PASA X PAC MIXER

MEMBER’S RETREATA time for current PASA members, old and new, to come together and kick off the semester! Hosted by our awesome Social Chair, LJ Hernandez, this

spring’s member’s retreat took place February twenty-fourth, with members eager for food and fun. It’s not every day you get to play meet & greet with a family as big as ours so member’s retreat is a special time to get out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there. Fear not though, kaibigan, there is still plenty of the semester left to reach out to your fellow members and to get to know everyone, and maybe meet others whom you haven’t had the chance, or courage, to say hey to! I hope everyone who went had a great time & be sure to come out to future socials. GREAT JOB LJ & EVERYONE INVOLVED ! ~

From rivalry to mixers, we joined forces with Long Beach’s PAC, Saturday, March sixth, thanks to our bombie EVP, Lauren Navarro. Half the fun of being a part of a club in college is linking up with the sister clubs on other campuses, where we can share mad love for an awesome culture. With toes in the sand and a bonfire after sunset PASA & PAC enjoyed a day in the sun with good company and great food. Great job putting together such an awesome mixer Lauren! Keep an eye out for up and coming external events, kaibigan, you won’t want to miss the next one! ~

HISTORIC FILIPINO TOWN

"Located in Historic, Unidad or “Unity” park is an important landmark. Its origin dates back to the 1970’s when grassroots organization met here to help strengthen the Filipino community. Guided by the group Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA), the Candy Chuateco Community Garden took root here in 1993. !In 2007, the park received other improvements that you see today. Inspired by the Filipino culture, the circular seating area, a dap-ay, gathers people together. The slopes of the community garden are reminiscent of rice terraces in the Philippines. The park is also home to Eliseo Art Silva’s iconic mural “Gitong Kasaysayan, Gintong Pamana” (A Glorious History, A Glorious Legacy), the largest mural in America depicting Filipino images.” !-Historic Filipino Town

PASA headed to LA for the day with CACC, Mocha Pantaleon in the lead. February twenty-eighth dawned beautiful blue, cloudy skies as PASA explored Historic Filipino Town and admired the awe-inspiring mural that resided there. !Day’s like this remind us of the heritage we celebrate in the name of this club. We look back and thank our ancestors for all that they have accomplished and look to them for the inspiration to be just as progressive. Being in this club is more than just being social but being able to appreciate what it is to be Pilipino. !Great job, Mocha, for helping us to get to know our history better through a great day of adventure. Don’t let your hunger for knowledge die, Kaibigan. Continue to learn more throughout the semester about what it is to be Pilipino. Let’s talk about it! ~ !!

The Alliance JUSTINE BRINGMANN!

SPRING ’15 ACADEMIC CHAIR!AKA is about to go down, how do you feel?!I am super excited right now! The location actually changed last minute so I had to adjust to that but I feel comfortable & ready for everything.!!Why do you feel passionate about AKA?!I feel really passionate about AKA because my relationship with my family at home is so strong. Especially with my ate, she’s amazing and made me feel really welcome to PASA & I wanted to give that back to everyone and help them to create bonds they never would have expected. I wanted to give them someone that would look after them and be there if they ever needed help with anything.!!Do you have any advice for new Adings? What to expect?!Expect friendly people. It can be really overwhelming at first and scary and you might not know everyone’s name because some families are really huge,

but I would just except to be loved and welcomed. Maybe some advice; don’t be afraid to be yourself. Everyone kind of puts up a front sometimes, they think they have to act cool, not that you aren’t already cool ! Just don't be afraid to be yourself. People in PASA care about you, it’s nothing superficial. It’s really genuine relationships that you should be looking for.

Gabby, her ading Geoff, & Grand Sara

Great job Justine ! AKA was a great success! Thanks to everyone who helped us get to the other side of the rainbow. ~
