Two prongs of “religion” (that is not religious):1.Behavior which results in the most desirable consequences (like ending
suffering)A.If codified, it can be useful and can also be catastrophicB.Transformation of the individual from a person whose behavior brings
about undesirable consequences into a person whose behavior brings about the most desirable consequences
2.Explanations of encounters with the numinousA.If codified, these can be functional but can also hide realityB.Transformation of the individual from one who does not understand

A truly numinous encounter evokes…• Fear• Wonder • Curiosity• Awe
• Sheer horror
Codified paradigms are designed to prevent a person from having toexperience such liminality and fear and horror by providing “answers” which are typically wrong answers, but comforting, nonetheless.
But one’s sense-making engine/muscle cannot be nurtured or developed without those liminal experiences.
