Connecting area
Operating area:This is the real area in which the loading arm can move freely, during loading or unloading.
Warning area:When entering the warning area, pre-alarms (audible, visible) are given to draw operators intention. Stop loading or unloadingand try to move the ship back into the operating area.
Emergency release area:Area in which Emergency Release Coupling (ERC) is being activated and finally will break.
Maximum reach (limit line):Movements outside the limit line will cause mechanical damage to the loading arms.

Marine Loading Arm MLA260
General description
Application:The MLA 260 series are the most efficient marine loading arms on the market, due to their slim design and the availability of a number of design options to ensure that specific site requirements are met in the best possible way.The MLA260 can be used with virtually all liquids and gases which are capableof being transferred.
Characteristics:
GeneralThe MLA260 model has self-supporting product pipes, which are designed to absorb all possible forces associated with structural mass, fluid weight, pressure load and wind load. The use of a unique double inboard arm has resulted in the smallest design footprint possible, ensuring that the loads encountered at the MLA260 baseplate are the lowest when compared with any other type of arm.
BalancingBalancing of the loading arm is achieved by means of a rigid pantograph structure linking the counterweight to the outboard arm.The counterweight is designed to rotate, thereby enabling the counterweight to cater for two different movements. During operations, the arm will be fully balanced irrespective whether the product pipes are full or empty. The counterweight is adjustable to enable the balance of the arm to be fine tuned.Special care has been given to the rotating pivots of the pantograph bar, bothin terms of design and material selection, ensuring smooth operation with a minimum of required maintenance.
Swivel JointsKANON swivels are an integral part of every Kanon loading arm and feature:• 4-point contact ball-races.• Long life lubrication.• ‘Tell-Tale’ leakage indicators and in-situ product seal replacement.• Corrosion proof seal-faces.The KANON triple swivel joint assembly is self-levelling, allowing easy connection and disconnection of the loading arm at the ship’s manifold.Swivel joints are described in detail in separate bulletins.

Marine loading arm MLA262
General description
Application:The MLA262 should be selected for special applications such as the transfer of corrosive or extremely hazardous and/or toxic fluids. The product pipeline is supported by a separate rigid stucture. This provides the advantage that the product line can be replaced if needed without dismantling the entire arm.
Characteristics:
GeneralThe MLA262 is designed around a separate supporting frame structure, which is mounted upon independent, large format bearings to absorb the forces associated with structural mass, fluid weight and wind load. The product piping is effectively suspended within the loading arm frame, and is only exposed to the forces of pressure load and fluid weight. The surface of the frame construction is minimised in order to achieve the lowest possible wind loadfactor.
BalancingBalancing of the loading arm is achieved by means of a ‘ cable wheel’ system linking the counterweight to the outboard arm. The counterweight is designed to rotate, thereby enabling the counterweight to cater for two different movements.During operations, the arm will be fully balanced irrespective whether the product piping is full or empty. The counterweight is adjustable to enable the balance of the arm to be fine tuned.

Operation:Kanon Marine Loading Arms can be operated either manually or hydraulically, depending on product pipe size, physical dimensions and fitted accessories.
Hydraulic operation requires 2 drives for inboard and outboard arm movement and 1 drive for slewing (rotation) movement.
Operation of the hydraulic loading arm can be effected by means of:• Levers directly mounted to the valve block adjacent to the loading arm
standpost - (manual hydraulic operation)• By pushbuttons on either the operator console or on the remote control
pendant box/wireless set - (electric hydraulic operation).
All KANON hydraulic and electrical control systems are inherently safe. Thehydraulic circuit includes over-pressure relief valves adjusted to 190 barmaximum (system pressure maximum 210 bar). Specific details of hydrauliccontrols are provided in separate bulletins.
Accessories:Depending on customers needs, the following options can be offered:• Vapour return line, piggy back style.• Drain, purge, flush, product recovery and pigging systems.• Quick connect/disconnect coupling.• Vacuum breaker.• Shut-off valve.• In-situ replacement of swivel joint product seals. • Range monitoring alarm.• Isolation flange.• Centralised ‘Tell-Tale’ leakage indicators for all swivel joints.• Adjustable support jack.• Electrical heating/tracing.• Steam or hot oil tracing/jacketing.• Thermal insulation.• Access ladders and maintenance platforms.

Kanon's Emergency safety Systems (ERS) are used to ensure best possible safety in fluid loading/unloading operations with Marine Loading Arms. The system allows full automatic and safedisconnection of the loading arm from the ship without productspillage, when the arm exceeds the operating envelope's limitline. By means of a simple and unique design, the Kanon ERS providesintrinsic safety which has been field-proven in many Marine Loading Arms and applications.Kanon's ERS systems and specifically the Emergency Release Coupling are known as 'workhorses' in the fluid transfer industryproviding powerfull performance with 'no' maintenance.
