HISTORY OF A MOUNTAIN QUILTFEST

25 YEARS AND GROWING! In 1992 two local quilt guilds, the Piecemakers and the Sevier Valley Quilters, came together to host their first quilt show in the basement of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon Forge. In 1994 Bob Easton, then Director of Special Events for the City of Pigeon Forge, asked the guilds if they would co-host a quilt show with Pigeon Forge. The two guilds agreed and on March 24, 1995, the first A Mountain Quiltfest was held at the Holiday Inn in Pigeon Forge. There were a few local vendors, around 150 quilts and several classes offered that year. Attendance was several hundred people.Over the years, A Mountain Quiltfest evolved rapidly; outgrowing numerous venues throughout Pigeon Forge. A Mountain Quiltfest has now found a permanent home in the prestigious LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge.

This state-of-the-art event center provides over 232,000 square feet of exhibition and classroom space to house our quilt show, vendors, classrooms, lecture areas and even a dining area – all under one roof !With our move to the LeConte Center in 2014 we have expanded our quilt categories to 18; (19 this year with the return of the Mountain Heritage category); increased our number of vendors substantially; expanded our prizes from 39 to 58 (this year 60); boosted our prize monies to over $20,000; and displayed over 700 quilts in 2018. It’s fair to say, Pigeon Forge has become the home of one of the largest quilt shows in the Southeast, and we owe much of our success to YOU, our patrons.

IT IS WITH EXTREME PLEASURE THAT WE WELCOME YOU TO OUR 25TH SILVER ANNIVERSARY A MOUNTAIN QUILTFEST!

PLEASE ENJOY THE SHOW!

In the 25-year history of A Mountain Quiltfest, numerous honors and praise has been showered upon the City of Pigeon Forge and the event. Whether it’s connecting people to the timeless art of quilting or providing genuine and quality classes for quilters of all skill levels, A Mountain Quiltfest features activities the entire family can enjoy. The Pigeon Forge Office of Special Events staff and the Piecemakers and Sevier Valley Quilters guilds go to great lengths to not only meet but to exceed these goals. The event continues to make itself known to the international community, having won numerous awards from the International Festivals & Events Association.

A Mountain Quiltfest has won numerous international awards from IFEA through the years including awards for:

Best Overall Merchandise ProgramBest Educational Program

Best Event Program Best Community Outreach Program

Additionally, A Mountain Quiltfest has been chosen as aSoutheast Tourism Society Top 20 Festival

& Event Winner for 2019These awards are a small sampling of the recognition A Mountain Quiltfest has received from the local and international communities. As such, these awards are a great source of pride to the City of Pigeon Forge, as A Mountain Quiltfest continually competes with events from around the world for these honors.

A SPECIAL THANK YOUThe City of Pigeon Forge and A Mountain Quiltfest proudly thank both the Piecemakers and Sevier Valley Quilters guilds for 25 years of supporting the art of quilting through educational classes and a world-class quilt show experience. With a multitude of talented members, both guilds have continually stepped up to help grow the event and offer a plethora of new additions for attendees and quilters alike to enjoy. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Maria Holloway and Holloway’s Country Home. Since day 1 Maria has been involved with A Mountain Quiltfest. Through her generous sponsorship, acumen and connections in the quilting world, A Mountain Quiltfest has continued to grow and thrive as one of the most successful quilting events in the United States.

Additionally, there are many other vendors and individuals who have been involved in the growth of A Mountain Quiltfest throughout the past twenty-five years. While it is impossible to name each and every one as there are not enough words to express our deepest thanks, please know if not for each person’s impact, A Mountain Quiltfest would not be the award-winning and sucessful event it is today. In essence, each person who has been involved has helped stitch a piece of themselves into the fabric of the story of what A Mountain Quiltfest has become and continues to develop into. For that involvement, thank you and know your efforts are deeply and forever appreciated.

A S M O K Y M O U N TA I N S T I TC H I N T I M EFor the past few years local historian and storyteller, Kathy Gwinn, has been captivating our guests with her Historical Church tours as she shares some of the many stories of Sevier County’s local history. Join Kathy again for a trip down memory lane as you journey through the “back roads” of Sevier County to see how the mountain people once lived, learned, worked, worshiped and played. Discover a time when handmade quilts were an everyday staple of life to provide warmth and comfort throughout the seasons. This tour will include visits to a “dog-trot” style cabin, one of Sevier County’s covered bridges, an early school where you might even get to take part in an old-fashioned spelling bee. You will then travel on to one of the county’s grist mills, an old-style tobacco barn and of course, a House of Worship to complete the full range of life in the Smokies. Each tour will include lunch at either Bush Bean’s Museum, Café & General Store, or at a local residence where an old-fashioned, Southern lunch will be served up with a heaping measure of Southern hospitality. A self-guided tour brochure is included in each tour cost. These tours fill quickly and are limited to 25 passengers each. Secure your space NOW at mountainquiltfest.com. The self-guided tour brochure is also available for purchase.

To guarantee your classes, REGISTER EARLY. To register online go to mountainquiltfest.com and follow the instructions.

QUILT SUBMISSIONTo submit your quilt(s) to be judged in our show, visit mountainquiltfest.com and click on Guidelines for Quilt Show Entry. This guideline will describe to you the available categories for entry and provide you with an entry form for each of your submissions. There is NO LIMIT to the number of quilts that can be submitted. Please follow the instructions carefully. Quilts may be submitted in person during specified Quilt Take-In times or through the mail.

A MOUNTAIN HERITAGE CHALLENGE QUILT SUBMISSION:

“A Mountain Heritage Quiltfest Challenge” watermark form must accompany each entry (watermark form is included with each fabric packet). If your entry does not have the watermark entry form, the quilt will not be accepted into the Smoky

❖ We’ll have yard cuts of 100% cotton designer fabric, fat quarters, notions, magazines, books, patterns, kits, and so much more!!

❖ Visit daily so that you don’t miss all the newly added products.

First 100 Shoppers each day will receive a complimentary Goodie Bag.

Family Owned and Operated Since 1983 31 Willow Creek Drive Vicksburg, MS 39183 (601) 634-0243 www.stitch-n-frame.net (Visit our Newly Designed Web Site. You won’t believe the changes we’ve made!)

❖ Let us demo for you new techniques and give you tips on how to get the most out of your fabric using the Accuquilt Go! Cutter.

❖ Learn how to get accurate cuts every time and how this innovative cutting tool saves you time AND money in your cutting process.

❖ The cutting part of the quilting process is laborious and time consuming. You work hard to get the perfect cut – carefully measuring each piece, and enduring hand, arm and back strain as you cut multiple shapes.

❖ Your rotary cutter requires you to pay close attention to the blade and ruler while cutting. Any slips of either can cause inaccurate cuts and wasted fabric.

We’ll show you how to “Cut Time and Quilt MORE”!
