Updated Vertical Presentations

One of the many tools used in presentations to customers are the vertical industry decks detailing QAD’s vertical expertise. From time to time however, those are updated and refreshed to provide the most up to date information for our sales teams. I am pleased to announce that the Consumer Products and Food & Beverage Vertical Presentations are updated and now on Sales Resources. In the News: Survey - Retail Landscape Transforming before Our Eyes, as Store Closings Continue at Breakneck Pace

A recent article in Supply Chain Digest discusses how the retail industry is changing at a rapid place with many retail stores closing as on-line sales are changing the marketplace. What the brick and mortar retail world will look like in 10-20 years is anyone's guess. The traditional retail sector is transforming before our eyes, with a big impact on retail and consumer goods manufacturers' supply chains in the end. The Wall Street Journal reports that through April 6, closings have been announced for 2,880 retail locations this year, including hundreds of locations being shut by national chains such as Payless ShoeSource and Radio Shack. Read

Industrial / High Tech Coolness ContinuesWe are over half-way through 2017 but my cup remains more than half full of cool. The Industrial and High Tech verticals remain the coolest of all the verticals. What continues to make Industrial and High Tech so cool is the diversity of the customers and their associated challenges. This group of customers spans the entire spectrum of manufacturing orientation and supply chain complexities.

QAD EAM Eliminates Maintenance Silos for Flexible Packaging Manufacturer

10

A large North American manufacturer of flexible packaging is using QAD Enterprise Asset Management to increase efficiency and effectiveness of their maintenance operations. Each of this manufacturer’s 20 plants in the U.S. and Canada has printing, tubing, bottoming and extrusion machines. This equipment can be as much as 40 years old and would cost millions of dollars to replace. Read more...

Industry 4.0 – Lots of Talk and Just a Little More Action

Industry 4.0 and its primary tenant, the Internet of Things (IoT), continue to be the focal point of much of the business and technical news for manufacturing. The transition from talk to actual action is starting to progress, albeit slowly, for some of QAD’s customers. Read more...

Catherine Wagner: IoT Connected Medical Devices Published in MD+DI

QAD’s Catherine Wagner, Life Sciences Market Research Analyst, recently wrote an article, “ Left to Their Own Devices: The Promise and Dangers of IoT-Connected Medical Devices,” which was published September 11 in MD+DI. Catherine discusses the pros and cons of medical devices being connected and controlled in the cloud. Though this technology is promising and may help reduce costs for doctors, hospitals and overall costs to insurance companies resulting in lower health care costs, it may also be dangerous for patients because regulatory agencies have not issued any official rules for medical device manufacturers, and there are risks for cybersecurity threats.

This is a thought provoking article. Take a minute to read it, and share it with your customers and friends.

COMPETITIVE BITS C-Bit: Oracle Announces the Hiring of 5,000 Cloud Professionals in the US

On the heels of Oracle announcing in July that it was hiring approximately 1000 new employees in EMEA to support the growth in cloud (as reported in a July C-Bit), on August 28th, it announced  that, in the USA, it would be hiring “more than five-thousand new engineers, consultants, sales and support people into its rapidly growing cloud business.” In 2017, Oracle has already hired more than 2,650 cloud sales professionals and 1,500 cloud developers.

Key takeaway: As mentioned in previous posts, Oracle is focusing heavily on their cloud business and QAD should expect them to pop up in more deals. This announcement serves as another proof point that Oracle continues to invest in the cloud.

C-Bit: SAP Announces New Co-Created Solution with IBM for the Consumer Goods Industry

SAP has teamed with IBM to provide a co-innovated solution for the consumer goods industry to help increase profitability and improve the consumer experience. Announced on August 24th, the solution is expected to use near real-time market-demand signals for better decision making. For example, a New York City sales operations manager for a beverage company may try to forecast sales during the New York Marathon at a store along the running route. Using this new solution, the manager could include traffic flow information and the impact of the weather forecast on demand. The result allows for improved demand forecast accuracy at a store level.

This is the first industry-focused solution resulting from the two companies’ digital transformation partnership announced last year. It is one of several industry-specific digital solutions currently under development.

15

Key takeaway: We should expect to see additional co-created solutions announced throughout the year. In partnering with IBM Global Services, SAP’s reputation for lengthy and costly implementations will very likely remain unchanged.

C-Bit: Infor Announces New Partnership to Grow Software User Adoption

Infor announced a strategic technology relationship with Ancile Solutions Inc., providing products that help companies improve software adoption.  Ancile uPerform will be available to Infor customers via the cloud based Infor User Adoption Platform (UAP). Ancile's Perform creates, manages and distributes software learning content to improve user adoption of new software and business processes. Currently, there are few details on how uPerform will integrate with Infor's solutions.

C-Bit: Oracle to Lay off 2500 in Hardware

Oracle laid-off 2500 employees, primarily from Solaris and Sparc, effectively marking the end of both the Unix operating system and RISC processor. Both were acquired as part of Sun Microsystems in 2010, and Oracle has struggled after the acquisition with associated revenues falling quarter after quarter. The move reflects the continued shift towards cloud for Oracle, as noted in this space last week.

C-Bit: Oracle Announces Fiscal Q1 2018 Results

On September 14, Oracle announced fiscal results for its Q1 2018. Overall revenues were up 7%. Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) revenues were up 62% to $1.1 billion. Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) plus Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) revenues were up 28% to $400 million. Total Cloud Revenues were up 51% to $1.5 billion.

Oracle’s CEO indicated, “ERP is our largest and most important cloud applications business. We now have about 5,000 Fusion ERP customers plus 12,000 NetSuite ERP customers in the Oracle Cloud.” Cloud has become so important to Oracle that the company has decided to only give top executives performance options if Oracle "significantly grows its cloud business," according to a September regulatory filing.

C-Bit: Infor Announces Q1 2018 Results

Infor announced on September 14 that total revenue for Q1 2018 was $766.9M, an increase of 9.2% compared to Q1 2017. Revenue growth was driven by higher SaaS revenues along with higher consulting and other fees revenues. Q1 2018 software license fees and subscription revenue was $203.8M, an increase of 22% from Q1 2017. SaaS revenues increased 37.4% and comprised over 60% of total license revenue in the quarter.

Key takeaway: Both companies continue to show solid cloud growth. With Oracle’s performance incentives, QAD should expect to see increased competition for cloud business. Though Oracle’s E-Business Suite and JDE have historically been QAD’s competitors, we may find increasing competition from Oracle Supply Chain Cloud, Oracle Manufacturing Cloud and Oracle NetSuite.

C-Bit: Oracle Introduces New Programs to Move Customers to Cloud

16

In a warm up to the upcoming Oracle Open World, Oracle Chairman and CTO Larry Ellison announces new programs designed to move customers to the cloud by lowering cost of ownership. Oracle believes these new programs will help address customers’ cloud adoption challenges by improving and simplifying the way they purchase and consume cloud services.

Available September 25, 2017, the new programs include ‘Bring Your Own License’ for PaaS (platform-as-a-service) which provides increased value through license mobility, and Universal Credits which gives customers flexibility when buying and consuming services for Oracle’s PaaS and IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-service).

Currently, customers can bring their on-premise licenses to Oracle IaaS. Oracle is now expanding the ‘Bring Your Own License’ offering by allowing customers to reuse their existing software licenses for Oracle PaaS (including Oracle Database, Oracle Middleware, Oracle Analytics and others).

Universal Credits is a consumption model for cloud services that allows customers to have one simple contract providing unlimited access to all current and future Oracle PaaS and IaaS services, spanning Oracle Cloud and Oracle Cloud at Customer.

Ellison stated the primary cost of running PaaS is labor and believes that human involvement in running databases is best avoided, citing the recent Equifax leak. To this end, Oracle also recently announced they’ll be offering a fully autonomous version of their database, which promises an impressive 99.995% up-time.

Key takeaway: As indicated in last week’s quarterly results announcement C-Bit, Oracle confirmed their priority and focus is growing the cloud business. According to their CEO, “ERP is our largest and most important cloud applications business.” Announcing these new programs shows Oracle is definitely focused on adding more cloud customers, which means QAD will continue to run up against Oracle in our ERP deals.

18

STAT-Diagnostica selected QAD Cloud ERP in December of last year and was our new Spanish partner's first deal. STAT-Diagnostica's CFO had previously worked at Cellnovo, another QAD Cloud ERP customer in the Life Sciences sector, but the deal was still competitive.

STAT-Diagnostica needed a strong life sciences focused ERP solution to support the final stages of their product approval process.

After great work by the QAD Cloud team our partner ITC STAT-Diagnostica have successfully gone live on QAD Cloud ERP.

Congratulations to the Team Involved!

Renolit

Vertical: Industrial

Project: Goes Live on QAD Enterprise Applications 2016 Across Seven Sites

Location: Across EMEA & the US

Customer since: 1993

The RENOLIT Group is an international leader in the manufacture of high-quality plastic films and related products for technical applications. This independent family-owned business, which has been setting benchmarks for quality and innovation for over 65 years, now employs a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees at more than 30 production sites and sales entities.

19

RENOLIT thermoplastic films provide furniture, building components and consumer electronics with a decorative surface finish, they seal roofs, underground structures and line swimming pools. The company also produces films and tubes for medical applications and recyclable composite panels incorporating natural fibres for the building sector and automotive industry.

RENOLIT have been a QAD user across a number of their divisions for some time. The group has a policy of remaining as current as possible on their core software applications.

This upgrade project saw seven sites across EMEA & the US migrate from their current QAD releases to QAD 2016 (the sites included The Netherlands, Spain, France, Belgium, Portugal, Italy as well as the US).

RENOLIT's reasoning for the upgrade was:

To take advantage of new functionality, especially Item attributes & Serialisation Reduce the number of customisations Maintain their policy of system updates to remain current

The project was challenging not only due to the widely dispersed sites but this was the first project with Renolit that used the new YAB tool. The project also included upgrades to the latest versions of EAM, WMS, Enhanced Controls, MSW/PSW, multiple internalisation packages as well as the core product.

After great work from the project team RENOLIT went live across all seven sites on time and on budget.

What's Next: RENOLIT will be looking to Go Live at another two new sites in China later this year, with more Chinese sites to follow in 2018. They will also start to deploy their QAD core model to another site in Spain shortly. Stay tuned!

Having upgraded to QAD 2016 earlier this year i2O were keen to deploy Channel Islands to further enhance their QAD offering. Their main focus was around making the system easier and more intuitive for their teams around the globe to use.

Channel Islands provides i2O an attractive, intuitive, device-independent user experience personalized for roles, tasks and individual users.

i2O Water successfully went live on Channel Islands on the 21st August 2017.

LF Beauty recently implemented QAD DSCP to replace their Infor demand planning solution and successfully went live on time and on budget. The next step in their QAD journey is the global upgrade of their sites from their current older QAD instances to the latest iteration of the QAD solution.

After the success of the DSCP project LF Beauty were keen to re-use QAD's methodical approach to large scale projects and a key part of this process is the pre-upgrade planning.

The QAD team positioned an Upgrade QScan as the first step in developing a overall plan for the migration. Also due to the large number of changes from their current eB solution to 2017 EE we proposed developing a Business Process Workbook for both the UK site and Germany, the second site in the project (which currently does not run QAD).

After some discussions LF beauty have recognised the value of the pre-work and we received the final sign off for the three services engagements earlier this month.

What's Next: Following the successful completion of the pre-upgrade work the plan is for LF Beauty UK to begin their migration to 2017 EE in February next year. This will be followed by the deployment of the QAD core model developed in the UK to their recently acquired German facility. Stay tuned!

Imperial Brands

Vertical: F & B

Project: Cloud Conversion

Location: Bristol, UK

22

Customer since: 1993

Imperial Brands Plc is the parent company of Imperial Tobacco. Imperial Tobacco Group (ITG) is a leading international tobacco company, which manufactures, markets and sells a comprehensive range of cigarettes, tobaccos, rolling papers, filter tubes and cigars.

The group has 25+ factories worldwide and sells brands such as Davidoff, Gauloises Blond, West, JSP, Fortuna, Gitanes, Drum, Rizla and Golden Virginia across the globe. ITG employs just under 34,000 people across their global operations and turned over £27.63 billion in 2016.

Due to declining tobacco revenue there is a strong focus within Imperial Brands on operational efficiencies and an increased focus on their core business. A key part of this strategy is the outsourcing of non-value add activities. QAD Cloud ERP supports this strategy and also provides the ability to enhance the level of support to the business provided by their mission critical core business solution.

Over the years the QAD team has discussed the capabilities of QAD Cloud with ITG and was usually met with the 'too expensive, we can do it all' response from the customer.

However, the appointment of a new CIO in January 2017 allowed us to challenge the status quo and a number of erroneous assumptions held as facts by the customer. He allowed us to perform a so-called 'Open Book Exercise' with ITG IT and gave us the possibility to perform a 'Cliff Walk' with him.

As a result of the incredible hard work by the team ITG have opted to migrate their 12 current QAD instances (with almost 3000 users) to the Cloud.

What's Next: The CIO wants to view QAD as a Trusted Adviser and his plan is to give QAD a more prominent role in their IS activities in order to better support their 'rapidly changing & increasingly demanding' business.

THE PROJECT: Reydel is currently implementing QAD EA based on a global core model at their different plants in Europe. Medina is the last of the last to be implemented in Spain.

Reydel core model is built on QAD Enterprise Application 2007 SE including several modules like EDI Ecommerce, Qxtend, Consignmnt Proplus, etc. By implementing QAD, Reydel will replace current legacy ERP.

This will help Reydel achieve the following objectives:

Reduce overall operation costs. Improve business operations through the introduction of Reydel's standard processes. Increase services levels as a result of standardized applications and streamlined processes.  Improve user experience and increase training capability through the integrated process modeler.

As a next step, EE upgrade is definitively the target. By delivering our Customer Engagement process, we assist them and contribute to the elaboration of a consistent new core model on EE.

Johnson Controls

THE COMPANY: Johnson Controls is a global diversified technology and multi industrial leader serving a wide range of customers in more than 150 countries. They create intelligent buildings, efficient energy solutions, integrated infrastructure and next generation transportation systems that work seamlessly together to deliver on the promise of smart cities and communities. At its core, that promise is about delivering innovation that make people’s lives – and the world – better.

THE STORY: JCI was struggling with their upgrade to QAD EE. They were using a non-certified partner and were 2X over the original budget with no go live in sight. The VP of IT for Power Solutions came to QAD for help.

After much discussion, Robin Riordan came up with a great idea! QAD Proposed a "Rescue Plan," a program by

which QAD would take over the project and guide the project to a successful Go-Live by early 2018. In May at Explore, the JCI VP met with Eugenio and the whole team to discuss the details. The VP presented the "Rescue Plan" to the JCI board and gained approval.

Guided by Steve Sawicki, Fabricio Oliveira, Luis Garcia and Rafa Aidar who led the development of the plan, prepared the SOW and worked with JCI in Brazil to develop an agreed Go-Live date of April 2018. Thiago Queiros is leading the project and has already received praise from JCI. We just received the PO for services, expenses and taxes.

AFGlobal

Company: AFGlobal provides products and services to the oil and gas, general industrial, aerospace and power generation industries, offering a broad range of both highly-engineered and general forged products, as well as complementary aftermarket services. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, they provide products and services through more than 20 facilities worldwide for manufacturing, engineering and technology needs.

The deal: Key Configurator Deal!

The competition:  Stay with what they purchased 2 years ago.                                                                                                Why we won:  AFGlobal has very specific requirements for their customers. AFGlobal purchased a configurator tool 2 years ago and it didn’t meet their needs. They spent a lot of money trying to get it work. BEST Theratroics did a “live” demo in their environment and answered all their questions on functionality. Brian Ambercrombie did an excellent job on the QAD demo. Due to Brain, Steve and BEST, Argon had confidence in Configurator and moved forward with the purchase.

What’s Next:  As soon as Configurator has been implemented, AFGlobal will be purchasing CSS (Customer Self Service) to complete their customer experience.
