Dear friendsThe summer has fi nally arrived in Mariánské Lázně. The fi rst rays of really warm sun are sparkling in our parks and are drawing us out into the nature. One of our most beautiful hotels, Nové Lázně***** in-creased its services by enlarging its sauna area. Thanks to this, it is now proud to offer a complete sauna world for its clients. It contains a samarium, which operates at 50 degrees, and the sauna offering a temperature of 90 degrees.Now added to these options are a sauna with Tibetan salt, a cooling pool or crushed ice for faster cooling. Of course there is a rest room, all contained within the beautiful environment of the Roman Spa dating from the year 1896. Spa treatments exist alongside demanding medical disci-plines with the study of natural resources and their infl u-ence and impact is known as Balneology. If you would like to know why the mineral baths have the greatest effect at a temperature of 33C, why the gas in our dry gas envelopes is called Maria Spring then come to our regular medical talks that are given by our main balneolo-gists with tens of years experience in this fi eld. The talks take place in the Hotel Butterfl y every Wednes-day and in Nové Lázně every Thursday. (they are given in German or Russian languages)The next talks will be in the hotels Hvězda and Pacifi k de-pending on the interest shown by guests.

Nordic WalkingMariánské Lázně is situated in the Nature Reserve Slavkovský Les. The whole area of this protected land-scape is littered with a network of marked walking trails that offer a lot of interesting destinations for tourists. Come for a lecture on Nordic Walking every Tuesday from 15.00 in front of the Hotel Nové Lázně. An experi-enced instructor will teach you the basics of this healthy exercise for all age categories.

Trail Bike RidingMariánské Lázně and its surroundings offers to lovers of trail bike riding, the ideal conditions. A large number of marked bike trails in the Teplá area connecting to the Euregio Egrensis bike network allows riders to get to know the surrounding nature and various historically interesting places.Renting a bike can be booked at the reception of your hotel and you can also get a map of the local surround-ings.

STATUES OF TWO MONARCHS

Just 100m from the Hotel Nové Lázně, next to the roundabout, has now appeared two life size bronze stat-ues who represent the most famous visitors to Marián-ské Lázně, English King Edward VII and Emperor Franz Josef I. The unveiling of these statues was one of the main at-tractions of the opening of the 205th Spa Season in Mariánské Lázně thanks to the presence of the famous descendants of these monarchs. Representing the line of King Edward VII was Prince Galitzin and representing the branch of the House of Habsburg was Jiří Habsburg. These famous guests stayed in the Hotel Nové Lázně, joining the ranks of their famous ancestors.

If you visit the statues of our famous monarchs you must try the Balbín Spring water which is situated just metres from them. This spring is not too mineralized which is why it is suitable for regular drinking and revitalization of the body & soul.

Use your bike to visit the famous Castle Bečov that contains the unique relic of St Moor (the second most valuable monument after the crown jewels of Czech kings), the well preserved Gothic Castle Loket, the Nature Reserve of Kladská or the mysterious mud pools SOOS close to Františkovy Lázně. If you are wondering how to make your stay in Mariánské Lázně more enjoyable, why don‘t you make a trip to Pilsen to get acquainted with a Czech legend – Pilsner Urquell lager, which was born there more than 170 years ago. You can get from Mariánské Lázně to the beer capi-tal of the world, as Pilsen is nicknamed, com-fortably by train in only about an hour.

The Pilsner Urquell brewery is a modern facility, and, at the same time, a unique industrial heritage site, which in 2008 gained the status of Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). The tour of the Pilsner Urquell brewery takes visitors to all the authentic places where Pil-sner Urquell lager has been brewed since 1842. You will get to taste the raw materials the famous lager is brewed from. The tour includes a visit to the heart of the brewery – the historic and current brewhouses, a panoramic screening room, the brewery‘s hall of fame, and the modern packaging hall with a capacity of 120,000 bottles per hour. The visit culminates in the old brewery cellars, where visitors aged 18 and above can taste unfi ltered and unpasteurized Pilsner Urquell tapped directly from old oak lager barrels. The tours in English start at 12:45 pm, 2:45 pm and 4:15 pm every day.After the tour, we recommend that you visit the Na Spilce restaurant, located in the brewery, whose capacity of 550 persons makes it the largest beer-house in Bohemia, and which offers excellent tra-ditional Czech cuisine and well-conditioned Pilsner Urquell beer.

If you want to learn everything there is to know about beer, visit the Brewery Museum, located in the city center. Situated in a well-preserved 15th century building which once held a license to brew beer, the museum, with its unique atmosphere of the Middle Ages, provides an opportunity to fi nd out about the way beer has been brewed, served and drunk from antiquity up to the present. Visitors aged 18 or older can taste Pilsner Urquell beer in the museum. The museum is opened every day from 10 am to 6 pm.

The third tourist attraction worth visiting is the Pilsner Historical Underground, a labyrinth of passageways, cellars and wells, the building of which began as early as in the 14th century. Come and discover the se-

crets of its authentic niches and nooks. Tasting of the Master beer (only for persons 18 or older) is part of the tour. The entrance to the Pilsner Historical Under-ground is from the building of the Brewery Museum. The tours in English start 12:40 pm every day.

A tip for a trip to Pilsen: The train journey from Mariánské Lázně to Pilsen takes 60 minutes and costs CZK 110. Trains in both directions depart every two hours. The brewery is only about 10 minutes‘ walking distance from the railway station, and the Brewery Museum with the Pilsner Historical Underground 20 minutes.
