This sector reported an average annual wage of $81,855 in 2015, which is 85.6 percent higher than the average of $44,094 for statewide employment. In comparison to other states in the Midwest, only North Dakota has a lower average annual wage: $81,429. Iowans in this sector make 29.9 percent less than the national average of $116,737. Employment in this sector dipped during the recession years of 2009 and 2010; however, employment gains since that time have been quite robust. The sector has added 6,433 jobs since its low point in 2010, equating to a growth rate of 50.4 percent. However, some of this growth may not imply improvement in Iowa’s economy, as earlier this decade, Iowa Workforce made efforts to improve reporting and reclassified some managing establishments that had been incorrectly included with the industry of the company they manage. The sector is balanced between men and women. In 2015, women held 50.8 percent of all positions in this sector.
