Sunday, March 298:00 AM - 9:30 AMLoss of Household Services: A Methodology for Establishing Probable WorthRobert J. Pare’, MS, CRC, LRC, CDMS, FVE This litigation topic is not new to our profession. However, its use by additional experts (in addition to that of economists) has been historically limited while having the potential of being promoted and utilized to a significantly increased extent. The “functional” premise of pre and post scenarios here as pertains to evaluees is no different than that for which we are extensively trained as vocational, medical, and rehabilitation professionals. This session is geared for both new and seasoned experts on the topic who either intend to, or do, construct HHS evaluations; it is also useful to critique HHS evaluations done by others. Segments of several assessment reports used in litigation by the presenter will be shared based upon a timeline methodology that he has developed and used. The reliance upon established references (typical questionnaires,

ATUS-the American Time Use Study, and DVD-the Dollar Value of a Day) is presented along with their insertion into Excel Spreadsheet format to arrive at progressive and cumulative values over one’s life expectancy and worklife. Attendee participation is encouraged, and alternate methodologies or resources used by others will be shared for comparative and educative purposes. (Disclaimer: This presentation of methodology stops short of reducing to Present Value, inflation considerations, etc. which are areas suitably addressed by an Economist expert thereafter).Available CEUs: 2.25 ABVE, 1.5 Other & Available CE Hours

Participants will also learn how to select and manage employees.Available CEUs: 2.25 ABVE, 1.5 Other & Available CE Hours

9:30 AM - 10:45 AMEmotional Support Puppies, Peacocks, & Tarantulas; Oh, My! The Rehabilitation Professional’s Legal, Ethical, and Clinical Guide to Emotional Support AnimalsAaron Norton, LMHC, LMFT, MCAP, CRCEmotional Support Animals (ESAs) are increasingly popular, and mental health professionals are receiving requests from clients (and non-clients) for documentation that can be used to obtain ESA

designation for pets, yet few counselors have been trained to assess the need for ESAs. Assessment of the need for ESAs requires knowledge of disability, the role of ESAs in symptom reduction and quality of life, the difference between ESAs and service animals, ethical considerations for recommendation of ESAs, contraindications for ESAs, and the law and ESAs.
