Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016Olympic Games is a sports game inwhich Mario™ and Sonic characterscompete in various events at the Rio2016 Olympic Games.Some events in this game usedifferent rules from those used inreal life.All Olympic Records and WorldRecords featured in this game arebased on official records as ofSeptember 8, 2015.The names of countries and theirflags are based on those in use asof August 25, 2015.

7 Starting the Game

User data will be created when youplay for the first time. Select Miicharacter, national flag, and COMlevel, and then proceed to the MainMenu.

You can make thfollowing selectionfrom the Main Menu

Play Olympic Events or Plus Eventsin this basic single-player mode.

Play through a story in which you'llbecome a member of a gym.Costumes and gear you collect inthis mode can also be usedelsewhere.

A maximum of four people cancompete against one another inOlympic Events or Plus Eventsonline.

9 Saving and Deleting Data

Game progress is automaticallysaved when an event is completedor when settings are changed inOptions. In the Road to Rio mode, you cansave your progress while on themap screen by touching Save on theTouch Screen or pressing .

To delete data, select User Settingsin Options and pre . Once data is deleted, it cannot beretrieved, so please proceed withcaution!

10 Multiplayer

There are two ways to play inVersus Mode.

By selecting Nintendo 3DS LocalPlay, up to four people can enjoycompetitive play as long as eachplayer has their own game and aNintendo 3DS system.

Each player must have aNintendo 3DS system (up to fourplayers, each with his or her ownsystem).

11 Pocket Marathon

In Pocket Marathon, you can meetrival and supporting Mii charactersthrough two different types ofwireless communication.

If you connect to the online rankingsin Records, ranked players' Miicharacters will appear as your rivalsin the Pocket Marathon.

If you pass by another player whohas StreetPass registered for thissoftware, you will automaticallyexchange user data. The player's Miicharacter will then appear in PocketMarathon mode to cheer your runneron.

Go to Options, select GameSettings, and switch the StreetPasssetting to ON.Turn it to OFF to disable StreetPass.

14 Sharing Play Data

Even when you're not playing, thesystem can automatically search forand connect to a wireless accesspoint while in Sleep Mode and sendyour play-data information. Thisinformation will be utilized for futureproduct development and will notidentify individual users.

When you start playing the game,you will be asked if you want toenable SpotPass in order to shareyour gameplay information. ChooseYes to enable this feature.

You can enable or disable SpotPassat any time by going to GameSettings in the Options menu.
