Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Review

This course is designed to provide a 7 day comprehensive review of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and reconstructive surgery for residents, academic faculty and all practitioners of oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as other dental and medical specialists. A com-prehensive review in the management of medical conditions and medical emergencies in the office and operating room is also included.

This course will emphasize specific treatments and surgeries for pathological conditions and syndromes as well as develop an appropriate differential diagnosis and review the histopa-thology. This course will also review pre-operative and post-operative medical management as well as post-operative medical complications and office medical emergencies.

The objective of the course is to prepare participants to systematically evaluate and work up patients, to arrive at a realistic differential diagnosis to direct treatment modalities and to assess and manage medical complications. The course includes CPC/Case reviews sessions where individual representative cases are presented for a discussion of appropriate workup, differentials diagnosis, histopathology and treatment.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to: • Recognize and diagnose pathologic conditions. • Develop specific treatment plans inclusive of reconstruction where indicated.• Assess patient’s medical conditions and risks for surgery.• Better Manage medical emergencies in the office and operating room.

This Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Medicine Review course is offered as an educational review and does not imply approval or association with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or any dental or medical specialty board. However, practitioners and residents preparing for their written and/or board examination have found this course to be extremely useful and many practitioners have realized improved diagnostic skills and treatment methods.

Separate Mock Boards in Pathology and in Medicine are additionally offered together with an assessment, critique, and suggestions for a strong performance in these subjects. SPACE IS LIMITED, SEPARATE REGISTRATION FEE REQUIRED. There will be 3 morning session and 3 afternoon session. Participants will be able to register for either or both the pathology and medicine sessions.

Description: Each participant will be examined in a one hour examination using projected images depicting cases similar to those presented during the oral and maxillofacial pathology medicine portion of the examination. The time, format, and conduct of the examination will be strictly adhered to and mimic that of the Board Examination. Each participant will also be an observer during a fellow participant’s examination. After participating in one examination and observing another, each participant will receive a constructive assessment and suggestions for improvement.

Case-based learning is an effective and stimulating method to increase your knowledge base and prepare for examinations. This volume, “Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Its Treatment,” features 100 questions derived from actual cases that will test and improve your knowledge in oral and maxillofacial pathology and its treatment.

The questions in this series cover topics that span the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial pathology, including oral cancer, odontogenic cysts and tumors, fibro-osseous diseases, salivary gland pathologies, and much more. Each item in the test is formatted as a brief description, often accompanied by a clinical photograph, radiograph, computed tomography scan, and/or laboratory value, followed by a succinct question. In most cases, the question is followed by four multiple-choice answers, of which only one is correct. A unique feature of the program is that it not only gives the correct answer, but each answer concludes with a comprehensive discussion of why it is correct and why the other options can be ruled out. Both the answers and these explanations are located in a separate file so that the test can be used both as an actual examination and as an educational tool. Also included are several “matching” questions that challenge the reader to coordinate and compare clinical, radiographic, and histopathology findings.
