Founded on the 15th February 1949


A Society whose aim is to promote the activities of the Maltese people in every field of Culture.

The first meeting of this society was held on the 2nd January 1949.

The Inaugural concert was held on the 15th February 1949.

At the time of its foundation the Malta Cultural Institute received help from various sources including several Governments all over the world.

Throughout the years the Malta Cultural Institute has always been patronised by a great number of distinguished persons.

Within a year the Organising Committee decided to buy a brand new Bluthner piano.


By 1951 various committees were set up.

Conducted tours were organised, plays staged, painting exhibitions held and several members undertook studies.

The development of local musical talent has always been one of the principal activities of the Malta Cultural Institute.


From the inaugural concert up to the year 1987 Maestro Carmelo Pace was the Musical Advisor and Organiser of the

Malta Cultural Institute Concerts.

Miss Georgette Caffari, considered to be one of the pillars of the Malta Cultural Institute, performed the duties of Honorary Secretary from the Institute’s foundation up to her resignation in the year 2004.


Throughout the years the Malta Cultural Institute has

provided a platform for promising musicians.

From 1987 up to the year 2004 Chevalier Vincent Ciancio was the Honorary Director of the

Malta Cultural Institute.

Between the years 1987 – 1991 the concerts were organised by Mrs. Helen De Gabriele & Dr. Marcel De Gabriele.

In 1992 Marie -Therese Vassallo became Honorary Concert Organiser.

Since the year 1992 various foreign artists have performed for the

Malta Cultural Institute.

Today the Malta Cultural Institute Committee is composed of:

Ms. Marie-Therese Vassallo – Director & Concert Org.

Mr. Geoffrey Axiak – Secretary

Mr. Charles Axiak – Treasurer

Ms. Vanessa Magro – PRO & Legal Advisor

Ms. Mary Jane Bellia – Dance Advisor

Mr. Ray Mamo – Dance & Theatrical Advisor


Today the policy of the Malta Cultural Institute is to include all forms of

Culture and the Visual Arts.

The Malta Cultural Institute is well-known in foreign circles.

The Malta Cultural Institute is a non-profit making organisation where everybody works on a voluntary basis.


An unbroken record of 56 years of activities and concerts.

The Malta Cultural Institute concerts take place every first Monday of each month from October – June.


“Monday Ovations”


A monthly Bulletin is mailed to our Members and Friends all over the Island.

Over 350 copies of this Bulletin are mailed on a monthly basis.
