He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” Luke 10:37

My dear Children, Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

On one occasion, a religious leader asks Jesus to tell him what it means to love one’s neighbor. In reply, Jesus tells this famous parable of the Good Samaritan who helped the man attacked by the robbers, to teach who is our neighbor and about the true nature of love and mercy.

Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy. Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth, reaching its culmination in Him. In the fullness of time, when everything had been arranged according to His plan of salvation, He sent His only Son into the world, to reveal His love for us in a definitive way. Jesus of Nazareth, by His words, His actions, and His entire person reveals the mercy of God.

Mercy is a wellspring of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it. It is the word reveals the very mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. The ultimate and supreme act by which God comes to meet us. Mercy is the bond that connects God and man, opening our hearts to the hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness.

The story of the Good Samaritan is about compassion and mercy. As we travel through life’s journey, we meet all kinds of people, many in need of our help. Let us ask God to open our hearts to show tender love, compassion and mercy for the needful even though they are strangers to us. God’s blessings upon you!
