Dear Mapleview Families,
It is hard to believe we only
have one month of school
left. This year, like most, has
flown by. Meet the teacher
day seems like it was just yes-
terday.
This week is Staff Appreciation
Week. I hope you get a
chance to say thank you to the
adults that mean so much to
your children at Mapleview. I
have found this staff to be very
professional and caring, as well
as, very skillful. I am very
proud to say I am part of the
Mapleview staff.
The end of the year is full of
celebration and reflec-
tion. Over the next week or
so, the students will take their
final Measure of Academic
Progress (MAP) tests in read-
ing and math. We use these
test to measure growth from
the beginning of the year to
the end. We look forward to
seeing each student’s progress
and sharing it with the stu-
dents. The results are also
mailed to parents.
To celebrate the end of the
school year and transition to
next year, we have a few
things in the works. On June
7th, the entire school will have
their final behavioral incentive
celebration. Specifics will be
announced the week be-
fore. June 6th we will have
our 6th Grade Picnic. A time
for sixth graders and their
teachers to have some fun
together before the year
ends. Finally, during the after-
noon of June 8th, we will have
different activities planned for
all of our students to cele-
brate the end of the
year. We will also have a
brief all school assembly to
wrap up the year, send the
sixth graders on and say good-
bye to the 5th graders for the
summer. More details to
come as we got closer to the
last week.
Speaking of those sixth grad-
ers and their families, I want
to extend a special thank
you. The Mapleview staff will
miss them and the gifts they
shared with us during their
two years. We know that
they will be very successful in
the near future at JRG and
beyond that. They might
transform into Gators, but
they will always be Bobcats to
us!
As I begin to reflect on this
school year, I believe it has
been very successful. While
each year has it’s challenges,
the positive far outweigh
them. We have great kids,
parents, and staff. For that, I
am very thankful.
Even though we are thinking
of the end of the year activi-
ties, we still have several
weeks of school and time to
continue to grow and im-
prove. We appreciate your
efforts to support your child
and the school all year
round! As always, if you have
any questions or concerns, do
not hesitate to contact me.
Yours in education,
Mr. Schultz

Class Placement 2017-2018 School
M A P L E V I E W I N T E R M E D I A T E
As this school year comes to a close, students’ and parents’ thoughts
turn to the summer and to the upcoming school year. One thought
students wonder about is their classroom assignment for the next
year.
We, as staff members, will continue our efforts to maximize the
learning potential of each student by balancing student/teacher ratios,
maintaining gender balance, grouping students heterogeneously, and
avoiding potential student conflicts as we assign students to classes.
Parents will be notified by mail of their child’s classroom assignment
by the first week of August.
We ask that you do not request a specific teacher. After notification
concerning your child’s teacher for 2017-2018, a procedure will be
outlined for you to request a change in placement.
We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation so
we can make classroom assignments with the most current enroll-
ment numbers possible before the start of the school year.
Safety
As the weather turns nicer and more students begin to walk
and ride bikes to school, remember to take extra precaution
in school zones. If your child rides a bike to school, please
make sure they lock up the bike to keep it from getting stolen.

Notes from the Health Office
M A P L E V I
Sunscreen Application
Just a reminder that it is the district’s guidelines that we do not pro-
vide, or allow students to share or use another person’s, sunscreen,
lip balm, lotion, etc. due to the potential for allergic reaction to the
active ingredients in these products. We encourage parents to apply
sunscreen, especially on field trip days, at home prior to sending their
child to school. If sunscreen needs to be reapplied, each student should
have their own.
Attention Parents of Children entering
6th Grade in 2017-2018
If your child will be entering sixth grade next school year, he/she
needs to be up-to-date on the vaccinations for Tdap and Varicella. If
our records show that your child needs to have further immuniza-
tions to comply with Wisconsin Law, you would have received a let-
ter from the school. Please bring this information to your child's
next doctor's appointment.
Always remember to notify the school office of all vaccines that your
child has had. We are required to supply this information to the
state each year. Call Valerie Schroeder at 788-7910 with all new
vaccine information
Health Forms
If your child is diagnosed with asthma, diabetes, seizures, bee stings or
food allergies over the summer, you will find the proper Health forms for
these issues online at www.kimberly.k12.wi.us. They all require a Doc-
tor’s signature. Also available on the website is a form, Request For Giving
Medication At School, which you can print at your convenience.
School Attendance
P A G E 5
Please call the school office at
788-7910 as early as possible
and provide us with the stu-
dent’s name, homeroom teach-
er, and reason for absence. You
may leave a message at any time
outside our normal office hours
(7:00 AM—3:15 PM). All attend-
ance must be communicated to
the main office, and not to
teachers or other staff. Students
may be excused by a parent or
guardian for up to 10 days due
to illness, appointments, or oth-
er family circumstances. After
that, absences will be consid-
ered unexcused unless medically
excused. Appointments (doctor,
dentist, orthodontist, etc.) will
be marked in Infinite Campus as
E, indicating a parent excused
absence. If a note from the ap-
pointment is provided to the
office upon returning to school,
the attendance code will be up-
dated to M, indicating that the
absence was for an excused ap-
pointment, and is no longer in-
cluded in the 10-day limit. In
short, if your student is sick and
goes to the doctor for evalua-
tion, or attends an appointment
of any sort, please request a
note indicating their presence
that day and provide the note to
the Main Office.
Please be aware that emergency
medications that are provided
for use during the school day
will not be accessible after
school hours. Parents and stu-
dents plan ahead to have emer-
gency medication available dur-
ing after school activities such as
clubs and sports. If an emergen-
cy arises and a student does not
have their emergency medica-
tion available, 911 will be called.
A note from Mr. Calmes:
If anyone has items that they would like to donate for use in his art classes, please
bring them into the office. If you are not sure if I will use particular items, please
contact me. I am always looking for people to donate items from home or work.
Thank you!

Congratulations to KASD Music Programs The Kimberly Area School
District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Ed-
ucation designation of the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding
commitment to music education. KASD is one of 4% of districts
across the nation receiving the prestigious award in 2017. The Best
Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts
that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide mu-
sic access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Com-
munities designation, KASD answered detailed questions about fund-
ing, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction
time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-
making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and
reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
In an effort to recognize students who are going above and beyond what is expected of
them at Mapleview Intermediate, “Faces in the Crowd” has been established. Once a month
students are nominated by their classroom or specials teachers and one student will be
chosen from each class throughout the school year.
May’s “Faces in the Crowd” are: Fiona Bosetski, nominated by Mr. Appleton; Mae McCarty,
nominated by Mrs. Carpenter; Dominik Dempsey nominated by Mr. Fitzgerald; and Brettyn
Hesler , nominated by Mr. Schultz.
Congratulations to each of you for being a positive role model at

“POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS” May
Our school year has gone fast, and we are into May already! It is very important that we stress positive behavior with our students in the days ahead. Throughout the school year, we have rewarded the students who have followed the expectations of how to be kind, respectful and responsible. The students should be practicing the behaviors they have learned here at school with you at home. By being consistent with expectations at school as well as at home the students will come back in September ready to be a positive member of their school (whether it is here at Mapleview or J.RG.). Remember that you are your student's first and most important role model. Congratulations to all of those students for following the Bobcat expectations throughout the month of April…Keep up the great work in May!

April 19, 2017 Josh Heisler Mapleview Intermediate 125 E Kimberly Ave Kimberly, WI 54136 Dear Josh Heisler: On behalf of the American Heart Association and the millions of Americans we serve, thank you very much for your school's donation of *$3,734.55. Families and schools are critical links in providing the foundation for cardiovascular wellness in our country. By holding this event at your school each year, you raise awareness about heart-healthy living. And you help us fund more life-saving scientific research and critically needed education efforts. Thank you. Almost every family in America is touched by heart disease or stroke, and your school's contribu-tion will significantly impact our fight against these devastating illnesses. We hope that you, your faculty and your students found this lifesaving effort rewarding and enjoy-able. You are touching so many lives — and life is why we exist as an organization. Your help and support are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to partnering again with you next year! Warm regards, Nancy Brown Chief Executive Officer, American Heart Association
Kendra Ryan When Kendra was 15 months old she got sick with a high fever. The lymph nodes in her neck were swollen so severely that she could not turn her head from side to side. Kendra was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease, a serious illness characterized by inflammation of blood vessels throughout the body that primarily affects young chil-dren and infants. It is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. Without treatment, about 25% of children develop heart disease involving the coronary arteries. Luckily Kendra was treated early and had no significant damage to her heart.
A Thank You From the American Heart Association
