Revival – August 21-24 with

Bro. Ronnie Sivells

In his book I Surrender, Patrick Morley writes

that the church’s integrity problem is in the

misconception "that we can add Christ to our lives, but

not subtract sin. It is a change in belief without a change

in behavior." He goes on to say, "It is revival without

reformation, without repentance."

Charles Finney is considered one of America’s

greatest past revivalist. Church roles swelled in the

wake of Finney’s revivals. The time frame was in the

1830’s. It is said that his revival meetings transformed

entire towns and in some towns after the meetings, the

bars would close down because there was no business

for them, and churches would spring up in their place.

Charles Finney made a significant impression upon the

religious life of 19th century America, and his influence

is still evident today. Called the “father of modern

revivalism” by some historians, he paved the way for

later revivalists like Dwight L. Moody, Billy Sunday,

and Billy Graham.

During his ministry he made the following

observations about revival:

1. A revival always includes the conviction of sin on the

part of the church.

2. Backslidden Christians will be brought to repentance.

3. A revival is nothing else than a new beginning of

obedience to God. Just as in the case of a converted

sinner, the first step is a deeper repentance, a breaking

down of the heart, a getting down into the dust before

God, with deep humility, and a forsaking of sin.

4. Christians will have their faith renewed…they will

see things in that strong light which will renew the love

of God in their hearts. This will lead them to labor

zealously to bring others to him.

5. A revival breaks the power of the world and of sin

over Christians.

6. When the churches are thus awakened and reformed,

the reformation and salvation of sinners will follow…

7. Revival is nothing more or less than a new obedience

to God!

Leonard Ravenhill said this in his book Why Revival

Tarries

“No man is greater than his prayer life…Poverty–

stricken as the church is today in many things, she is

most stricken here, in the place of PRAYER.

We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many

players and payers, few PRAYERS.

The ministry of preaching is open to few, the ministry

of PRAYER- the highest ministry of all human offices

is open to all."

Let's anticipate and prepare our hearts for a fresh

awakening of the Spirit of God in us. It requires a

devotion and discipline to prayer.

Forever His, Jeff

In the past we have had several generous donations given to our

church library, but due to limited space in our Trumpet, we cannot

give an exhaustive list of each individual item. Here is a list of some

who have donated books:

Ann Tafarella in memory of her husband Tony

Sandra Lawson and John & Lauren Bickel in memory of

their parents John Edmund and Grace Bickel

Marilyn Rice in memory of her mother Marjorie Keenan

Grant & Cheryl Burton, Mary Jane Nicholson, Jean McKee, Lucille Emberton

Dan & Emory Haire, Brian & Candace Elliott, Shelby & Donald Rice

If you would like to make a donation to our library, please come in and speak to one of our staff.

We will be having an open house very soon. Watch the Trumpet for date and details.

A truly heartfelt thanks to Bro. Gene O’Bryan and Jerry Rosner for their

visit and prayers prior to my recent heart cauterization. They were there after-

wards together with Bro. Eugene Howard who offered a prayer of thanks for the

good result requiring no stints.

Dear Church Family,

Thank you for my cup and pen for graduation, but

more importantly I thank you for the prayers and support

(and just a bit of harassment) I received from you all that

got me through the hard times.

I Love You Guys,

Doug Tarrence

The family of

Mrs. Pauline W. Tanner

gratefully acknowledges your

kind expression of sympathy.

The Tanner Family

Thank you brothers and sisters for your generosity in our mission project for the

2nd quarter of 2011. The Friends Of Sinners houses will be well stocked with

necessities due to your obedience to the Lord’s voice. Thank you again and may

God bless you as you bless Him.

Ladies In Action Team

We would like to express our thankfulness for your support and love dur-

ing the illness and death of our son, Jerry Moody. Thank you for the phone calls,

cards, visits at the funeral home, food, wonderful Gideon Bibles given in his

honor and most of all your prayers that strengthen. God’s love has been poured

upon us through your faithfulness and through the Holy Spirit.

This has encouraged us to go on serving our Savior until we can see him

again. What a joy it is to serve Him here with you our Church family.

Bro. Jeff and your staff: Each of you truly are an example of Jesus,

through your kind words, your actions and love.

We have a richer understanding of the nurturing God we serve. May God

bless each of you, and may He be glorified in all our efforts.

Bro. Les & Coreta Moody

“Retirement--The act of withdrawing from one’s position or occupation.” Such a sterile meaning

for such an emotional and difficult act. A word that is NOT found in the Bible. So, while Marie and I say

we are retiring from leadership of the Senior Adult Ministry, we are not “retiring” from the Lord’s work.

We are only moving in other directions as He leads. It is our desire to adjust our life to Him and His ways.

It has been an amazing and wonderful eight years of serving along side our senior adults. And we

look forward to joining with you as we support, pray for, and love whomever God sends to lead us in the

special work God has for the seniors of WMBC.

After much soul-searching and prayer, we talked with our pastor and staff and submitted our letter

to retire from the Senior Adult Ministry as of June 30th. We will be taking the month of July off for further

prayer and reflection as to how God wants to use us in His work.

Many of you have gone through the “Experiencing God” study. One of the instructions deals with

our busyness and you know how often we have exclaimed, “We’re so busy!!!” So I share this tidbit from

Experiencing God:

“We are a doing people. We always want to be doing something!

In contrast, I think God is crying out to us,

‘Don’t just do something. Stand there!

Enter a love relationship with Me. Get to know Me. Adjust your life to Me.

Let Me love you and reveal Myself through you to a watching world.’

A time will come when doing will be called for, but we cannot skip the relationship.

The relationship with God must come first.”

So, for a brief time we plan to “don’t just do something. Stand there!” We do know that He has not

released us from teaching our respective Bible study classes.

There are no words to adequately express our love and appreciation to the seniors, staff and entire

church family for the bond of love we

have in Christ and your willingness to

roll up your sleeves and become

involved with God in His work.

We look forward to exciting

times with you as each of us

at WMBC submit to Christ’s

Lordship over our lives and to

Christ’s headship over our

church.

Serving God, serving others,
