FLEXCAREThe FLEXCARE project addssignificant value to the EU FP7 FLEX(http://www.flex-project.eu/) project, byproviding highly relevant newcapabilities to experimenters in the fieldof LTE research and beyond (5G). Itis addressing the following twoobjectives:

1. Testbed extensions to the FLEXinfrastructure by using AdvancedOpen LTE interfaces, that will bemade interoperable with theexisting FIRE control andmanagement tools adopted byFLEX and

2. Testbed software enhancements,by means of building tools forsupporting experimentation withthe LTE equipment, which will befully integrated with the existingtools.

FLEXCARE aims at extending the

FLEX infrastructure with a new LTEtestbed facility, namely the FUSECOPlayground testbed. This allowssignificant extension and enhancementof the FLEX project infrastructureallowing for new possibilities of mobilebroadband (2G, 3G, LTE, WiFi)experiments.Furthermore, FLEXCARE adds newcapabilities supporting 5G researchwithin Network Function Virtualization(NFV) and Software DefinedNetworking (SDN). These capabilitiesare realized through ourOpenSDNCore and Open5GCoretoolkits that will allow to instantiateorchestrated LTE functions (e.g. PDN-GW, S-GW, MME) virtualized andsoftware-based as well as to separatethe control plane from the user planeusing the OpenFlow technology. The major goal of the integration of theFUSECO Playground into the FLEXarchitecture is to provide remoteaccess to these resources and servicesto FLEX experimenters. The FUSECOPlayground is powered by the FITeagletoolkit which is developed by TUB, whois also leading and participating in thestandardization efforts for the nextGENI/FIRE APIs and resourcedescriptions.

FIESTA Kickoff Meeting atFraunhofer FOKUS Fraunhofer hosted the FIESTA kickoffmeeting in Berlin on February 12th and

13th. With 14 partners, the projectaims to provide an experimentalinfrastructure for enabling IoTtestbed/platforms operators tointerconnect their facilities in an

interoperable way based on theEuropean FIRE testbeds. Furthermore,FIESTA is going to facilitateresearchers and solution providers todesign and deploy large scaleintegrated applications that transcendthe (silo) boundaries of individual IoTplatforms or testbeds. The OpenMTCteam at FOKUS is going to bring theOpenMTC into such federatedinfrastructure as an integral element ofthe FUSECO Playground.

OpenMTC and OpenIoTInterconnection The OpenMTC team hasinterconnected the OpenMTC backendplatform with the OpenIoT platform.Based on OpenMTC open APIs, theintegration enables the OpenIoTapplications to access the OpenMTCdatasets in a flexible and seamlessway. The OpenMTC is in charge of enddevice management, data handling andconnectivity management. It alsomanages the data aggregation from thesensors and actuators. The OpenIoTannotates the data and links thecollected data to other data streams, offering dynamic discovery andmeshed up mechanisms. The linkbetween various data streams can bebrowsed here: http://graphofthings.org
