    Dear LAPMS Parents and Families,

February was a busy month for LAPMS students. We celebrated love and friendship as children

exchanged cards in the classroom during Valentines Day. Children immersed themselves in the rich

cultures of Asia as they learned about the Chinese New Year. We also celebrated the leaders of our

nation and enjoyed activities related to Presidents Day.

Our Talent Show was a success! Children were so proud to showcase their unique talents. It was a

celebration of music, personality, and individuality. Our stage was alive with talent, and our

courtyard filled with proud, smiling parents! Thank you to all the parents who attended our event

    and showed their support.

In celebration of reading and literature, we are celebrating Dr. Seuss birthday with our annualReadathon, which is on Tuesday, March 3rd. Children may come dressed in pajamas and share a

book to read with their friends. Parents may sign-up to read a book to their childs classroom after

    morning circle time.

This March, we are also holding our First Annual Science Fair on Thursday, March 26th. Children

immerse themselves each day in the world of science as they explore materials in our Montessori

cultural shelves, whether it is zoology, botany, geography, physics, or chemistry. This is their

opportunity to showcase what they have learned and apply the scientific method, a concept they are

learning in class. We look forward to viewing the childrens unique projects!

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Aurelia

    Special Thanks. 4

What Parents Are Saying about Learnand Play Montessori at Niles

I personally like the teachers and management of LAPMS Niles

for doing their best at work and considering parents requests

based on individual preferences. My son has learned and

enjoyed every moment at LAPMS with his loving and caring

teachers. In my opinion LAPMS is like a second home filled

with a variety of academic and extracurricular activities for

children at all levels. This is the best Montessori

school in Fremont. My special thanks to Ms. Kiranand Ms. Aurelia for every task you have done so far.

Lets take a close look at the way the day

unfolds for a Montessori child. After the

morning circle, the morning work period

begins. During this time, the child may

    receive Montessori presentations from a

teacher or choose a material to work on.

The child walks around, glancing at the

materials on the shelves. They are

inviting, colorful. Yet the child wanders

for a few more minutes, all the while the

teacher is observing close by, ready to

    guide.

Just as the teacher begins to approach,

the child walks over to the language shelf

and examines a puzzle. She walks over to

a crate near one of the shelves and takes

a rug, arranging it carefully on the carpet.

She completes the puzzle within minutes,

and puts it back on the shelf.

    Many Montessori children begin their

work period this way. It might take the

child a few different jobs to find that

one work that would captivate her. The

child is free to work on the material for as

long as she needs. The child will then put

the work away, feeling refreshed and

    peaceful.

The uninterrupted work cycle is an

    essential part of any Montessori

classroom. The work cycle begins with

preparation of the workthe child taking

a rug and laying it on the carpet, and then

choosing a material. The child will then

engage in the work, and put it away when

    finished.

This is why the work cycle must be

    uninterrupted. The children need

    adequate time to choose productive

work, to focus on the activity chosen and

work on their own pace, and finish the

task. A period of rest is necessary as well,

as children eat snack, leaf through a book,

or socialize briefly with friends without

    interrupting those who are working.

    Then, the cycle begins again.

The difference within the child is palpable

after completing a work cycle. Children

become engrossed, and the quality and

level of concentration is deeper. As thesequence repeats itself, the child is almost

transformed. The child is more joyful,

    refreshed, peaceful.

Teachers protect the work period with

their life! Parents can help by minimizing

interruptions in the classroom. Here are a

    few tips:

Arrive on time. We all have

    busy schedules, but arriving

    before the morning circle avoids

    interruptions.

    Dropping off during work period

is sometimes unavoidable. Helpchildren maintain concentration

    by whispering. If you must

speak to a teacher, take her

    aside and speak in hushed

    voices.

If you are picking up your child

    early, inform the teacher

    beforehand so that your child

has ample time to prepare and

    gather her things.

    Dear Parents,

February was a busy month! Thank you to all the Room 2 parents

who have visited our classroom as guest presenters. One of our beloved

parents, Ms. Ingrid, visited our classroom and presented the classic works

of Pablo Picasso, and showed children how to create their very own cubist

artwork. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!

We also enjoyed a guest presentation on Chinese New Year from Mr.

Chao-Lin, a Room 2 parent. Thank you so much for the animated and

informative PowerPoint presentation, and for the red envelopes for the

children. Students loved creating their lucky spring cards to take home and

    hang on their walls.

    We appreciate all your support!

    -Room 2 Teachers

    Dear Room 4 Parents,

So far its been a great year! We really appreciate the support

and encouragement that you all constantly show us. February has

been an exciting month. Aside from all the projects and activities that

we did, the children made Valentines Day cards for the children in the

Childrens Hospital in Oakland. We hope the children there will enjoy

    them!

Spring is approaching and we are all looking forward to the lovely

    warm weather.

    Thank you,
