The second KF Gallery Open Stage event is a performance by Ola
Viola Sound, Korea’s one and only viola ensemble. This classical music
performance group has been very active at home and abroad since its
formation in 1999. For this concert, it is offering a full range of genres,
from the works of classical composers like Bach and Shostakovich
to popular music selections from jazz to pop, all reinterpreted with
the distinctive sounds of the viola. In particular, the audience will be
interested to hear how the beautiful songs of the Beatles are rendered
on this instrument.
KF Gallery Open Stage 의 두 번째 무대로 국내 유일의 비올라 앙상블 ‘올라 비올라
사운드’가 공연을 선보입니다. 올라 비올라 사운드는 1999년에 창단되어 국내외에
서 활발히 활동 중인 클래식 연주단체입니다. 이번 공연에서는 바흐, 쇼스타코비치
등 고전 음악가들의 곡부터 재즈, 팝 등 대중음악까지 다양한 장르가 비올라 특유의
음색으로 펼쳐집니다. 특히 비틀즈의 곡들이 비올라를 통해 어떻게 연주되는지 기
대하시기 바랍니다.

This exhibition looks at the origins of Northern European design,
which is characterized by understated and everyday elements, with
a harmony between the functional and the beautiful. More than
just presenting examples of design products, the exhibition features
the essential aspects of design and how it plays different roles in our
everyday lives, including our natural environment, our homes, and the
public realm. From a selection of furniture by the region’s top designers
to experimental animation by up-and-coming younger designers, it
highlights a range of work from designers, artists, and craftsmen that
breaks down the barriers separating them. There will also be an archive
center of books of music, providing an open space where visitors can
not only enjoy the art but experience it themselves. And with artwork
presented outside the venue on the plaza in front of the Mirae Asset
CENTER 1 building, citizens can also enjoy Nordic design as they pass by.
간결하고 일상적이면서도 기능적이고 미적인 조화를 이루는 북유럽 디자인의 출발
점을 모색하는 전시입니다. 단순히 디자인 제품을 나열하는 것이 아니라, 우리를 둘
러싼 자연환경, 주거지, 공공영역 등 일상생활에서 다양한 역할을 하는 디자인의 본
질적 측면을 살펴보고자 합니다. 북유럽을 대표하는 디자인 거장의 가구 셀렉션에
서부터 젊은 디자이너의 실험적 애니메이션에 이르기까지, 디자이너, 예술가, 공예
가들의 다양한 작품들이 서로 간 경계를 허물며 전시됩니다. 또한 책과 음악으로 구
성된 아카이브 센터는 단순히 감상을 하는 공간이 아닌, 관람객이 직접 머물고 체험
하는 열린 공간으로 선보일 예정입니다. 전시장 밖 미래에셋 센터원 건물 앞 광장에
까지 조형물을 설치하여, 거리를 오가는 시민들도 전시를 함께 즐길 수 있게 하였습
니다.

A very special performance has been arranged for the Korea Foundation’s
2012 Spring Concert. Stephan Barratt-Due has made a name for himself
as artistic director for the Barratt Due Institute of Music, Norway’s top
institution for music education, as well as a violinist and conductor. Now,
he is performing in Korea in a duo with his musical colleague and wife,
violist Chung Soon-mi. Accompanying them on stage is pianist Park Jong-
hwa, who has earned many fans and established an active performing
career in his own right. We hope you will show your support, as always,
by joining us for this event.
The Korea Foundation has joined forces with the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai to stage the Nostalgia, East
Asia Contemporary Art Exhibition from Feb. 18 to May 1. This exhibition, which got off to a grand start on Feb. 17 with
an opening ceremony attended by more than 700 people, features a total of 120 pieces from 14 leading artists of Korea,
China, and Japan, including JUNG Yeondoo, QIU Anxiong, and IDEMITSU Mako. An academic forum the following day
brought together those artists plus other contemporary Chinese critics and curators for a spirited discussion on the role
artists play in solving environmental and social issues in a rapidly changing East Asia.
올해 한국국제교류재단 봄 정기음악회는 아주 특별한 공연으로 준비했습니다. 노
르웨이 최고의 음악교육기관 바라트 듀 음악원의 예술감독이자 바이올리니스트,
지휘자로 명망을 쌓아 온 스테판 바라트 듀가 그의 음악적 동반자이자 아내인 비
올리스트 정순미와 함께 듀오 콘서트를 선사합니다. 또한, 많은 팬을 확보하고 활
발한 연주활동을 펼치고 있는 피아니스트 박종화와의 협연무대도 펼쳐질 예정입니
다. 여러분의 많은 관심과 성원 바랍니다.
한국국제교류재단은 중국 상하이 당대미술관과 공동으로 2월 18일부터 5월 1일까
지 《그리움, 동아시아 현대미술전》을 개최합니다. 지난 2월 17일, 700여 명이 참
석한 가운데 성대한 개막을 올린 이번 전시에는 정연두, 츄안슝, 이데미츠 마코 등
한국과 중국, 일본을 대표하는 작가 14명의 작품 120점이 출품되었습니다. 개막
이튿날 열린 학술회의에는 참여 작가들, 중국을 대표하는 평론가들, 큐레이터들이
참석하여, 급변하는 동아시아 사회에서 환경, 사회문제를 해결하기 위한 작가들의
역할에 대해 열띤 토론을 펼쳤습니다.

Nostalgia, East Asia Contemporary Art Exhibition
문화를 통해 들여다본 서울의 역사 Seoul through a Cultural Lens
한국국제교류재단 문화센터 세미나실 대관 사업 Seminar Rooms of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center
Located in the heart of the Korean Peninsula, Seoul has been the
capital city for nearly 600 years since the beginning of the Joseon
era. This lecture looks at the city’s history and culture from its time
as Gyeongseong to the devastation of war, a showcase for modern
civilization with its economic development, and its current status as a
world megacity. The event is set to include talks and tours on various
themes in culture, art, architectural structures, and daily life, including
introductions to trendy culture and art sites by curators, noteworthy
modern and contemporary architecture as explained by architects, and
entertaining accounts of the origins of place names and foods from
relevant experts.
The Korea Foundation Cultural Center offers seminar room space free of
charge for organizations wishing to hold seminars, workshops, lectures,
forums, and other events to promote understanding between Koreans
and people from overseas.
Events held in the Cultural Center seminar room in February included
an education course for the third class of the Global Citizens School of
the International Youth Center for Cooperation, a New Year’s roundtable
by the Korea-Japan Future Forum, and a welcoming ceremony for the
fourth class of members of Wooriwa, the International Exchange Forum
for Korean University Students.
조선시대부터 약 600년간 수도의 자리를 지켜온 한반도의 중심지 서울! 근대문물의
전시장 경성에서 전쟁의 폐허가 되기까지, 다시 경제발전을 이루고 세계적 메가시티
가 되기까지 서울의 역사와 문화를 살펴봅니다. 큐레이터가 소개하는 서울의 문화예
술 명소, 건축가가 설명해주는 주목할 만한 근현대 건축물들, 지명과 음식의 유래에
관한 전문가의 재미있는 해설 등 문화, 예술, 건축, 생활 등의 다양한 주제로 강의와
답사가 펼쳐집니다.
한국국제교류재단 문화센터에서는 해외 각국과 우리 국민의 상호 이해를 위한 세미
나, 워크숍, 강연, 포럼 등을 개최하고자 하는 기관을 위해 세미나실을 무료로 대관
하여 드립니다.
2월에는 문화센터 세미나실에서 국제청소년협력기구의 세계시민학교 청소년3기
교육, 한일미래포럼의 신춘좌담회, 한국대학생국제교류포럼 ‘우리와’ 4기 발대식 등
의 행사가 진행되었습니다.

초심으로 돌아가는 자리, 제7회 자원봉사자대회 Rediscovering the Beginner’s Mind: The 7th Volunteers Convention지난 1월 14일 한국국제교류재단 문화센터 세미나실에서 제7회 자원봉사자대회가
개최되었습니다. 차두현 한국국제교류재단 교류협력이사의 축사로 시작된 이번 행
사에는 40여 명의 자원봉사자가 참석하여 자리를 빛내주었습니다. 국제교류자원봉
사망의 전체 운영보고와 각 팀의 활동 보고 후 공로상과 우수 봉사자 시상이 있었습
니다. 이어서 모든 봉사자들의 축하 속에 한국어교실에서 집필한 “열린 한국어”의
출판 기념식이 진행되었습니다. 정기총회에서는 회칙이 일부 개정되었고 봉사자들
의 투표를 거쳐 2012년을 이끌어나갈 회장단으로 신재섭 회장과 황재하 부회장이
선출되었습니다. 처음으로 대회에 참가한 한효정 씨는 ‘오늘 행사를 통해 봉사활동
의 초심으로 돌아갈 수 있었다’고 소감을 전해주었습니다.

한국문화교실 Korean Culture Class
The 7th Volunteers Convention was held on Jan. 14 in the seminar
room of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center. Kicking off with a
celebratory address by KF Executive Vice President Cha Du-Hyeon, the
event was graced with the presence of around 40 volunteers. Following
a general operational report for the KF Volunteer Network, along with
reports on the activities of its different teams, a ceremony was held to
present achievement awards and recognize outstanding volunteers.
This was followed by a ceremony in which all the volunteers celebrated
the publication of Yeollin Korean, a textbook series authored by the
instructors of the Korean Language Class. The regular general meeting
saw the partial amendment of the organization’s bylaws and a vote by
volunteers to elect Shin Jae-sup and Hwang Jae-ha as president and vice-
president, respectively. Attending the event for the fi rst time this year,
Han Hyo-jung said the event allowed her to “return to the mind of a
beginner in volunteering.”

행사팀과 교육홍보팀으로 분리되었습니다.
Kim Hyo-eun (Team Leader): It was split into the Planning & Events Team and the Education & Publicity Team in January 2012.
김효은 팀장 교육홍보팀은 소양교육과 뉴스레터
제작, 대내외 홍보활동을 활발히 할 예정입니다.
Kim: The Education & Publicity Team will be working hard on training, developing the newsletter, and promoting our efforts domestically and overseas.
김효은 팀장 ‘아이스 브레이킹’을 통해 봉사자들 사이에
친밀감을 형성하고, 더욱 재미있는 활동으로 많은 사람
들에게 자원봉사망을 알리는 것이 올해 목표입니다.
Kim: Our goal is to promote a sense of closeness among our volunteers through icebreaking activities and to increase people’s awareness of the Volunteer Network through more enjoyable activities.
황재하 팀장 더 다양한 행사들을 기획하여 여러 분야의
사람들이 참여할 수 있도록 노력하겠습니다.
Hwang: We plan to work on encouraging participation by people from different areas by organizing a more diverse range of events.
김효은 팀장 더욱 다양한 기획행사와 소양교육
및 대외 홍보활동에 집중하고자 분리되었습니다.
Kim: It was done so that the new teams could focus on offering a greater variety of events, training, and external publicity.
황재하 팀장 기획행사팀은 ‘한국에서 만난 세계’ 행사
를 확대하고 각종 기획행사들을 진행할 예정입니다.
Hwang Jae-ha (Team Leader): The Planning & Events Team will be expanding its “Meeting the World in Korea” event, and organizing a lot of other events as well.
기획홍보팀이 ‘기획행사팀’과 ‘교육홍보팀’으로 분리된 사연을 SNS를 통해 각 팀장님들에게 직접 들어봤습니다.

KF Gallery Open Stage 1
전통을 만나다 Encountering Tradition
Fifteen leading Spanish photographers paint a picture of Spain’s modern
and contemporary history in the exhibition, Photo by Photo. A Portrait
of Spain, which is taking place between Feb. 10 and Mar. 8. Including a
conversation with photographer Ángel Marcos, who visited Korea for
the exhibition, as well as four education programs sharing different
aspects of Spanish culture (including special talks on the pilgrimage
destination Santiago de Compostela, a topic of major attention in recent
years, and the traditional fl amenco dance), this exhibition provided an
opportunity to share the excellence of Spanish culture with visitors.
The fi rst KF Gallery Open Stage performance of 2012 was “Encountering
Tradition,” held in the KF Cultural Center Gallery at 7 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Starting off with a lively performance by the Hwa Dong Royal Court
Performance Association, it offered the audience an introduction to
northern India’s classical Kathak dance, followed by a performance by
the Korean Traditional Music Players, or Jeong Ga Ak Hoe. We warmly
thank everyone who came out in the icy weather to attend the event.
스페인을 대표하는 사진작가 15명이 스페인의 근현대사를 사진으로 담아낸 《사진
에서 사진으로. 스페인의 자화상》 전시가 2월 10일에 개막되어 이달 3월 8일까지
계속됩니다. 이번 전시를 위해 내한한 사진작가 앙헬 마르코스의 ‘작가와의 대화’를
비롯, 최근 주목 받고 있는 여행지인 순례자의 길 산티아고에서 스페인 전통춤 플
라멩코까지 스페인 문화의 다양한 모습을 접할 수 있는 특강 등 총 4회의 교육 프
로그램이 마련되어, 관람객들에게 스페인 문화의 우수성을 알렸습니다.
2012년 KF Gallery Open Stage의 첫 공연이 2월 2일 저녁 7시, 재단 문화센터 갤
러리에서 ‘전통을 만나다’라는 주제로 펼쳐졌습니다. 화동정재예술단의 귀여운 몸짓
을 시작으로, 북인도 전통무용인 까탁댄스와 국악단체 정가악회의 무대까지 관객들
에게 다양한 볼거리를 선사했습니다. 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 많이 참석해주신 관
객 여러분께 감사 말씀 드립니다.
