“You should put away
the old self of your former way of life . . . and put on the new
self, created in God’s way in righteousness and holiness of truth”.
Eph 4:22, 24
Finding Our True Identity in Christ
We begin our Lenten reflections by considering our identity. Searching for our identity is part of life. We identify our “self” as a family member, spouse, sibling, carpenter, farmer, statistician, or clerk. We also identify ourselves as Catholic, or as members of a parish. Identity involves discovering who we are as persons and what our role is by answering these questions: who am I, and why am I here? Growth in the awareness of our Christian identity is a lifelong process that shifts as we change. It is rooted in Baptism, where we are transformed into our true identity as sons and daughters of the Father. St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, quoted above, challenges us to put away our former life and put on a new self. In other words, he tells us to turn from sinful ways and take on our new life in Christ. In so doing, we become one with Christ, where we find our true identity. We accept this challenge during Lent, as we journey with Christ through life’s difficulties to eternal life. Lent & Easter Reflections: Cultivating the Gift of Self By Reverend Robert J. Hater, PhD Professor Emeritus: University of Dayton and Professor of Pastoral and Systematic Theology: Athenaeum of

Your Spiritual Adopted Baby: MY MOM CAN HEAR MY HEARTBEAT! Keep praying for me! I am two months old now and about 2 inches long. Look! You can see my eyes, nose and mouth. I will use them to experience God’s world after I am born. My brain is functioning at 40 days and my mother can hear my heartbeat now on a ultrasonic stethoscope. My milk teeth buds are present at 61/2 weeks and it has been reported that I can suck my thumb. Pray that the Lord of Life might move the heart of my mother to give me the most precious gift of all—the gift of life. Come see my picture in the foyer. It is not too late to sign up to pray for an hour in front of the abortion facilities! The next Forty Days for Life Prayer Vigil Campaign begins on Ash Wednesday, March 9th. Please go to www.austincoalitionforlife.com and go to the Stand and Pray page to sign up and pray for the end of abortion in Central Texas! The St. Elizabeth Pro-Life Committee will meet on Sunday, March 13th in Room 117 of the RE Building at 3:00 PM. All parishioners are invited to attend this short meeting and become involved on some level in pro-life ministry!
