Poaching TurtlesPeople poach turtles because of money, culture, fun, needs and accident. Most people sell the poached turtles and their eggs in the black market for money. Most of the other turtles die because of accidents, they eat plastic bags, the nests could be squished by hotels or they could be squished by cars or motorcycles. People poach turtles by: putting a cage that closes when a turtles goes in, the turtles can get tangled in fishing nets ad drown, turtles get confused and go toward the cities and not toward the sea. Poachers can turn them up side down cut their legs and boil them alive, or when turtles are nesting poachers just grab them. People grab the turtles kill them and eat their meat or the people could cook the turtle eggs too. Eggs are believed to give superpowers to people who consume them. The turtles also can be turned into ornaments like jewelery, sunglasses, instruments, wall hangings and much more. This stuff is sold in the black market.

Page 6: Marine Turtle Times

Change in Poaching TurtlesThe number of poached turtles has increased. In Mexico beaches last year 200,000 turtles came to lay their eggs but now 50% less. Another example is that in 1947 there where 40,000 Kemp Ridley’s but now there is fewer than 800. Before more people poached because of tradition and for beliefs of gaining superpowers but now people poach to sell in the black market for money or just to have fun. Poaching has changed over time because the number of poached turtles has increased and now more turtles are poached. The ways of using turtles has changed also before it was more for need and now it is more for money.

How Poaching affects the worldPollution affects all stages of turtles from hatch lings to adults toxic turtles or chemicals can be really dangerous to turtles the turtles could get sick and die immediately or slowly. Plastic bags can be mistaken for jellyfish and turtles can choke when they eat the plastic. Oil spills are also deathly for turtles. They can get caught in eat and die. Poachers sometimes poach because they need food or money. Poachers might think that it is necessary but it is wrong. It is connected because human is not the only being that kills turtles predators kill them too and pollution also does but if we add all those turtle that die lots of turtles are dying and that's bad. Poaching connects because we are killing more turtles then what the earth

needs

Beginning of ExhibitionThe exhibition has been really good so far. We have learned new things that we didn’t know before and we are learning more every day. My group is a interesting group that has different points of view. I hope the exhibition keeps the same way for all year. March,14,2011 Up to know we are going good. Sometimes it is hard to find information but we know its possible. We are know developing some interview questions and we are making them good so that we can get good amount of information for our exhibition.

Daniel’s Reflections:March,10,2011

At first we kind of didn't know where to start but then we started developing our student

questions and we got under way. I have been feeling like wanting to know what we should do next in our project and I'm kind of excited and nervous about the project. My group is really

good and it has been really interesting about our perspectives. We work nicely like a team and it is a good experience for me!!

March,14,2011

Today we are getting the idea of doing an interview to some classes and we are really trying hard to make our questions deep and interesting so that this interview is useful for us. I think

that by now I'm really getting the hang of exhibition.

Regina’s Reflections (ERJ :Exhibition Reflection Journal)

Page 9: Marine Turtle Times

Dear ERJ,

Today I looked for information for turtle poaching. I thought it would be simple but I guess it not that easy. I also had problems these last 2 days with a person I am sharing the laptop. He sometimes shares it and then no. This person can be bossy and I can’t concentrate on my work.

When I started this research I only thought about one side of poaching but then I became more flexible and thought that poaching helps the poor earn a living.

End of ExhibitionIt has been long since I wrote because there was no laptops. The investigation has really good and we have answered all the questions of lines of inquiry 1 and 3. Regina sometimes is just

looking for information and does not put it together even if I tell her. She is supposed to answer line of inquiry 2 but she hasn't started yet.

May,2,2011

Daniel came back from China finally now our group is complete again. Daniel send ed

information from china even that he could not get into google or anything. Regina I think is now starting to put the information together.

Daniel’s Reflections:May,2,2011

I am back from China now. I couldn't get in contact a lot with my group because google is

banned there but I was able to send information from Hong Kong. My group is making a lot of progress. I am happy because of this. I think we are almost ready.

May,3,2011

I think now we can start planning how we can present it because we are almost done with part

of the research. I am really excited because exhibition day is getting closer and closer.

Regina’s Reflections:

Dear ERJ Thursday March 24, 2011

On Tuesday we went to the library. My group chose two books about turtles. I read an article that said Mexico is one of the biggest poaching place. I also read an article that they have

done organizations to help protect them.I saw a horrible video of people torturing animals. Its horrible, horrible video. I cried

and inside I'm still crying. The poor things. I wish I could do something. Donate, make an organization. Just something. Today I have been caring. Caring to animals and people. Why do they do it?

Fashion Article The new style: flowery and hippy The natural “new” style looks perfect on nature lovers. The flare of the dresses suit perfectly the “peace out” war protestants teens these days . With a hint of modern looks, it suits boys and girls

Sport Section

We are only 16 days away from the most awaited soccer match in all of 2011, the Champions League final in the legendary Wembley stadium where this time the Manchester United and the Barcelona will crash into a great battle … Wembley has been the stage of many great games that we will NEVER forget, this match will probably come into this category... This game really does not have any favorite , one of the best attackers in the world with Wayne Rooney , Michael Owen and this year’s greatest sensation , Javier “ Chicharito “ Hernandez will face a defence that is considered one of the greatest of all times with Puyol , Pique and Abidal. We cannot say United is favorite because the game will be played in London; 2 years ago Barcelona won a game like this to the

United. The pressure on the players gets bigger and bigger every day , the big day is getting closer, the fans are anxiously waiting …
