challenges and are going back to the design board enthusiastically to prepare for the finals. The team did really well and we are looking forward to the finals in January.

Word of the Week As part of the school's drive to advance the reading skills of every student we are focusing on broadening vocabulary by teaching key academic words explicitly in class. To support this, we have introduced a 'Word of the Week' (WOW) that features key, high-frequency words used by all faculties across the school. The aim is to use these words as much as possible to ensure that the precise meaning is embedded to allow students to use these words accuracy in academic writing and talk in their subjects. Please support your child and the school by using this word at home and challenging your child to use it accurately.

The WOW for w/c 12th November is: Proportion

The relationship of one thing to another in terms of quantity, size, or number; ratio (noun). Example:

“Orange squash ca be diluted with water in the proportion one-part squash to ten parts water."

Rewards and Recognition Teachers regularly issue Achievement Points to students who are Aiming High, Working Hard or Being Kind. Rewards and recognition of achievement are given out through Achievement Points, which are given each week we would like to congratulate the following students who have received Green and Yellow slips. Green Slips We would like to congratulate the following students who have received a Green Slip up to 9th November.
