A Message from the President

Page 2

Dear Fellow CCR Members,

I hope everyone is saving Easter Bunnies for the Children's Hospital. April 13th will be here before

you know it. This is a great event for a special cause for the thousands of children's hearts it touches

and joy it brings to each family. I am proud to be part of this wonderful venture and hope you will

be, too. Clean up your corvettes and join us as Cecile and Ed Custer leads us to The Children's Hos-

pital. Help us reach our goal of 50 corvettes participating. If you want to join us and have never

done this before, ask any club member or officer for help. Years ago, I did just that.

Special thanks to the ladies, Gayle, Janie, Peggy and Val for a great Valetine's Brunch. The Mur-

mans also made this wonderful gathering possible.

March is here, and I can see sun and warm weather coming. We would like to see new members

O.D. Events, we can and will assist if needed.

Our next meeting will be March 8, 2019, 7:30 pm at The Markel Corporation in theWest End, 4521

Highwood Parkway, Glen Allen, VA 23060. The After Meeting Social will be at Golden Corral at

Gaskins Road and Broad Street with the cost being $10.00 per person.

With colds and flu making its rounds and me getting over pneumonia, I am excited and ready for the

next meeting. Thanks to our sponsors Zip Products and Heritage, I got all my needed parts to put my

corvette back together.

Call me at 804-356-8731 or email me at [email protected] if you need or have any

questions or concerns.

Best Wishes and Remember to Save the Wave. Life is a highway, and I am looking forward to driv-

ing my corvettes with my friends.

Your CCR Friend,

Bubba Carr

Revs & Rumbles @ the NCM by Barry Roper, NCM Ambassador / Lifetime Member #2415

Chevrolet recently introduced a 2019 Corvette special edition Grand Sport series of models designed in collaboration with the Corvette Racing team. This Drivers Series features four versions with a specific exterior color and graphics inspired by drivers Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen, and Antonio Garcia. These distinctive Grand Sport Corvettes are offered in 1LT, 2LT,

From left to right in the photograph, the car descriptions with their drivers standing alongside are as follows:

- Oliver Gavin Edition: Shadow Gray exterior with Torch Red cen-ter stripe and Torch Red hash marks, Carbon Flash mirrors, black wheels with red stripe, red brake calipers, and an Adrenaline Red in-terior with red seat belts.

- Jan Magnussen Edition: Arctic White exterior with Crystal Red stripes and gray hash marks, body-color mirrors, black wheels with red stripe, red brake calipers, and a Jet Black interior with red seat belts and red stitching on the 3LT trim level.

- Tommy Milner Edition: Elkhart Lake Blue exterior with silver stripes and red hash marks, body-color mirrors, black wheels with red stripe, red brake calipers, and a Jet Black Suede interior (leather seats on 1LT) with red seat belts.

- Antonio Garcia Edition: Racing Yellow exterior with "Jake" stinger stripe, red hash marks, Carbon Flash mirrors, black wheels with red stripe, red brake calipers, and a Jet Black interior with yellow stitching on the 3LT trim.

Each edition receives a driver-specific interior plaque and other unique trim details. All models with the 3LT trim include carbon fiber interior trim. Individuals purchasing these Corvettes can select the version of their favorite Corvette Racing driver or simply choose the one with the color and graphics that most appeals to them.

Similar to the Corvette Racing C7.R race cars, the Grand Sport-based Drivers Series models feature a naturally aspirated V-8 en-gine. The 6.2L LT1 engine is rated at 460 horsepower (343 kW) and also features a dry-sump oiling system designed to support high-performance track driving.

Additional features are wide fenders and rear quarter panels that ac-commodate large 19x10" front and 20x12" rear wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport run-flat summer-only tires, functional brake ducts, an enhanced cooling package, and Brembo brakes with 14.6" rotors.

Becoming a Member of the CCR

In 1960, a small group of Corvette enthusiasts began to gather on a regular basis for fun and fellowship.

The first official meeting took place in July 1961. CCR is the oldest Corvette club in Virginia with a mem-

bership approaching 400.

To be eligible for regular membership, you must be a person of good character and own a Corvette.

You must attend at least one meeting or event. If you don’t own a Corvette, an “associate member-

ship” is available. Associates can participate in all events and functions but have no voting rights. You’ll

make good friends, have fun and learn more about Corvettes. Club meetings are at 7:30 p.m. on the

second Friday of each month. After the meetings, there is a social where you can enjoy socializing with

other club members.

Annual dues are $25 for pilots or $35 for both the pilot and co-pilot (includes spouse or significant

other). A membership application can be found on the CCR website:

Page 10

On Sunday, March 17, 2019, Sue Ann Bickert is opening her

home at 248 Chessington Rd., Richmond, VA, 23236, so Ce-

cile Custer can teach us to make easy plush bunnies for the

patients of Children’s Hospital. You can search “Easy Knitted

Bunnies” on Pinterst to see what we will be making.

We already have 60-70 knitted squares that someone has

made for us and squares of fleece to turn into bunnies we

just need the women power to accomplish this. All you need

to bring are scissors, a thimble (if you use one) and any left-

over batting you have. Don’t sew? Still join us. We need peo-

ple to stuff the bunnies, to make pom-pom tails and bag the

Parade of Corvettes at 1:15 PM

Page 11

Each spring the Corvette Club of Richmond collects stuffed bunnies for patients at Children’s Hospital. The bunnies are delivered in style as a parade of beautiful Corvettes arrives at the front entrance of Children’s Hospital. The goal is for every child who receives services at the hospital throughout the year to have their own bunny to help them through their treatment. Help us put smiles on their faces with a cuddly friend. The

public is invited to enjoy the parade.

You can help by donating new plush bunnies of any size. They need to be in a plastic bag. For

additional information or to make a donation contact CCR member Cecile Custer at (804) 338-

19th Annual CCR Crab Cruise

Saturday, April 20, 2019 ODs: Lori & Dave Dolan

Are you ready for our cruise to Capt. Billy's Crabhouse in Popes Creek, MD on April 20? DETAILS: We’ll meet at 1:15 pm behind the Burger King at 9178 Chamberlayne Road (Route 301) & Atlee Station Road. We’ll take roll, sell some 50/50 tickets, have a brief drivers’ meet-ing and depart at 1:30. Since this is a rain or shine event, if the weather is bad or you’re bringing guests, feel free to drive your

OTC (Other Than Corvette). OTCs are fine…they just have to be at the back of our caravan!! Don’t forget your nametags and, if you’ve got a Club Radio, bring it.

Our caravan is fun and easy! From your side win-dows you'll see gorgeous spring scenery and, with about 35 Vettes in our caravan, the views in front and/or in back of you will be GREAT! The drive is pretty short (an hour and 15 minutes) so we won't stop at Hornes on the way up, but we will pick up Vettes from the Northern Neck Corvette Club there. On our way home some of us finish the event by stopping at Hornes in Port Royal for ice cream

and to check out their merchandise. Our reservation is for 75 but if we have a bigger crowd, no problem--Capt. Billy's can handle it! So, if you’re free and interested, please sign up for this event or call us (H - 346-5266 or C – 640-9338).

This should be on your Bucket List for 2019!
