Remembrance Day
I had the honour of attending the Remembrance Day Service at Maroubra Junction RSL last Saturday
morning. I was joined by 9 of our school leaders and their families. Our leaders lay a wreath on be-
half of MJPS and once again were wonderful ambassadors for our school. A huge thank you to our
leaders and their families for attending.
Safety
In light of the tragedy that occurred at Banksia Rd PS last week we now have concrete barriers in
the car park alongside the demountable and outside Care Centre. We have also installed a remote
control gate. Staff from the school and Care Centre will be the only people with the code to access
the car park.
2018 Enrolments
I am currently in the process of finalising our staffing and classes for 2018. At this stage we are
waiting on some new families to confirm that their children will be attending MJPS and as a result I
am unable to finalise our class structures and staffing entitlements. Families can assist me in this
process by:
Informing us if you are moving out of the area and your child will not be returning to MJPS in 2018.
Ensuring we have notification in writing if your child will be returning late at the beginning of the
2018 school year so that we can hold a place for them. Most families have provided this infor-
mation. If your circumstances change, please inform the school office.
School Development Days
Parents will be aware that schools have school development days on the first day of Terms 1, 2
and 3 and the last two days of Term 4. These days are non-teaching days and focus on teacher
professional learning and school planning.
The school development days scheduled for Monday 18 -19 December were re-scheduled this
year with teachers completing their professional learning workshops during evening sessions.
Accordingly, there will be no staff present on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 December this year and
the school will be deemed ‘non-operational’. Care Centre vacation care will operate on these days.
The last day of attendance for students is Friday 15 December
At the beginning of 2018 staff will return on 29 January to participate in professional learning
related to curriculum development and wellbeing. We will also be engaged in whole school strate-
gic planning and look forward to sharing this with you early next year.
The New Kindergarten students will complete their Best Start Assessments on Tuesday 30 January
– Thursday 1 February. Their first day of school will be Friday 2 February.

School Council
The days are rapidly going by and there are a number of great events to be enjoyed before the end of term. As
many of our wonderful volunteers will be leaving us because their children are going onto high school, I want to
take this opportunity to thank one small group, The School Council. Our Council has been chaired by Terri Flynn
for the past year and as Terri’s eldest son will be moving onto high school and Terri’s two years as a parent mem-
ber of Council ends this year there is a vacancy for a parent member of the Council commencing in 2018. If you
are interested in volunteering as a parent member in 2018, please complete the nomination form below.
The Council is comprised of parents, teachers and the president of the P&C and meets approximately twice each
term. The responsibilities of Council include but are not limited to:
Contributing to the development of the school strategic plan; and
Developing, monitoring, reviewing and updating policies/guidelines, being the guiding principles designed to
influence decisions and actions that the school makes.
The position of parent member is open to all parents with children at the school. Potential representatives will
need to be nominated and have a seconded by a parent from the school.

Calmsley Hill Farm. I milked the cows. I also liked the pigs. I
loved riding on the bus and I looked at a koala. I liked
patting the goats. I didn’t like the noise of the goats. We
also got some wool then we went back to school on the
bus.”
