INSTRUCTION: HOW TO SLICE A MANGO WITH A KNIFE
These steps are intended to help you in slicing a mango into small cubes using a kitchen
knife and a fork. The mango cubes can be used along with other fruits in a fruit salad, used
to make mango shake or served on its own.
Requirements The following items are required:
1 fully ripe mango
A jug of clean water
1 sharp kitchen knife
1 green (colour coded) chopping board or plate
Procedure Follow this procedure to slice the mango:
1. Make sure the mango is fully ripe by checking its colour. A fully ripe mango is
characterized by its vibrant yellow colour. Press the mango lightly from the sides
using your fingers to check if it is soft. A ripe mango also has a strong scent near its
notch.
2. Green coloured chopping boards are specified for cutting fruits and salads on. Place
such a board underneath the mango, or simply use a plate.
3. Wash the mango using a jug of clean water without peeling its skin.
4. The mango consists of a flat seed along its longer axis having a thickness of about an
inch. Make two straight and parallel cuts along the sides of the seed.
5. Make light cross-hatched cuts on the faces of the two cheeks of the mango obtained.
6. Using both of your hands, invert the cheeks so that the cross-hatched cuts fan out
from the skin.
7. Cut along the skin of the mango to separate the mango cubes.
8. Peel off the skin from the middle section containing the seed and cut along the
periphery of the seed to remove the remaining part of mango.
9. Serve the mango cubes on a plate with a fork.
