1. Introduction
The document served as a manual instruction for Niagara College Graduate Student Mapping
web application to setup and update purposes. The manual provides all the basic steps of
creating and modifying project data.
2. Geodatabase creation
Create a new or add data to existing geodatabase file (Figure 1). New file should be created in
CSV format. (the detail description of the format can be founded here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values).

2.1. Geodatabase
Minimal Geodatabase configuration should include the following students’ data:
last and first names;
year of graduation;
current position;
employer name;
employer address (street number, street name, city, country and postal code
should be separated with comma)
2.2. Data Collection
Based on the student data (First Name, Family Name, Year of Graduation, Graduation
Program) next data should be collected from different public reliable resources (e.g.

After authorization click on the My Content button. From the My Content list, choose
needed map to modify.
In the table of contents, all imported layers can be observed (Figure 4).
Current Table of Contents includes the following layers:
2008-2013 Niagara College EMA Graduate Students;
1999-2012 Niagara College GM GIS Graduate Students;
City Level Cluster (data regarding cities where students work);
Country Level Cluster data regarding countries where students work);
Country Boundaries

Pop-up properties can be set by clicking on “Configure Pop- Up” button
Figure 6 Pop-up Properties
All pop-up properties should be set as follow by “Configure Attributes” menu( Figure 7) :

Symbols for current layer can be set in layer’s properties and clicking on “Change Symbols”
menu (Figure 8)
Figure 8 Symbols Change
Range of symbols visibility can be set by “Set Visibility Range” (Figure 9) . This makes symbols
to appear depending on the map scale. Symbols sizes for project are:
- Student Symbol (45 px)
- City Level Symbol (50 px )
- Country Level Symbol (90 px)

Figure 9 Set Visibility Range
Visibility Ranges for project are :
Student Symbols (In closer than:1:18,489,298, Out farther than - )
City Level Symbols (In closer than: 1:36,978,596, Out farther than: 1:36,978,596)
Country Level Symbols (In closer than: - Out farther than: 1:50,000,000 (Continent))
To add a new data, click on “Add” button and choose “Add Layer from File” (Figure 10.)

In the “Add Layer from File” wizard choose a root to the CSV format of geodatabase file that
was prepared in previous steps. To georeference the students location choose “World” address
property (Figure 11).
