Exposition and Benediction Tuesday: 7:00–8:00 p.m.
Laetare Sunday Today, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, is traditionally known as Laetare Sunday. Its name is derived from the Entrance Antiphon (Introit): “Rejoice [Latin: Laetare] Jerusalem, and all who love her. Be joyful, all who were in mourning; exult and be satisfied at her consoling breast” (Isaiah 66:10–11). As roughly the midway point of Lent, Laetare Sunday is a respite from the penitential rigors of the season: rose-colored vestments may be worn, instrumental music may be played, and flowers may adorn the sanctuary. Thus, the theme of Laetare Sunday is joy. (Laetare Sunday is similar to the Third Sunday of Advent, known as Gaudete [“Rejoice”] Sunday, when rose-colored vestments may also be worn.)
The flowers adorning the altar this Laetare Sunday are given in memory of Curtis Payne Jr.

Bible Study: Pilgrim People Monday evenings or Thursday Mornings | Begins Mid-April Come along on four major pilgrimages in Scripture —the journey of trust with Abraham and Sarah, the journey of freedom with Moses and the Hebrew people, the journey of exile and return with Israel, and the journey of discipleship with Jesus and his followers. God’s call sometimes leads and sometimes sends, and the destinations can be new and wondrous or even dark and dangerous. What makes the journey a pilgrimage is God’s abiding companionship. Commentary, study and reflection questions, prayer, and access to recorded lectures are included. Pilgrim People can be purchased on Amazon or other book retailers.

Reception into Full Communion The term “reception into full communion” applies to persons who were baptized in another Christian denomination and therefore already have partial communion with the Catholic Church (through Baptism, the Scriptures, the Creed, etc.). By making a profession of faith, and by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation and, above all, the Eucharist (Holy Communion), they will have full communion with the Catholic Church. While it is common to refer to baptized Christians joining the Catholic Church as “converts,” this term is not accurate. The Catholic Church explains that the term “convert” is not to be used to designate persons who enter into full communion, as they are not converting from unbelief or from another religion; they are already Christians. The term “convert” is used exclusively for the unbaptized who are converting from unbelief to the Christian faith (National Statutes for the Catechumenate, no. 2). Reception into full communion is one three streams of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). A second stream includes unbaptized persons who are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. The third stream includes Catholics who were baptized in infancy but who were never catechized (instructed), and so never received First Holy Communion and / or Confirmation.

Purification and Enlightenment "The period of purification and enlightenment, which the rite of election begins, customarily coincides with Lent. In the liturgy and liturgical catechesis of Lent the reminder of baptism already received or the preparation for its reception, as well of the theme of repentance, renew the entire community along with those being prepared to celebrate the paschal mystery in which each of the elect will share through the sacraments of initiation. For both the elect and the local community, therefore, the Lenten season, is a time for spiritual recollection in preparation for the celebration of the pashcal mystery" (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, no.138).

"The greatness of Saint Joseph is that he was the spouse of Mary and the father of Jesus. In this way, he placed himself, in the words of Saint John Chrysostom 'at the service of the entire plan of salvation.'
Saint Paul VI pointed out that Joseph concretely expressed his fatherhood 'by making his life a sacrificial service to the mystery of the incarnation and its redemptive purpose. He employed his legal authority over the Holy Family to devote himself completely to them in his life and work. He turned his human vocation to domestic love into a superhuman oblation of himself, his heart and all his abilities, a love placed at the service of the Messiah who was growing to maturity in his home'" (Pope Francis, Patris corde, 2020).
Year of Saint Joseph
Pope Francis writes in a footnote in Patris corde, "Every day, for over forty years, following Lauds I have recited a prayer to Saint Joseph taken from a nineteenth-century French prayer book of the Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus and Mary. It expresses devotion and trust, and even poses a certain challenge to Saint Joseph:
''Glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, whose power makes the impossible possible, come to my aid in these times of anguish and difficulty. Take under your pro- tection the serious and troubling situations that I commend to you, that they may have a happy outcome. My beloved father, all my trust is in you. Let it not be said that I invoked you in vain, and since you can do everything with Jesus and Mary, show me that your goodness is as great as your power. Amen.'"
