    Back to School Tips

    1. Remind your child that there are probably a lot of students who are uneasy about the first day of school. Teachers know that students are anxious and will make an extra effort to make sure everyone feels as comfortable as possible.

    2. Point out the positive aspects of starting school: It will be fun! They'll see old friends and meet new ones. Refresh the positive memories about previous years, when they may have returned home after the first day with high spirits because they had a good time.

    3. Find another child in the neighborhood with whom your

youngster can walk to school or ride on the bus. 4. If you feel it is appropriate, drive your child (or walk with

them) to school and pick them up on the first day.

    Happy Fathers Day!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Ivy

League fathers a very special Fathers Day. We hope for you to join your child in his/her classroom for Donuts with Dad.

Transitions Many of our childrens will be moving up from their classrooms. While most of them will move with their classmates the

transition can be a battle of pleading, crying, clinging and

    aggression.

    Helpful Hints to saying goodbye:

Always tell your child when you leave. Sneaking out without

saying goodbye can make future separation worse. Have the

same preparing for school routine each day. Establish a parting ritual handshake, saying, special hug, or short poem each day. Do it whenever you leave. Leave at the end of your

ritual. Do not linger in the room or stand at the door. Have a

calm, and happy attitude. Do not share any of your fears, anxiety

or sadness with your child. Be sure to pick up your child on

time. This develops trust in your child that you will be reunited

as you promised. Try rehearsing goodbyes at home. Let the

child play both role of parent and the child being left behind. Be

patient. Your child will learn to separate successfully from you

and to enjoy his time at school.
