S HARING THE L OVE FOR MUSIC Music month is celebrated throughout New Zealand during May. This year this was particularly important as we marked the 30 year anniversary of this wonderful initiative. Every Friday the sound of music filled the Atrium with Lunch concerts. We had performances from all music groups at school – the Jazz band, the School Orchestra, Marybelles and Marist Stella choirs. Our newly formed rock group Lights out got great support and probably their own fan club! The highlight of the music activity was the Orchestra visit to Morningside Kindergaten, where we were met by keen audience. The little boys and girls learned about different instruments and their sounds – they were especially impressed by the trombone! The music of the Pirates of the Caribbeanwas captivating and everyone tried to clap and conduct along the rhythm of Tourdion. Who knows – maybe we have inspired a future Mozart! PASIFIKA AND MAORI F ONO /H UI I S A LIVE AND WELL A T MARIST It was extremely gratifying to see so many of our parents, students and staff gather at last Thursdays fono/hui/meeting based on Years 7 and 8 Junior Mentoring Programme. It was a special time for our junior students to introduce their big sister’/mentor to their parents and find out first hand of what mentoring is all about. It is an integral part of the programme to make this connection between home and school as together we can achieve so much more. We invite any of our Year 9 and 10 Pasifika and Maori families to come along to our fono/hui next month on Tuesday 16th June. Thank you Parents for your attendance and support. This year Marist college had 5 students, who represented our school in each category with true Marist spirit. It was a great opportunity for the participants to not only make friends, but to reflect and listen to the Gospel and see the perspective of other young people.

Junior speech participant Yohanna D'Costa and senior oratory participant Leah Pereira both placed second in their categories and Maori scripture, junior scripture and senior scripture participants Amanda Dalgado, Madyson Ierome Fatu and Allebina Pailate are also to be commended on their participation in this competition.
