6. Troubleshooting

6.1. GeneralThis chapter describes all the errors that may occur and how to dealwith them. If the error cannot be dealt with, or if there are othererrors, contact your nearest retailer. See Contact Information at thestart of the manual.

6.1.1. The machine will not start

• Check if the emergency stop switch on the control panel ispressed. Reset the switch by turning it 45°.

• Check if the power connection is correct. Check that thereis full voltage on the motor’s phase/phases. If the phase/phases do not have full voltage, the converter is faulty:

- Reset the electronics by turning the Grindingknob to “Reset”. If this does not help, carryout a reset procedure as follows Resetting thefrequency converter on page 27.

- Check the error code in the converter, see theerror code table in chapter Electronic errorcodes on page 25.

• Check the fuses and contactors in the control cabinet.

6.1.2. The machine vibrates or wears the tool unevenly

• Recondition the grinding holder by changing the sleeve(112332 on page 37).

• Check that the chassis is straight.

• Check that there is movement between the chassis andgrinding head. If necessary, loosen one of the two pins(310374 on page 29) in order to increase the movementbetween the chassis and grinding head.

6.1.3. The machine is grinding unevenly

• Recondition the grinding holder, see under The machinevibrates or wears the tool unevenly on page 23 above.

• Check that there is movement between the chassis andgrinding head. If necessary, loosen one of the two pins(310374 on page 29) in order to increase the movementbetween the chassis and grinding head.

6.1.4. The machine stops immediately after starting

• The overload indicator lights up because the speed of thegrinding discs is too high. Reduce the speed and try again.

• Check the error code in the display on the frequencyconverter, see Electronic error codes on page 25.

6.1.5. The fuses trip frequently

• The load is too high on the distribution box to which themachine is connected. Replace the socket or reduce thespeed of the machine.

• Check the tools. Ensure that the correct tools are used, thatthey are in working order and that they are correctly fitted.

6.1.6. The machine cannot cope

• Heavy load. Press the handle down slightly so that thegrinding head eases slightly away from the surface beingground.

• Sticky coating on the surface being ground. Run half of themachine on the surface to be cleaned and half on the cleansurface. This removes any residue from the tools.

• Check the tools. Ensure that the correct tools are used, thatthey are in working order and that they are correctly fitted.

• Voltage drop. Check that the cable area meets HTC’srecommendations.

Tip!

Check the minimum recommended cable area before using anextension cord. You will find the recommended cable area underTechnical data on page 38.

HTC 420 VS Electronic error codes

2.0 25

7. Electronic error codes

7.1. GeneralA common fault on grinders is that the motor is overloaded. Thereare three levels of overloading.

OCF = Rapidly rising current

OHF = Rapidly rising current

OLF = Overload motor

All the error codes that may occur in the frequency converter in thecontrol cabinet are listed below.

Table 7-1:Electronic error codesError code Cause Action

OCF OCF = Rapidly rising currentDue to a high short-term load that is2.5 times the nominal current over acertain period. This usually occursif you run into something or if eitherthe grinding discs or somethingelse inside the machine locks up.May also occur if the motor shortcircuits.

Check mechanical inertia, spin thegrinding discs. Reset the converterif the machine is sluggish. Removethe plug for the motor and start theconverter to see if the fault remains.See also the point below. ContactHTC Service Centre if the faultremains.

OHF OHF = Rapidly rising currentA less severe version of the samefault above. Due to a high short-term load that is 2 times thenominal current over a certainperiod. Usually occurs as a resultof high power consumption over aprolonged period. May also occur athigh temperatures (+ 50° C).

As the fault is related to the abovefault, the action indicated thereshould be carried out. If the surfacebeing worked on is very tough, thismay cause this fault. If the fault istemperature-related, the machinemust be left to cool down beforeit can be started again. Anothersolution is to reduce the speed of thegrinding discs to half speed, as themachine will then use less power.

InF / EEF InF / EEF = Internal faultFault in the frequency converter.

Contact HTC Service Centre.

SCF SCF = Short circuit in the motorDue to a short circuit in the motor orthe motor cable. May also be due toan earth fault.

Check the wiring and, if necessary,the motor isolation. Test byloosening the motor cable andstarting the frequency converter tosee if the error code appears. If thisoccurs, the fault is in the frequencyconverter, otherwise the cable ormotor is broken.

Page 34: MANUAL - Tyrolit · HTC Sweden AB Box 69 SE-614 22 Söderköping - Sweden Tel: +46 (0) 121-294 00 Fax: +46 (0) 121-152 12 You can find addresses for our retailers and service partners

Error code Cause ActiontnF tnF = Autotuning fault

May arise if the motor has beenreplaced by the wrong motor, whichis outside the norm values for theconverter. May also arise if themotor is broken.

Check the motor. Replace the motorwith an original motor.

OLF OLF = Overload motorOccurs when the motor isoverloaded for a prolonged period.The motor protection in theconverter trips in order to protectthe motor.

Switch off the machine. The motorprotection must cool.Wait 8 minutes before the machineis restarted.

OSF OSF = Over-voltageMains voltage too high ordisturbance in the mains supply.May occur if large motors/machinesare switched on or off in thevicinity. May be due to non-CEmarked equipment.

Measure the supply voltage. Changethe socket. The max. permittedsupply voltage is 240V + 10%.

USF USF = Under-voltageVoltage too low due to large numberof consumers using the network.Temporary drop in voltage. Longand/or weak cables may also causethis fault.

Replace the socket or remove someof the consumers from the network(welding, etc. causes such faults).

ObF ObF = Operating load when stoppedArises if the grinding discs arerunning when the machine is to beswitched off.

Check the power supply to themachine, i.e. the fuses and cable. Ifthe machine still does not functionafter the power supply has beenchecked, the fault may be due to afault on the contactor in the machineor in the control panel. In this case,contact HTC Service Centre.

PHF PHF = Mains supply phase breakPHF flashes in the display for a fewseconds before it goes out. Occurs ifsomeone has pulled out the cord.

Check the power supply to themachine, i.e. the fuses and cable. Ifthe machine still does not functionafter the power supply has beenchecked, the fault may be due to afault on the contactor in the machineor in the control panel. In this case,contact HTC Service Centre.
