One of the 2018-2019 focuses for the Shared Governance Committee is “practical and tactical.” We want to reach and equip our VUMC leaders with information about Shared Governance. We love the definition of Shared Governance: a dynamic staff-leader partnership that promotes collaboration, shared decision-making and accountability for improving quality of care, safety and enhancing life at work.

Over the last year, the Shared Governance Committee developed a new curriculum to enhance the knowledge and skills of managers regarding Shared Governance. The goal of the lunch and learn series is to empower leaders with a better understanding of shared governance and equip them by sharing VUMC Shared Governance best practices.

The Manager Lunch and Learn is structured to incorporate didactic teaching and panel discussion to engage in dialogue about where the rubber meets the road in Unit and Clinic Boards. We discuss the Shared Governance history at VUMC, structure, and ways to leverage Unit Board/ Clinic Board to achieve results. We have now hosted one lunch and learn in April and another in July. Based on feedback, managers and other leaders found this to be helpful! We had about 20 leaders in attendance for each session.

Whether you are re-launching a Unit or Clinic Board or want more Shared Governance tools in your toolbox, the Manager Lunch and Learn is a great place to have lunch while refreshing your Shared Governance knowledge. Look in LMS for future offerings!
