The History of St. Patrick’s Day
By Hayley Faulkner
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17th, the Saint’s religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christians season of Lent, Irish families would attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. They would eat meat, dance, drink, and dine on a traditional feast of Irish bacon, corned beef, and cabbage. P.S. Remember to wear GREEN! J

Huge Snowball Fight
By Noah Garrett
On Jan. 12, 2013, Seattle, Washington, nicknamed the “Rain City”, held the world’s largest snowball fight. More than 5,800 people showed up to join the fun. In order to achieve this, trucks hauled 34 loads of snow form Snoqualmie Pass (ironic how its first three letters are “sno”) about an hour from the city. It took 162,000 lbs. of white stuff to cover the city. The goal of the event was to break the Guinness World Record for biggest snowball fight. The event, dubbed “Snow Day”, was also a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of King County. Businessman, Neil Bergquist planned three months to make the event possible. A whopping 6,000 tickets were sold online. The town had a total of 5,834 people attend, shattering the previous record in South Korea which was 5,400. So the record was beat by 434 people. So I bet that all people who went had a great time. I would have if I had to assault people with snowballs!

By Phillip Koerner Les Miserables
Les Miserables is the story of Jean Valjean (pronounced
John Valjon), a peasant who was sent to prison for 19 years just for stealing a loaf of bread. He is released but breaks his parole to start a life to help others. Eight years pass and Valjean is the "mayor" of a little town outside of Paris, France when he discovers Fantine, a woman who will do anything to support her daughter Cossette. At Fantine's deathbed, Valjean promises to protect Cossette forever for Fantine. Valjean gets Cossette from an innkeeper and his wife. While fleeing to Paris, Valjean is discovered by Inspector Javert, the man who released him from prison years ago. Nine years later in Paris, Valjean has a quiet life until political hero General Lamarque, the only man who supports the peasants, dies. Several students led by Enjorlas and Marius protest the government and encourage the people to rebel. What happens next? Find out in Les Miserables! I personally have had the chance to see both the movie in theaters and the play at Cadillac Palace in Chicago. They both were amazing to see and I encourage you to see the movie.
Warm Bodies By Maura Orvis
Warm Bodies is a funny movie about a subconscious zombie who falls in love with a human. It is also a cute love story that involves action, comedy, love, and of course…ZOMBIES. This movie crawled into theatres Feb. 1, 2013 , and has been adored by many teens across the nation.
This movie brings together in perfect harmony love, heart -break, comedy, and laughs. It is such a funny movies that I fell off my seat laughing! Madeline Ellexson said, “This is super funny. I can’t breath I am laughing so hard!” Another student, Kayla Koontz, said, “It was so sad and heart warming at the same time!” This movie is one of the best movies out there right now, but it won’t be in theatres for long so you better get your ticket and go see it today!

Dead Is…
By Hayley Faulkner
The book I’m going to talk about is not normal. In fact, it’s paranormal. The one I’m talking about is the Dead Is… series. It’s a whole bunch of amazing books.
1. Dead Is….The New Black 5. Dead Is…Not An Option 2. Dead Is…A State of Mind 6. Dead Is…A Battlefield 3. Dead Is…So Last Year 7. Dead Is…A Killer Tune 4. Dead Is…Just a Rumor
Now the series is weird. It is full of mystical creatures and sorts, but the 6th and 7th are the same thing but instead of Daisy (the main character of the first 5), it’s Jessica Walsh, a freshman at Nightshade High and Daisy’s best friend’s boy friend’s sister. It’s kind of confusing, but you’ll get it when you read it. My favorite book is #4. It is full of black mail and surprises and more. I’d tell you more but you’re going to have to read it!
