Paint the Town Orange | July 18, 2015
"On the cloudy morning of Saturday, July 18th, Foun-
tain Valley KIWIN'S arrived between Fountain Valley City Hall and the Po-
lice Department at 9:00 A.M. The city of Fountain Valley was honored in
being the host town of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. Members
were asked to spread Fountain Valley pride throughout the city to wel-
come the athletes who will be participating in the Special Olympics. To do
so, members traveled in small groups to tie orange ribbons around trees
across the city. Fountain Valley KIWIN'S stayed near City Hall with Fountain
Valley Key Club and Los Amigos KIWN'S and decorated the trees within
this area in order to not stray too far from the adults who were in charge.
Members showed off how great they were at tying ribbons, and it be-
came a race to see who could tie the most. They also helped each other
tie the ribbons, making sure each one was as beautiful as the next. As
time went by, the sun grew brighter and all of the work was completed.
Once all the trees had their very own orange ribbon, members left feeling
satisfied of their work. The event ended around 10:00 A.M."

Larry Lam has constantly gone to KIWIN'S events and with his
bright, hospitable personality, he helps connect the KIWIN'S board
with the members! He never fails to show up with a quirky com-
ment or a dorky smile that lightens up any mood. His hard working
and caring nature is captured when he is at KIWIN'S events,
whether it be picking up trash at a beach clean up or to cheer during marathons. Larry, de-
spite not being on the current board at LQ, continues to attend events as if he was a board
member. Through personal experience, being turned down from a club's board may devas-
tate an individual, however, Larry does not allow this to keep the fiery passion for KIWIN'S from
burning. He continues to showcase the leadership traits that he has developed over the past
year for the good of the club and KIWIN'S as a whole.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY
Fountain Valley definitely deserves to be Club of the Month for Au-
gust! They had the most service events and the most hours for august
with a total of 15 events and 601 hours. Keep up the great work Baro-
natees!
THOMPSON? MORE LIKE THOMPSAMAZING!
Well where do I even begin with Thomspon. He's someone that
puts 110% in everything he does. Academics, family, KIWIN'S—he'll
always try his best to be the best son, friend, and board member.
He's the type to approach a lonely member and happily intro-
duce himself. Not because he's obligated because he's a board member, but because he
genuinely wants to meet the person. He's the type to always follow instructed rules and the
only times he's bent them was because he felt as if the instructions were unfair. For example,
at concerts in the park, I had the privilege to work with Thompson at parking duty. We
were specifically told NO ONE gets inside the parking lot UNLESS they are on the list of city
council and sponsors. Although it was quite unfair, we had to follow it. Many angry cars
passed by and A LOT of handicap cars as well. One handicapped car stopped by and
asked if they could park. It was a family van and they searched everywhere for a spot. So
Thomspon asked for our permission and let them in. WHAT A GRAND GUY AM I RIGHT? SO
CONSIDERATE AND SWEET IMMA CRY BRB. Another incident occurred on the same day.
Members from Los Amigos were working on parking duty as well, however their instructions
were to NOT let anyone in this parking lot. It was a hot day and I completely understand
members would prefer to be under the shade and so they did. These members went under
the shade far away from their job post. Suddenly, a car stopped by removed all the cones
and car after car kept entering the parking lot. When Thomspon saw this happening he was
confused, angry, and most of all disappointed. He charged over to those members and
told them to do their job correctly and so they did. After that, I told him "ITS OKAY TOM IT'S
OKAY" and he replies "No it's not, they are representing Los Amigos KIWIN'S this is not okay."
And right then and there my heart broke into a million tiny pieces BECAUSE THAT WAS SUCH
A CUTE REPLY. This clearly shows how great of leader Thompson is and how much potential
he has in the near future. Not only is Thompson an amazing leader, he's extremely friendly
and ALWAYS offers EVERYONE his last piece of fries, chips, or sip of water. Our KIWIN'S motto
is "OHANA means family and family means no one gets left behind" truthfully, I haven't seen
many people live up to this motto but after volunteering with Thompson, my thoughts have
changed. And just like every person in Jet, he's got that classic, spunky, spirited manatee
vibe! I mean he is spirit chair of Los Amigos after all! wink emoticon He's hard working, friend-
ly, passionate, spirited, and hilarious. If these aren't the qualities a board member should
have THEN....WHAT IS?
