Community Service Award Soror Natalie Thomas will be honored with a community service award at the 17th Annual Black History Month Program sponsored by the Louisville Metro Council. Eta Omega members are cordially invited to help celebrate Soror Natalie as she receives the District 7 award on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at 12 noon. The ceremony will be held in the 3rd floor Council Chambers at City Hall, 601 W. Jefferson St. The program is free and open to the public.

Soror Elmer Lucille Allen There is one page of black and white photos devoted to the 2019 LVA Legacy Award Luncheon in this edition. Last year I received the 2018 LVA Legacy Award in memory of Julius Friedman. And I presented the 2019 LVA Legacy Award in memory of Julius Friedman to Ed Hamilton. The Louisville Defender can be purchased at Walgreens, Kroger and other stores in West Louisville. I thank Laura Ross, national known ceramic artist, for the lovely awards that she created. The cover photograph was taken by Eddie Davis.

Regional Transportation The Pi Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will be chartering a bus to Indianapolis to our 85th Central Regional Conference, March 28 - March 31, 2019. *Please note this stroll is for the CRC Invitation for 2020* Stroll: The detailed instructional video of the stroll is below. If you plan to participate in the stroll, please review the video and practice at your leisure. As promised, it is not difficult, so any soror can master it! We will also have stroll practices on February 22 and March 8 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at Engelhard Elementary School (1004 South 1st St., Louisville, KY 40203). Although attendance is NOT mandatory, please feel free to join us. We also plan to meet up during Regional Conference to review the stroll (date/time/location TBA). Please remember that we want to have a uniform look, so we are asking that you order the pink oxford shirt if you are participating (see previous email regarding shirt orders). Invitational Stroll.mp4 Video Presentation: The Invitation will also include a video. The video will be approximately 3 minutes long and will be centered around the theme "The Bluegrass Turns Pink". On Sunday, February 17, we will be recording short segments at a few different locations in Louisville. Details of the locations, times and requested attire are listed below. All sorors of Clusters 6 & 7 are invited to join us at any one of the locations on February 17 to participate in the video! We do recognize that due to distance, some chapters may not be able to attend the video

recording sessions. However, you can still be seen in the video.

Video Location/Time/Attire Details:

Churchill Downs: Recording time 2:30 PROMPTLY (please gather at 2:15 for instruction)

Attire: Pink dresses, and pink & green fascinator.

Louisville Slugger Museum: Recording time 3:30 PROMPTLY (please gather outside by the BIG BAT at 3:15 for instruction)

Attire: AKA Baseball shirts, ball hats, jeans, gym shoes

Muhammad Ali Center: Recording time 4:30 PROMPTLY (gather outside the entrance area at 4:15pm)

***We will only be able to accommodate 13 Sorors , due to costuming***

Attire: ALL BLACK. We will supply 13 Sorors with pink satin robes to put over top of your all black.

Super Chefs: Recording time 5:45 PROMPTLY (Gather in front of the restaurant at 5:30 for instruction)

Attire: All BLACK. We will supply pink material to make you a cape.

Please be mindful that we will be recording outdoors; it is forecasted to be a little chilly. At some point, we will need all coats removed so that our theme comes through well on camera (PLEASE understand).

CRC Invitation Shirt Order Information

*Turn in order and money to Soror Marilyn Marshall by February 24th. Make check payable to Eta Omega.* We STRONGLY encourage a coordinated look, and want the room to be VERY pink. We kindly ask that sorors participating in the invitation purchase the pink Oxford shirt that has been selected for the presentation. This shirt will have the Ivy, the theme and the state of Kentucky on the upper left side (see attached picture of the logo). There are sizes for everyone (S-4X). If for some reason a special size is needed (larger than a 4X), please contact Soror Cassandra Miller at [email protected] or at 502-303-8660. We tried to keep the cost to a minimum without sacrificing quality and style. The cost for the shirt is $25. Adjua Acua LLC, dba, Greekstreet Apparel is our vendor who is officially licensed with the sorority.

Sorors, February 18, 2019 is the last day to register for AKA Day at the Capitol!!! Registration is online through our AKA Members only website Please register and let me know so I may give our chapter head count for attendance and meal planning. The 2019 AKA Day at the Capitol is Wednesday, February 20, 2019. The registration fee is $30.00 for graduate sorors and $15.00 for undergraduate sorors and includes lunch. The morning program will be at St. John A.M.E. Church and the afternoon program will be at the Capitol.

NPHC Greek Bowl-for-Kids The NPHC Greek Bowl-for-Kids’ Sake will take place on Saturday, March 16th, our time slot is from 1:00PM - 3:00PM. We need a team of at least 4-6 people or more to represent Alpha Kappa Alpha - Eta Omega chapter as well as donors. Little Miss AKA There will be a LMAKA meeting at 10:00am before the March 2nd Sorority meeting at McFerran Elementary School. The sponsor's application and non-refundable $75 fee are due on that day. We will be available to take the fee and application before and after the meeting. The 2019 Little Miss AKA Cotillion will take place on June 22, 2019 at Kentucky Country Day Theater. Young ladies who are presently in the 3rd-5th grade are eligible to participate. Only sorors in the Eta Omega Chapter can sponsor the young ladies. AKA Assist

As part of Target 3, AKA Assist we have adopted a transitional house. The House of Hope, their mission is to provide transitional housing for single, homeless women in recovery from substance abuse who desire to lead healthy, sober, productive lives by helping them to repair, rebuild and restore their lives. As a part of AKA Assist we have planned to set up different activities. Currently they have some needs. Throughout the year we will be taking up these things up at our monthly Sorority meetings:

• Twin-size bedding to include sheets, pillow, pillow case and comforter

• Towels and wash cloths • Toiletries • Sanitary pads • Washing detergent • Fabric softer • Cleaning supplies • Rental assistance • Tarc tickets

Sisterly, Target 3 Committee

Black History Month Program at Central High School Central High School is inviting NPHC - the Divine 9 to participate in our Gallery of Black Greek Lettered Organization’s. This cannot happen without you! On February 21st from 11am – 1pm after our Black History program we would like to expose our senior students to Greek life. We will provide a table for each organization to put your paraphernalia and memorabilia on as well as an information sheet about our organization. We ask that you stay or split your time to interact and answer questions. You’re also invited to come to the program from 9:30-11, Rev. Corrie Shull will be our guest speaker. Our theme is “Stronger Than Hate”. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested in representing your organization let me know how many you will send and if you have any food allergies.
