AzMERIT STATE TESTING We will begin our computerized AzMerit State Testing on Tuesday, March 24th (through April 24th). Because of the computer portion, testing will be spread out over a longer time frame. You will be notified of your child’s testing date via Blackboard messaging. Please make sure we have your current email address and phone number on file. Testing will be completed in one of our computer labs. Your child will be reminded to report directly to his/her testing lab for first period on the day of testing. Please ensure your child is on time each testing day. Research shows that a good night’s rest and a balanced breakfast help students perform better throughout their day. I hope that each student will make an effort to prepare for the test and do his/her personal best.

Pre-Registration packets for NEXT year will be sent home with ALL current 7th and 8th graders on March 23rd. Please watch for it, complete the entire packet, and return to school in a timely matter (NO LATER than May 1st). We must have a completed packet from EVERY student who will be attending Thunderbolt or Lake Havasu High School next year. When filling out the packet, please follow the instructions on the cover page and be sure to include current proof of Arizona residency that MATCHES your current address. The proof of residency must be in the name of the parent or legal guardian. It cannot be from a grandparent, unmarried step parent, sibling, etc. The document must be one of the items listed on the gold form. Insurance bills, medical bills, junk mail, envelopes, etc. are not acceptable. In the event you are not able to provide a document in your name, a shared residency form will need to be completed with a notary seal. These forms are available in our office. The proof of residency must be renewed each school year even if there have been no changes according to State Law. The auditors are watching. Registration will not be complete without a completed packet and class schedules will be withheld. If your student will not be attending Thunderbolt or LHHS next year, please write on the packet indicating where your child will be attending and return the entire packet to the Thunderbolt office or call us at 854-7224.

TAX CREDIT The Tax Credit Program Keeps Tax Dollars in Havasu

It’s not too late to donate to the school tax credit program. The tax credit deadline is April 15th. When you make a tax credit donation, you get a DOLLAR for DOLLAR subtraction from your State Income Tax and your tax dollars stay in Havasu at the school of your choice and for the program of your choice. You may donate up to $200 if you are single or up to $400 if you are married and get the tax credit. Save your receipt for tax time and it may either reduce the amount you owe or increase your refund, depending on your personal circumstances. You don’t have to have a student in order to donate. This is available for any tax payer in the state of Arizona. Pay on-line at www.lhusd.org or payments can be made in the Thunderbolt office by cash or check. Call Laura Miller at 928-854-7224 for more information.

The Thunderbolt FOR Club (Friends of Rachel) is in need of volunteers to help paint inspirational quotes on our stairs. We will be tackling this project on Friday, March 13th (early release day). We plan on painting from 1:30-5:00pm. We need at least 4 adult volunteers.

If you are available we hope you will consider helping us spread words of kindness on our campus. Please contact Sue at 854-7224 or [email protected]. Thank you for your consideration! P.S. We only have ONE volunteer so far.

With warmer weather approaching, we will soon be seeing signs of scorpion weed blooming. Please be aware of this plant. It has dark green leaves with a dark purple bloom. The name scorpion weed comes from the small hair-like projections on the stalk. Watch for a local itchy rash similar to poison oak or ivy, usually on hands, legs, and feet. The rash from scorpion weed can last from a few days to over a week, and does not have a specific treatment. Calamine lotion and Benadryl are common to use for this rash. Aloe Vera lotion can lessen the pain and itchiness as well as help the healing process. Isolating the rash and frequently washing hands is a great way to prevent spreading the rash over more parts of the body.
